Ok so people are going on about the lion. And as terrible as it is.

HOW MANY OF YOU EAT MEAT.

seriously contradiction or what.

OP posts:
CitySnicker · 29/07/2015 18:57

Agree with poster above.
People don't need to eat meat. They choose to because it gives them pleasure.
Many animals go through a horrific process before their death.
People just don't want to compare the two because it's inconvenient.

Onedayinthesun · 29/07/2015 18:59

OP no contradiction?? So a rich entitled fucking dick pays 35 grand to shoot an endangered animal for pure pleasure and prove to himself that yes, he is indeed top of the food chain. Revolting.
Not the same as eating a chicken sandwich.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 29/07/2015 19:00

I think the other point with Cecil is he was an animal who brought a lot of other people pleasure, and helped provide a livelihood via safari tours. And for one man to pay to take that away from many is really really hard to justify.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/07/2015 19:02

Actually people are ominvors and supposed to eat meat.
just look at your teeth. they are designed to cope with any type of food including meat.
your body needs vitamins that are only found in meat
if people choose not to eat meat that's fine.

now, I have no idea what lion people are talking about.
what happened?

mmollytoots · 29/07/2015 19:03

I've even on mn for a while.

look at all the people saying eating meats ok. And no you don't need meat to substain humans (what an uneducated statement.

people eat steak or chicken because they fancy it and are not necessarily hungry but just being greedy so is this ok then. Hmm

OP posts:
mmollytoots · 29/07/2015 19:04

so because its sociably acceptable to eat meat then it doesn't matter that a animal died for it for example like a lion

OP posts:
RosePetels · 29/07/2015 19:05

He killed for pleasure not to eat and I find it disturbing he thought he accomplished some sort of achievement to kill the endangered lion who was a dominate male.

SurlyCue · 29/07/2015 19:08

And no you don't need meat to substain humans (what an uneducated statement.

Grin oh stop!! This is too much. You're doing it on purpose arent you?

Are you bored, OP?

And can we take it you don't eat meat?

Whiskwarrior · 29/07/2015 19:10

Surly Grin

SurlyCue · 29/07/2015 19:10

I find it disturbing he thought he accomplished some sort of achievement to kill the endangered lion who was a dominate male.

Yes an animal that was basically laid at his feet for him to (unsuccessfully) kill. He couldnt even kill it when it was right infront of him. What a man! Hmm

valerie123 · 29/07/2015 19:11

Presumably he stalked the lion in the bush before getting in his shot?

So it's possible that the lion (especially after being wounded) could have charged the hunter and killed him.

If the hunter faces the real prospect of death from dangerous quarry, does this make things any different?

There may be a comparison with bull fighting, where the bull does stand a chance of coming out on top and a number of matadors are killed every year.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/07/2015 19:15

Well the But you eat meet card was bound sooner or later I guess but this is not the same thing.
He did not kill the animal because he needed to eat. He stalked and hunted the poor creature. Leaving him to die in agony for 40 hours. Bit of a difference isn't there

mmollytoots · 29/07/2015 19:15

Your correct I don't eat meat.

I don't agree with the killing of course just thought I would put a spin on it because people are contradicting themselves all over Hmm

OP posts:
nellieellie · 29/07/2015 19:17

I'm vegetarian, but it's one thing to eat meat as part of your diet, or yo hunt for meat to eat. Another to think that it's a fun and an enjoyable thing to do, to get your 'servants' to maim an animal so that you, after letting it go through agony, can squeeze a trigger and kill it in triumph, cut its head off and then take a photo of yourself grinning like a f*wit. To delight in causing pain suffering and death. THAT is truly shameful.

What a strange thread.

LadyLuck81 · 29/07/2015 19:20

Of course you are unreasonable.

My eating meat killed as a result of being reared so I could eat it and killing an endangered animal that is going to be a trophy are two completely different things.

The ethics of meat rearing for food are separate from the ethics of big game hunting.

SurlyCue · 29/07/2015 19:21

The guides lured it by dragging a dead animal then came back at night when it was eating and he wounded it with the crossbow. I mean they literally should have tranquillized it and let him take as many shots as he needed Hmm

myusernamewastaken · 29/07/2015 19:22

Im hoping some rich person puts a bounty on the head of the dentist that killed Cecil....I'd love that bastard to be hunted down and killed...

chocolatechip123 · 29/07/2015 19:27

I would love to go on safari and see lions in the wild, doing what lions do. But some rich guy decides he has more rights over everyone else and fancies a new rug.

He was fined before for killing something he shouldn't have.

What is the obsession some (American/blokes) have with weapons and killing critters?

And as for a crossbow - I use a bow (targets nor living things) and think they are sneaky - not so much about power, concentration, strength and stamina, just point and shoot.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/07/2015 19:30

your correct

ah, look at your post, all these uneducated people saying eating meat is ok.
yet you are so educated you are above using grammar correctly

VulcanWoman · 29/07/2015 19:30

I agree with you OP.

Whiskwarrior · 29/07/2015 19:34

Hang on.

People are contradicting themselves.

You're being a hypocrite.

Bit of balance for you there.
