Stealth boasting?

I wonder if we could have a "definition" of stealth boasting. I keep seeing accusations of it which I think are unwarranted.

My interpretation is, "while sitting on a gold chair in my luxury apartment in number one Hyde Park, my husband said he wanted to watch a different channel on the telly" is stealth boasting because it isn't relevant to the issue.

However, "as my house is very slightly larger, my I laws have decided that they are going to sell their house and move in with us" would not be stealth boasting as the size of house is relevant.

and that not but that.... you know what I meant!

FunkyPeacock · 18/08/2015 18:41

IABU to think that bad time keeping by tradespeople is totally unacceptable? - The pool cleaner was due to arrive at 10am but didn't show up til noon causing me to be late for my lunch date at Claridges. If I decide to ditch him, can anyone recommend a good pool man in Kensington?

eurogoose · 18/08/2015 18:41

S&B lately seems very prone to what I consider stealth boasts. "how old do I look?" - nowhere close to your age and you fucking know it or you wouldn't be asking Grin and "how fat am I?".
Just fishing for compliments by pretending they're concerned they look old or fat.
It's tedious but the threads are easy to ignore.

Witch

You have had too much of the cherry bake well vodka haven't you????

WitchofScots · 18/08/2015 18:48

Christina yes, guilty as charged but because we have the chauffeur I don't need to drive anywhere you see Grin

WitchofScots · 18/08/2015 18:49

OK, I've just got to ask. I'm a bit concerned that I may have let myself go a bit, but what do you all think?

Stealth boasting?
Christinayanglah · 18/08/2015 18:52

If think it is a vast improvement

Holidayornot · 18/08/2015 18:52

Where are all the threads with people asking how old they look? I'd love to have a look

WitchofScots · 18/08/2015 18:55

Maybe I should have a go on the guess you age ones. I'm absolutely hopeless at ages of anyone over about age 12yo.
Otoh I'm quite good at guess the name of the teddybear. I've won that 5 or 6 times. Grin

WitchofScots · 18/08/2015 19:01

I was tempted to post the troll picture in S&B and ask for guess of my age but I wasn't sure that MNHQ would see the funny side of it before gin o'clock.

AgathaChristie01 · 18/08/2015 19:02

I notice it more on another site I'm on.
'Is two years old too young to start school? Of course I started school at 18 months. At that stage I was fluent in six languages, and ... ' Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 18/08/2015 19:04

I'm just so sad that I have nothing to stealth boast about.

Wait…is that a stealth boast in and of itself?

Totality22 · 18/08/2015 19:06

Someone started a thread recently along the lines of 'should I check into a hotel as my teenage kids do fuck all around the house to help' but managed to shoe horn into the opening post that kids were all privately educated, all got cars for their 17th birthday and all had the latest gadgets and gizmos.

Not really relevant to her plight imo I may be a bit jealous she wouldn't adopt me

You are too modest

bettyberry · 18/08/2015 19:22

Stealth boasting can also include photos. The focus being on a person/group but in the background is branded shopping bags/expensive tat or an something else that is obviously expensive and squeezed into frame.

I know lots who do this. Dresses with designer tags hanging out when you know they always end up on the insides!

Goshthatsspicy · 18/08/2015 19:33

I want to see the guess the age thread too.
Has anyone got a link please.?
I remember that thread total the poster was very nice though. So l forgave her Wink

Christina

Why thank you! Now I can stealth boast by beginning all my posts with 'Speaking most humbly……'.

Grin
PrettyPoppies · 18/08/2015 20:28

WitchofScots - I've just had to grind my teeth to stop me from laughing at your post!! DD has just gone to sleep with her legs on my stomach so would have woken her up. Grin

DJThreeDog · 18/08/2015 20:29

I posted on a 'how old...' thread.

I was guessed at early 40s. I'm 32, so that was a spectacular backfire!

I enjoyed the stealth boast on a thread the other day about bumping cars - and how the OP had a high end motor Grin
