Her arms just look way too thin, the article is not the greatest photos but a quick google makes her look even thinner.

People seem to be saying that posters shouldn't say anything because they don't actually care about this woman.

Well I don't care about her personally, as I don't know her or admire her etc. However, I care very much that someone in that state is doing X Factor where what the hosts look like and wear is a huge part of it. Also it is targeted at a young audience. So yes I care.

mellowheart · 31/08/2015 12:44

I can't bloody stand her, untalented overpaid violent thug.

Nothavingfunrightnow · 31/08/2015 12:45

Mellowheart, that is exactly how I feel, though you worded it far more eloquently than I could have!

I'm astonished how many people think that is a healthy, attractive look. She is gaunt, and an educated guess would put her BMI at no more than 16 and well into anorexic territory.

While how she looks is up to her, employing a skeletally thin woman in a position where she functions as a role model to young girls and women is hugely irresponsible on the part of the programme's producers.

TRexingInAsda · 31/08/2015 13:29

Has anyone mentioned how much of Nick Grimshaw is cheekbones and teeth? Oh no, of course not, because he's a man so he can be slim without fear of judgement about his 'health', appearance, influence, etc. Carry on...

JanetBlyton · 31/08/2015 13:32

I think she looks fine. I've seen anorexics and she is not in that territory. the fact more people in the Uk are over weight than not though is skewing how people see things. Women of 8 stone are being called underweight when for their height they often aren't.

mellowheart · 31/08/2015 14:03

Trex whatever the reasons it's always the women who get the attention on these shows and to be fair that's the way they like it, they put massive amounts of time and energy into their appearances on the X factor, and let's face it it's Cheryl Fernandez appearance and looks rather than any talent that's got her where she is today. The same goes for lots of other female singers who, because they lack any real talent, resort to attention grabbing sexual performances. Nick Grimshaw probably didn't get to where he is in the same way therefore it's not right to compare.
If you have huge success and earn a lot of money mainly because of the way you look then they can't expect anything less.

Mistigri · 31/08/2015 14:17

This thread isn't about Nick Grimshaw though is it? And while eating disorders are becoming more common among men, when it comes to the pursuit of excessive thinness there is far more pressure on girls and young women than on men.

DriverSurpriseMe · 31/08/2015 14:19

I think she looks fine. I've seen anorexics and she is not in that territory

Just because someone doesn't look "anorexic" doesn't mean they are a) fine, b) not severely underweight and c) not in possession of an eating disorder.

Depends how low you set the bar, I guess.

bigbuttons · 31/08/2015 14:28

She doesn't look fine though and it has nothing to do with the new norm of being used to fatter people. I am very slim now and I was anorexic as a teenager. She doesn't look fine to me.

PollysHoliday · 31/08/2015 14:46

When I compare these pictures of someone suffering with anorexia to Cheryl I can see that she is not as extremely thin as the poor unknown woman. She is not a big step away from being extremely thin though. Her back and ribs are similar to the other woman's.

Cheryl is not just slim at the moment she is thin. I agree that many people are too heavy at the moment but arguing that Cheryl's present figure (as opposed to her healthy, slim figure of ten years ago) is 'normal' is wrong.
It's not even 'normal' for her.

Cheryl is held up as an aspirational figure to us. She has wealth, beauty, a fabulous lifestyle, beautiful clothes. Unless we notice her face, her figure, her clothes she can't maintain her profile and without her profile she doesn't have a career. If she wants us to notice her appearance she can not complain if people express opinions.

mellowheart · 31/08/2015 14:47

I agree mistigri but that's what I was saying in my other post. Unfortunate though it is lots of girls have got their careers purely through their looks and their size, and seem quite happy to do so. I don't think anyone should havefame because of their looks alone but that seems to be the case for Cheryl and many like her. They must know they're not that talented but are quite happy to take advantage of their looks to bring the fame and fortune. So whose fault is it?

suzannefollowmyvan · 31/08/2015 14:50

kind of nearly verging on emaciated, she has that 'disappear when you turn sideways' thing which is a bit alarming

Mintyy · 31/08/2015 14:55

"I agree with the poster who said that If we were talking about someone like Adele and saying

''Adele's got really fat. Maybe she's ill''
''It's not right being that size''

MN (hell, the whole bloody internet) would EXPLODE! hmm"

Adele's life is not in immediate danger though, is it? She might have health problems in later life, she might not. If she is anorexic then CC's problem is more extreme and way more serious in the present than someone carrying an extra 3 stone or so.

WhataRacquet · 31/08/2015 15:09

I think it's the fact that she looks unwell that has people talking. She looks really weak and frail when they show her walking around.

Lweji · 31/08/2015 15:11

I'm about that size. Not weak nor frail. (although it's interesting to note other people's perceptions and their reaction when they realise I'm not really)

WhataRacquet · 31/08/2015 15:14

lweji maybe because that's normal for you. A few years ago I was ill and lost a lot of weight very quickly and I did feel very frail.

Aramble · 31/08/2015 15:14

I think unclothed and breathing in she'd look the same as unknown anorexic woman.

She is clearly, clearly very unwell and shouldn't be allowed to be on TV in that position - for both her sake and the sake of young girls who will see this as something to aspire to.

The more I think about it the angier I get. ITV is bring irresponsible.

Aramble · 31/08/2015 15:14

Lweji · 31/08/2015 15:20

I really don't see how she looks ill.

And if she weighs anything like me (same height), she is well above a BMI of 17.5, even at my lowest weight. Which is underweight, but definitely NOT anorexic. And if she has my current weight then it's on the normal range.

Lweji · 31/08/2015 15:21

if a person who works on a family targeted show wants to be unhealthily thin it's a problem.

FFS. What about the unhealthily fat?
Where are the hate threads about fat women on family targeted shows?

(not that her weight is unhealthy - see posts below)
