Traffic needed Early menopause

I had a blood test and it's confirmed I'm going through early menopause. I'm 29.

Lucky for me I don't want any more children.

However I don't feel like I have the support.

Really don't want to take HRT, but these hot flushes and hormones are driving me nuts.

Gosh...29 is very young for menopause. I know you don't want anymore children, but that must feel upsetting, nonetheless. Sorry you are going through this.

Who are you not getting support from? Your GP? Get another one!

There are alternative to HRT, I believe but you really need a pro to go through them with.

According to the NHS website, you should be referred to a consultant gynae. Has this happened?

I was early but not that early (38) and also didn't want any more children so was lucky on that front. Although I have to admit I did struggle with the "no more kids" thing emotionally, even though I knew mentally I didn't want any more IYSWIM.

I have been on HRT for about 6 years now. My GP explained it as the slight increased risk of certain cancers (breast mostly I think) was far, far outweighed by the increased risk of osteoperosis and heart disease (I think). Sorry I am so vague on the medical details but it made perfect sense at the time.

Hang in there OP, this too will pass. Having come out the other side, I love not having my period any more. No more mood swings and PMT and bloating either. My skin and hair are great. No more condoms or birth control and did I mention NO MORE PERIODS????

Aah yes LemonCream is right, I saw a consultant gynaecologist at my local hospital. I had forgotten about that. Mind you this was 7 or 8 years ago...

I had a hysterectomy when I was 43 and chose not to take HRT.

I took a supplement every day instead and I rarely suffered hot flushes or night sweats, maybe I was lucky.

The menopause has been manageable for me, I've not had any issues other than a little weight gain but that's ok by me.

ask for a referral to the early menopause clinic - gynae teams run them and they're v helpful.

the current advice is to take hrt up to the age of normal menopause as the risks are no higher - you're replacing hormones you dont have. hrt will help protect your bones. heart etc. you may find uou need bone scans to monitor for osteoporosis.
