Woman on train

DH and I took our toddler on the train today. The train wasn't super busy but there were no free seats so we walked to the next carriage. A woman and her teenage daughter were sitting at a table for four. So we approached and asked them to move over so that we could sit in the two free seats.
The woman started sighing and eye rolling at her daughter as though we were being complete pains in the arse. I told her that she was rude and entitled and asked if she expected the train to herself. Her daughter then started saying " she only sighed, she is allowed to sigh". The woman herself remained silent and then said exasperatedly "there's so much space!", which there was in the aisles. There were no other free seats at all.
AIBU to have fantasised about spilling my coffee all over them? I can't believe she thought a pregnant woman with a toddler should stand up so that she and her daughter could have a table for four to themselves!

Oh yes, I would, Emma, oh yes I would. You must be the most arrogant and self-entitled on MN tonight.

Icimoi · 12/08/2015 21:53

What I'm interested to know is why would anyone want to or forcefully push themselves next to a total stranger who clearly does not want that person to sit next to them?

Because they've paid for a seat and there are no other seats? Why should I stand up just because you want an empty seat next to you?

milliemanzi · 12/08/2015 21:53

That's cool if you don't want people to sit next to you Emma, just make sure you buy a ticket for the empty seat, it's only fair wouldn't you say?

Anyway OP that woman sounds like a dick, I once had a row with someone that tutted at me when I asked her to move her waitrose carrier bag off the seat so I could sit down, it was amazing how furious she was, what a bellend.

WayneRooneysHair · 12/08/2015 21:54

Assault? I think the transport police would side with the disabled person.

ilovesooty · 12/08/2015 21:54

Thankfully I doubt there are many people around who think they can commandeer two seats. Anyone who thinks like that simply can't have been introduced to basic manners during their upbringing.

balletgirlmum · 12/08/2015 21:55

It's not assault if someone accidentally steps or sits in you whilst climbing over you. The only one liable to be charged with assault would be you if you resisted or tried to obstruct a person getting to their seat. Then their would be the fine from the train company of course for taking up a seat for which you don't have a ticket.

EmmaU123 · 12/08/2015 21:55

I would move for a disabled person or pregnant woman, of course I would. And I've already said I do stand, and have done on many occasions, once for over an hour, and guess what.....it didn't bother me!

Who said anything about touching you Emma? They said you would be moving willingly or not, they would tell the conductor, the conductor would tell you to free up the space, you say no, the conductor will suspend your ticket and ask you to leave, if you refuse to leave they will call the police who can physically remove you from the train.

fairnotfit · 12/08/2015 21:55

Come on people, be kind. The extra seat is clearly for Emma's imaginary friend.

EmmaU123 · 12/08/2015 21:55

Oh shut up Wayne, you wouldn't.

ilovesooty · 12/08/2015 21:56

Wayne I think they'd side with anyone who wanted to sit in a vacant seat. The fact that Emma would choose to ignore a disability is an additional factor.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 12/08/2015 21:56

When do the kids go back to school?

TheSultanofPing · 12/08/2015 21:56

Emma You are rude. It's public transport fgs. Other people are just as entitled as you to a seat.

balletgirlmum · 12/08/2015 21:56

I forgot of course - it's school holidays.

TheBookofRuth · 12/08/2015 21:56

I'm glad Emma has an imaginary friend. It seems unlikely she has any real ones.

WayneRooneysHair · 12/08/2015 21:56

Yes I would you trumped up idiot.

WayneRooneysHair · 12/08/2015 21:57
Grin
EmmaU123 · 12/08/2015 21:58

I'm a trumped up idiot?......ok sure.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 12/08/2015 21:58

This thread is hilarious.

So sweet that Emma's insistence on solitude has so many people wanting to sit with her.

I would too. And i'd be sure to read her paper over her shoulder just to be extra irritating.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 12/08/2015 22:00

Emma also says on other threads that she has a child with additional needs which makes her twattishness and lack of empathy on this thread even more ridiculous if she is even real

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 12/08/2015 22:00

Anyone else think we need some Top Trumps style cards with Emma and Wayne's details on so that we can work out who'd win the Battle of the Seat?

EmmaU123 · 12/08/2015 22:00

Anyway, I've told you all what I think, you can all believe what you like of course but, if you got on the same train as me and i didn't want you to sit next to me then believe me, you damn well wouldn't. Goodnight everyone:)

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 12/08/2015 22:01

I would move for a disabled person or pregnant woman, of course I would

Ah, but what if the pregnant woman was smelly?

What if the disabled person was smelly and old?

Now there is a dilemma for you Emma Wink

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 12/08/2015 22:02

if you got on the same train as me and i didn't want you to sit next to me then believe me, you damn well wouldn't

I take it you buy two tickets then.
