to think Camila Batmanghelidjh must be lying when she says she has done nothing wrong in her spending of Kid's Company Charity Funding?

LuluJakey1 · 17/08/2015 10:44

She is like Jimmy Saville in that what she has been doing has been under all of all our noses and we have refused to speak up about it or believe it.

It is not just the luvvies who have been up close and personal with her- involved with the charity and CB at a very close level, some even Trustees. It is also the employees and the parents of children, the children themselves, the volunteers. We are not talking about a hidden mis-use of funding. We are talking aout a whole culture of open waste and self-indulgence.

I know it is from The Daily Mail but it is actually an interview with het.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3199527/My-heart-clear-says-Kids-Company-boss-Batmanghelidjh-admits-charity-paid-school-fees-employees-children-denies-wrongdoing.html

£5000 a month rent on an Art Deco House with private swimming pool - which houses a member of staff, and the swimming pool is used by CB but hot by any children- they are 'not allowed' (her words)

£40,000 chauffeur- now a specialist worker (according to CB). also has private school and therapist funding for his 2 children.

Staff( how many?) have their children sent to private schools because the job is stressful and it is part of a 'staff well-being package'

The Chauffeur's sister is also employed - now as a 'brilliant accountant', last summer as 'the woman who does my sewing' (mind you that would be a full-time job in itself, but it does imply the charity pays for those vile outfits much as I suspected)

25 young people given £769,000 a year funding - £31,000 a year each, to do nothing. They are CB's specially selected young people- many of whom have received funding for many years. She describes them as 'like a family, hanging round the house'. She deals with their funding herself.

Yet STILL CB complains staff should not have spoken up about any of this and implies those who have will suffer for it.

In my view this woman and her behaviours are corrupt, dishonest and immoral.

Are my views unreasonable? I feel this could be jus the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is yet to emerge and prosecutions will be very likely.

I think there should be a down- to the -bone, in-depth investigation of every aspect of the work of this charity and of CB. Not simply any concerns that have now been raised but a complete trawl of the spending, the practices and the behaviours of CB herself.

I think that obituary is unreliable. It repeats that he studied with Alexander Fleming who, I think from upthread, had already retired by the time he went to medical school.

whatsonyourplate · 29/08/2015 20:00

True Eastpoint but that wording must have come from somewhere.
On another point I think there might be something a bit off with the story of sister Lila. One article I read (sorry mislaid the reference) said she threw herself under a train, but survived, then died of an overdose, which I suppose could be possible. However I haven't been able to find a death record for any Batmanghelidj/h in the UK (could just be me having trouble finding my way around the Death records).

I used to know someone who used to lie all the time ...about really stupid things and often really obvious - it got to the point where I couldn't believe anything she said....I wondered if she had some kind of MH problem?
She told a couple of us about a day out (nothing exciting) for her friend x's birthday (x did exist but we never spoke to them) ....then later that day she told another group of people (in front of me) it was x's birthday and they had done something more exciting and completely different ...I was Confused and did wonder whether to call her on it...I never did.
I had an abnormal smear and treatment ...a few months later she had an afternoon off for a lumpectomy but no after treatment etc...I was always a bit Hmm
She was a vegan...but I saw her sitting in a burger king eating something that looked like a burger (not chips) - guess it could just have been a bun? ...I was driving past, stopped at a junction. Afaik burger king still doesn't do burgers for vegans and (at the time) my veggie friend used to get onion rings and chips as those were the only veggie options...
I looked at her linkedin profile a while ago trying to get an idea of job options (she definitely had a similar qualification and situation to me) and it said she also had a qualification from before I worked with her that had never been mentioned and you would have expected it to be...she also said she was currently working somewhere but not the specifics ...I couldn't find a trace of her working there ...(then I discovered people know if you stalk on linkedin so haven't dared look more recently Smile)
I couldn't believe that no-one called her on their lies (I didn't though - guess it was too socially awkward?) - and if that qualification and current place of work is a lie surely in this day and age it will be picked up on????
The point is it is actually hard to call someone on a lie - if they are confident about it - they seem to believe it ....even if it is blatant ...wonder if that was what happened to those journalists -or were they lazy and took everything at face value?

whatsonyourplate · 29/08/2015 20:21

I think it might be me actually, can't even find an entry for someone I know who's died.

VioletEffingham · 29/08/2015 20:28

Lila Batmanghelidjh's death was registered in Q2 1981, according to Ancestry.

Yourethe1formefatty · 29/08/2015 20:39

The interview in Glamour Magazine in May this year

Is jaw-dropping.

I can't get over her use of the term 'disturbed' Shock

She also says in it she couldn't read until she was 12. Though she is quote as saying in the [[http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1569693/Woman-who-lives-for-other-peoples-children.html Telegraph]] "at the age of nine I arranged for my mother to receive a psychology journal every month, because I wanted to read it," she says with a laugh.

