To think you should smile for wedding photos rather than pull stupid faces

One of my facebook friends has just shared a large amount of photos of a wedding she attended at the weekend. I don't know if they had an official photographer or not and , but the ones she shared were awful. The bride was either pouting or pulling funny faces, the worse one was of her sticking her tongue out, the guests were doing the same. They were also doing that weird gangster thing whatever it is with their hands. It just looked so innapropiate especially with them all dressed up in their wedding finery. Oh and the pouting, even the kids were doing that. Is it me getting old and boring? I mean what's up with just smiling.

Are they your wedding pictures? If not yabvu, only the bride and from will be interested in the pictures past the next few weeks so irrelevant really. I'm sure there are some normal ones.

As long as they enjoyed their wedding it doesn't really matter does it? Why do you care what their wedding photos look like? If they were guests at your wedding and pulled silly faces in the background of all your photos I'd giggle agree with you, but in this case I'm going to say yabu. Do what you like on your own photos, I didn't want to pull silly faces in mine but I'd like to think I had the option to if I wanted.

No it's not a massive deal to me, it's their business at the end of the day, I just thought I'd give my opinion on it. I wonder why little girls get encouraged to pout like they do. It's just awful.

My BIL thinks it is amusing to pull stupid faces in photos.

At my parents 50th wedding anniversary he was told that everyone was fed up with him ruining photos and to have a little respect for their wish to have a nice family photo. He managed to restrain himself

Nothing better than a lovely smile! I know it's their pics so doesn't bother me, just think it's odd.. A few funny pics are great but lovely to have smiles. Pouts make people look vain and miserable.

If they're the sort of people who pull funny faces in pictures, why wouldn't they in their wedding pictures? It's part of their personality. You don't stop having a personality on your wedding day.

I think it's one of those things where it's funny at the time.

few weeks later and sifting through a bunch of funny faced photos would annoy me and I would regret not posing nicely for at least one or two

But this made me laugh. The gangster bit especially. I have no idea why people think that is remotely funny. "Yay - we might rob a bank on our wedding day"

I hate any pouting pictures though. I think people look stupid and vain

Isn't it funny how "fashions" in photographs change.

The only remotely "funny" photos at weddings in my day was usually one posed shot of the best man dragging the groom into the church or the groom taking the brides garter off.

A few funny photos are fine but surely people also want nice smiley faced normal ones too?

Urgh, hate pouty faces, just ridiculous. Do you think the people that pull them (especially on selfies it seems) know how fucking stupid they look?

Sadly, dignity and grace do seem to have gone out of fashion, but I dont know why. I cant remember who said it, possibly my grandma, but it was good advice "If you are not sure how to behave, pretend you are with the Queen and you wont go wrong".

I'd be willing to bet the 'proper' ones are for the album, maybe a couple of funny ones thrown in, and the funnies were just shared on FB for the laugh. Like that original dinosaur chasing the guests one.

We had our wedding photographer do one of all the adult men arranged on and arround a grand old stone staircase, all with sun glasses on, unsmiling, standing and sitting in various arms folded sort of poses, and got it produced in black and white.

It was meant to be funny - and it kind of was - but they all also looked so darn cool in their suits and shades in black and white that they all wanted a print of that particular pic

The person paying for the photos gets to decide what tone they take - if they have an in-joke or want to do something that reflects their special day as opposed to someone else's idea of what photos should look like then surely that is their choice. I doubt very much that the fact a friend of one of their wedding guests might prefer to see smiles even entered their head, in the same way that it wouldn't occur to me to form much of an opinion on what anyone else chooses for their wedding photos.

Another old gimmer here, but I have who no recollection of "funny" snaps involving groom being pulled into church or of groom removing garter.
Or maybe the wedding photos I've seen dating from the 40s onwards were unusual? It certainly wasn't in vogue at any of the weddings I've been to.

I only laugh because 'dignified' and 'graceful' are two adjectives I'd never apply to myself! Even if I tried. I'm a 6ft lump of a woman, hardly a demure princess. But then, I've never really known how to behave in polite company.

And as for that nonsense about the Queen, why should I (or anyone else) be beholden to an over-privileged pensioner?

Oh I've definitely seen photos like that from the 70s/80s Lavender - but it was usually just one out of the whole album and done very tongue-in-cheek.

Actually, to be honest, DH and I look fairly miserable in most of our wedding pics; the day was a complete hoot, but we both hate having our photo taken and I hate my smile (it makes my chin stick out) so we are a bit 'American Gothic' in some of them..:

If the wedding was this past weekend, then the photos are certainly not the "official" wedding photos; it takes weeks to get those. Just because someone snapped some silly ones doesn't mean there aren't more traditional ones, too.
