Beach towels used in the bathroom

AIBU? Recently returned from our Corsica holiday. Before we went I invested in some lovely beach towels. DH keeps using them in the bathroom and hanging them on the towel rack. AIBU to be irritated?

All 5 of us have white towels in our ensuites. The guest room has blue towels. The downstairs toilet has lilac towels. The downstairs shower room has brown towels.

We live in a hot country by the beach and water park and have a pool so I have amassed a collection of around 20 or so beach towels for such things. There is always a set in the washing machine or hanging out as the kids are never out of the water.

Madeyemoodysmum · 16/08/2015 09:05

Do jo me too!

But I don't use beach towels in a bathroom. Ergh

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/08/2015 10:05

LondonRach, you should definitely be worried.
I mean what if you have a guest and they whip shit on your towels?!
I think you should get to Dunelm Mill asap.
You need 6 bathtowels, 6 handtowels, 3 bathmats and as many facecloths as you can carry.

I feel vindicated. The YANBU seem to be the majority. I knew I was right.

Thanks, nicestrongtea.

Now, may I put the cat among the pigeons and say that we use microfibre towels for swimming and beach?

daisychain01 · 16/08/2015 12:29

[Wonders......Is it time yet to break out with the Anthea Turner video on the perfect way to fold towels...]

EastMidsMummy · 16/08/2015 12:40

A towel is a towel is a towel.

mrsruffallo · 16/08/2015 12:50

Ooof..not a microfibre fan I'm afraid

I'm not massively house proud and have to have matching everything. I have two toddlers and a baby on the way, the house is always scattered with toys and kiddy things so whilst it is clean and generally tidy it will never be a show home. Whichever towels are clean and dry at the time are used as bath towels. A towel is a towel, it serves the purpose! definitely wouldn't be something I would want to waste time arguing with my fiance over!

NurseRoscoe · 16/08/2015 13:01

That meant to say I don't have to have matching everything, doesn't really make much sense!

ephemeralfairy · 16/08/2015 13:04

I only have beach towels! They are a good size, cheap and they have cool animal print patterns/hot pink polka dots rather than being fucking 'taupe' or whatever. I'll taupe when I'm dead.

WorktoLive · 16/08/2015 13:17

YABU for using the phrase 'invested in' for buying towels.

We have separate beach towels because they are those crap velvety patterned ones that are quite light for travelling. I wouldn't want to use those as everyday bathroom towels.

Then we have nice Egyptian cotton ones that are in the bathroom and for swimming etc.

Never thought of having swimming towels but I am now perusing this thread for ideas of different towels to buy.

BikeRunSki · 16/08/2015 13:29

We just have towels.

chunters · 16/08/2015 13:32

YANBU

We have towels for the bathroom, towels for swimming an towels for the beach. I keep them separate but I find they have been used for the 'wrong' purpose I do get a bit annoyed Smile

sugar21 · 16/08/2015 13:32

Ooo so you went to Corsica. Thanks for informing all of us of that little snippet.
You do realise that an awful lot of the world's population do not have the option of water to wash or drink let alone get in a frenzy over a sodding towelAngry

overthemill · 16/08/2015 13:33

Sounds offsetting you need to acquaint yourself with the luxurious pile of Christies beach towels! Not those cheap things from Primark

KurriKurri · 16/08/2015 14:51

I've recently come into a little bit of money and was looking for investment ideas - are beach towels the way to go ?

Sgtmajormummy · 16/08/2015 14:55

We can all be offputting and sanctimonious if we like, but most choose not to.

PMSL. Most ridiculous and irrelevant comment on this thread :o

Lj8893 · 16/08/2015 15:21

It would annoy me but I know it's completely irrational. We each have a beach/swimming towel and they stay in our swimming bag, we go swimming fairly regularly.

Loafliner · 16/08/2015 15:34

Luxurious white towels for the house...highly coloured towels for the beach, swimming pool or the dog. I don't want my white towels ruined at the beach or the swimming pool but I wouldn't be bothered if someone choose a beach towel at home.

MaidOfStars · 16/08/2015 16:38

Main bathroom - dark grey, light grey and oatmeal Egyptian cotton, bath sheets/bath towels/hand towels and flannels.
Ensuite bathroom - duck egg blue, stone and very light grey Egyptian cotton, bath sheets/bath towels/hand towels and flannels.
WC - white Egyptian cotton, hand towels and flannels.
Beach - rainbow-striped towels with dolphin and shell borders, ginormous, funny fluffiness on one side.

Every towel has a place Wink

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/08/2015 16:43

OP, make sure you put the beach towels away so he can't get at them. Ideally inside a suitcase so he doesn't see them til it's time to go to the beach again!

Make a nice pile of folded white towels in the bathroom for his daily usage.

Men will generally just use what is closest/easiest.

Pumpkinette · 16/08/2015 17:54

YABU. Beach towels are great after a bath or shower. Could your DP perhaps use them but not put them out on display as it obviously upsets you looking at them.

Once upon a time I had only purple and lilac towels to match my bathroom. Then when we got married we were given 2 lovely set of towels but unfortunately one set was banana yellow and the other set was pea green. They were great quality so we obviously used them regardless of colour. All towels are currently in rotation alongside our beach towels and the embroidered pink towels DD was given as a gift when she was a baby and as we have moved house none of them matches our new bathroom - who cares? Life is too short to worry about colour coordinated towels.

mrsruffallo · 16/08/2015 18:03

Sugar21- what a ridiculous comment. Are we only allowed to discuss topics you deem important enough?