As an aside, I knew very little about Kids Company before this all made the news. I do remember the name always struck me as an odd choice for an organisation working with deprived young people.

I used to be a youth worker and the young people we worked with would not be attracted as something that bills itself as for kids.

I appreicate that CB worked with a broad age group but in terms of teenagers it's youth work 101 that you don't ever call them 'kids'. At the very least not when they can hear you, at any rate. Always seemed an odd choice of name to me.

Yourethe1formefatty · 29/08/2015 20:45

Also the Telegraph: "After 30 years in this country she's still classed as an asylum-seeker because she cannot fill in the forms."

Arf.

Yourethe1formefatty · 29/08/2015 20:46

The masters thing as well, sheesh. 21 isn't 'young' to do a Masters anyway, is it?! If you do 3 years over undergad at from age 18 and go straight to a Masters you'd likely be 21 when you started..

TheBeautifulAndTheDamned · 29/08/2015 20:50

OMG

'Cut up Persisn carpets or jump through Francis Bacon paintings'

Where on earth does she come up with this stuff?

whatsonyourplate · 29/08/2015 20:54

Thanks Violet.

TheBeautifulAndTheDamned · 29/08/2015 20:54

And that wonderful story about her mortgage and the Abbey National.

These fantasies are all so juvenile. Incredible.

BoffinMum · 29/08/2015 20:58

I think it's right to say it's hard to call someone on obvious lies. I worked with someone who boasted a lot about his major sporting successes at Hull University, when he was supposedly studying law. This was odd as he looked a bit wimpy to me, and he was crap with complex paperwork. I happened to have a relative who attended Hull at the same time he did and asked if they had heard of this sporting demigod. Relative knew nothing about him. I then checked with Hull (this was pre-data protection and you could just phone up a university and ask about this sort of thing) and they had never heard of him either. In other words, he was a liar. I told my boss and my boss didn't seem to care. AFAIK the bloke is still walking around claiming to have a law degree from Hull. He had pushed someone out a role where we worked on the basis of apparently having superior qualifications, as well, to add insult to injury.

When I apply for academic jobs now we have to provide original certificates of absolutely everything we claim to have, in my case 17 different degrees/diplomas/certificates/bits of paper proving fellowships etc! ! I can only presume many universities have got burned by fraudsters and are now very thorough ...

BoffinMum · 29/08/2015 21:01

So if she is an asylum seeker, presumably she will be repatriated to Iran if she is convicted of fraud or whatever, then?

BoskyCat · 29/08/2015 21:22

As an aside, I knew very little about Kids Company before this all made the news. I do remember the name always struck me as an odd choice for an organisation working with deprived young people.

Yes me too! I always thought "well I suppose it must be a good charity as everyone says it's so great, but why the hell is it called that?" It sounds like a soft play cafe or a pre-teen singing troupe.

missmartha · 29/08/2015 21:22

I think you have a time limit of 5 years in which to be granted asylum and it's reviewed every 5 years thereafter.

Being granted asylum, doesn't give you the right to stay forever.

ChilliAndMint · 29/08/2015 21:27

There is no record of CB's sisters death on Genes Reunited, and it would be if she died in the UK over 8 years ago. Me wonders if she is herself Lila Batmanghelij, Camila, Lila, ?? Similar names.

ChilliAndMint · 29/08/2015 21:37

Or Sharmine, born in 1958?

BloodyLeadStuckInSharpener · 29/08/2015 22:40

So so odd

ComposHatComesBack · 29/08/2015 23:54

Camilla Batmanghiedgh's mother Lucille is still alive and. She is still alive and her registration as a company director gives her nationality as British rather than Belgian. Given that her parents met in London, I wonder if there's a marriage certificate that may shed some more light on CB's fanciful claims about her origins.

www.checkcompany.co.uk/director/1148234/LUCILLE-BATMANGHELIDJ

ChristineDePisan · 30/08/2015 03:20

I expect what happened re CB's immigration status was that she was granted asylum and became a refugee back in the day and at some point since then applied to become a British citizen. So technically she isn't a refugee anymore (and wouldn't be deported back to Iran if convicted of criminal wrong doing) and should say something like "I was granted asylum" rather than "I am a refugee".

(missmartha the 5 year rules on refugee status are relatively new, certainly well after CB's claim would have been decided)

"The documents also show that Kids Company spent £396,082 on a project described as ‘Brain Correlates Of Childhood Maltreatment’.
It involved using brains scans to try to prove that being mistreated as a child can turn people violent."

Probably fMRI, phrenology with prettier pictures.

bigkidsdidit · 30/08/2015 07:50

There's also apparently a note on one file saying the client had sexually assaulted a girl on the kc premises. No note of any sanctions, and gives lie to the 'no child protection issues'
