Woman on train

DH and I took our toddler on the train today. The train wasn't super busy but there were no free seats so we walked to the next carriage. A woman and her teenage daughter were sitting at a table for four. So we approached and asked them to move over so that we could sit in the two free seats.
The woman started sighing and eye rolling at her daughter as though we were being complete pains in the arse. I told her that she was rude and entitled and asked if she expected the train to herself. Her daughter then started saying " she only sighed, she is allowed to sigh". The woman herself remained silent and then said exasperatedly "there's so much space!", which there was in the aisles. There were no other free seats at all.
AIBU to have fantasised about spilling my coffee all over them? I can't believe she thought a pregnant woman with a toddler should stand up so that she and her daughter could have a table for four to themselves!

It'd be you've been 'Emm-ard' cos Emma was like, well 'ard. She was all like emm-arding me, getting all up in my face and telling me to stop looking at her seat!!

Am I missing something asking someone to move to free up seats Confused

Though telling someone they are entitled gives you away as being a mn

Do not see anything wrong in commenting about other peoples behaviour towards you no one likes sitting close to strangers but that's what happens on public transport

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 13/08/2015 21:35

Aww poor Emma.
4ft 8'' and 6st pissed wet through in 'real life', yet 6ft 12st on MN.

Bless your cotton socks.

YY to finding it weird when people sit next to you when there's plenty of other spaces free. I don't like sitting next to people at the best of times but I accept that when it's busy there may not be another option.

If there's plenty of free seats then bloody use them!

I saw Emma on the bus once. It was a few years ago. She was sitting at the back of the bus (obviously) and as it was raining hard outside she decided she needed one seat for herself and one seat for her soaking wet umbrella.

Annoyingly for Emma it was rush hour in London and pretty soon lots of other people were looking for seats too. One selfish person rudely asked Emma to move so she could sit down, telling Emma she didn't want to have to sit on the seat Emma had soaked with her umbrella.

Emma pulled her best Vicky Pollard face and said, "Wot? How can I sit there? Its going to get me all wet. Can't you just stand for bleeps sake?" Person had the audacity to say no, she couldn't. Emma tutted loudly, rolled her eyes and moved over, swearing and huffing and puffing.

Now Emma is even more amazing and just tells people exactly how it is and refuses to move herself or her umbrella for anyone.

I just wanted to let you know Emma that I have always remembered watching you in action and I still think you are a complete doughnut.

Emma is 18 stone, has a tattooed face, wears a vest top, tracky bottoms and smells of last night's vodka and piss. That's why no-one sits next to her. Grin

Asking someone to budge up on a busy train - fine.

Commenting on their sighing and telling them they are rude and entitled = makes you look like a total twat. Sorry but it does. You caused way more confrontation that was needed. They move up and eye roll, you give them a huge smile and say "thank you so much, really appreciate it, I can't believe how busy the train has got!"

The trains my dh and dd get are so busy it is more a case of getting on the train to stand all the way never mind getting a seat. In the past few months dh was hit in the face by a woman with her handbag trying to stop dh getting on the train so she could take the last remaining few square inches of Foot space and a few days later when dd stepped onto the last remaining few inches of the train a woman grabbed her blazer from behind and pulled dd off the train so she could get the last remaining space. Dd was left sat on her bottom on the platform. Dd had the last laugh as the woman who pulled her off was too big and when the doors shut she also ended on her bottom on the platform.

Emma given what the trains are like around here you would probably end up with people sitting on your knees and tables are used as another place to sit.

giraffesCantBrushTheirTeeth · 14/08/2015 13:46

If Emma refused to let me sit then I would accidently on purpose fall on to her.

I'm suddenly regretting my parents' choice of name for me. I wonder if I could reinvent myself as an 'Emily'? Grin
