Beach towels used in the bathroom

AIBU? Recently returned from our Corsica holiday. Before we went I invested in some lovely beach towels. DH keeps using them in the bathroom and hanging them on the towel rack. AIBU to be irritated?

YABU

We have six dc (two of which are teenagers), in our house if it even vaguely resembles a towel it gets used Grin

PestoSwimissimos · 15/08/2015 20:25

I'm another one who has proper fluffy towels in the bathrooms & has bright garish towels for the pool & beach. Never the twain shall mix in this household!

FrizzyNoodles · 15/08/2015 20:32

I keep the beach towels in the suitcase with other holiday stuff like plug adapters, passports, leftover currency, mini bottles. Our bath towels are massive though and colour coordinated. Reading that back it seems like I'm actually tidy and organised...

BalconyBill · 15/08/2015 21:04

We have hammam towels for the beach/pool (except DS2 who is fussy!). I buy a few more in the market in Turkey every year so we always have 10 or floating around. They occasionally get used in the bathroom if all of the bath towels have migrated up to DD's room.

Would never take bath towels to the beach as they get full of sand very easily. They also take longer to dry!

pineapplecrush · 15/08/2015 21:06

I've with you OP. I like to keep them separate. California dreaming logo and such do not look right in my terracotta themed bathroom! Bath towels on a beach - no - slippery slope to sunbathing in your bra!!

scatterthenuns · 15/08/2015 21:07

I'm with the OP. Beach towels are used for holidays only!

lottiesatitagain · 15/08/2015 21:09

Agree with you op. Bathroom towels are not the same as beach towel.

IvyWall · 15/08/2015 21:11

My teenagers use beach towels in their bathroom. Not sure why

I have big fluffy proper towels in my bathroom

ilovechristmas1 · 15/08/2015 21:11

jesus people are stealth boasting about towels

never heard of hammam towels Confused im expecting you could feed a family for a week for the cost of them Grin

only on MN

Sapat · 15/08/2015 21:18

Jealous of people who have a towel cupboard. All my towels and bedding are in the airing cupboard and with a family of 5 it is full. Bathroom sadly too small.

Happy36 · 15/08/2015 21:34

I go to the hammam pretty often. But I don't know what a hammam towel is? Blush

nagynolonger · 15/08/2015 21:43

We have always used beach towels in the bathroom for the DC. No point keeping them just for the beach.

They all had a special towel for swimming. Where else would we have ever used an England football towel other than at swimming lessons.

I do have matching bath sheets and bath towels for me and DH.......I will admit on here we have the bathrobes too. I would never tell anyone that in RL.

OOAOML · 15/08/2015 21:45

I don't have beach towels or a towel cupboard, I appear to be deprivedWink

nicestrongtea · 15/08/2015 22:19

A hammam towel is made of woven cotton and is thin rather than soft and fluffy like a towelling towel iyswim ?

They are pretty cheap and really nice in the summer when its hot and they dry very quickly as well.
Great for packing as they are so light.

nicestrongtea · 15/08/2015 22:24

Forgot to add Im a traditionalist and my towels are kept in the airing cupboard.
I love a warm fluffy towel.
They are in size order on the shelves.
Large bath sheets at the bottom and all the way up to hand towels at the top.

I have specific hand towels for the bathroom and others for the kitchen. They are different colours and are never swapped over Blush

I wont go into bed linen and its storage you would all laugh at me Blush

Inertia · 15/08/2015 22:34

YANBU. Hide the beach towels.

We take extra-large trek/ camping towels as beach towels, because they pack up really small and dry very quickly, but still feel like proper towels. ( In fact we have 2 each, so when we go camping we have a shower towel and a beach towel each).

We each have swimming towels which live in our swimming bags- they get washed and repacked so are always ready for swimming lessons etc.

Bathroom towels are for the bathroom.

Guest towels live in the spare bedroom.
Old towels are used when the kids have been in the paddling pool/ sprinkler.

Very old towels are used for cleaning/ decorating.

We bought huge colourful beach towels on our honeymoon in Portugal for 3.50 each. They are velvety on one side and towel on the other. That was 30 years ago and they have been used almost every day since we bought them. They have been on every holiday, they are always used for swimming and are fantastic to wrap up in after a bath or shower at home.
Apart from minimal fading they look exact the same as when we bought them.

Itsthevibe · 16/08/2015 01:52

YANBU.

Plus if they're all brightly coloured and look 'beachy' , well, It looks all wrong.

Moopsboopsmum · 16/08/2015 02:00

YANBU we have beach towels, different swimming pool towels and bathroom towels.

shadowfax07 · 16/08/2015 02:12

Oh goodness, we have really complicated towel rules here. We have beach towels, which are mainly blue and velour on one side. I use white towels (bath sheet, hand towel, flannel and hair turban), DP uses either a grey or navy bath sheet, the towel in the downstairs toilet is a caramel colour and the kitchen towel is green. The dog's towel is purple microfibre.

DP refuses to use white bath sheets as he has psoriasis and occasionally bleeds on them when he's drying himself. I wouldn't mind, as long as he put it in the washing basket when he did, but he feels better having his own towel.

OP, YANBU.

daisychain01 · 16/08/2015 08:01

Star best first world problem of the week!

And yes Just to add YANBU - I would be equally irritated by the sight of our cheap beach towels seeing the light of day in the bathroom, when I went to the trouble of getting colour coordinated towel sets so we all use our own colour yes DP I'm looking at you, stop wiping your arse on MY towel , wrong on many levels! Gl

daisychain01 · 16/08/2015 08:04

Glad I'm not the only one ( probably need to get a life)!

sandgrown · 16/08/2015 08:21

Live near the beach so our beach towels get out quite often but like Frizzy I pack them away with holiday "stuff". Lots of them were emergency buys when we have gone somewhere unprepared and DC have wanted to paddle. If we could just have another bathroom for DS he could use whatever he likes !

chaiselounger · 16/08/2015 08:39

Beach towels are huge thus fab. Should be used more. Bring out the beach towel campaign!!

londonrach · 16/08/2015 08:46

Should i be worried ive only got 6 towels in total, including my hand towels. Are beach towels those large ones with disney or similar big designs on that feel awful when you touch them? (Worries i dont have enough towels, we move alot in my deference)
