Bedroom door - what about yours?

Random, I know. Do you sleep with your door open or closed? I'm sure years ago I used to have it closed, but after getting a cat, kept it open. Would be so weird for me to have it closed now!

How about you? How about your dcs?

Open. I don't like the idea of a room filling with carbon dioxide and air not circulating!

cigarsofthepharaoh · 24/07/2015 14:55

Door closed. Do all the open doored people close it specifically for sex?

Children's doors have always been ajar, but will rethink this after this thread.

goinggrey1978 · 24/07/2015 16:00

closed and very dark otherwise i can't sleep, as i wake up with any small noise or tiny bit of light!!

hellsbellsmelons · 24/07/2015 16:17

No door for me either (loft room)
But never shut the door (unless for sex) since I had DD.
She used to be able to just get up and get into bed with us without any fuss if the door was open and I wanted her to know she could always access us and not have a closed door.

Totality22 · 24/07/2015 16:20

Ajar, again for the freaking cat!!

None of our doors have door handles (as an aside - does anyone know where I can get nice but not super expensive door handles?) as we've nto got round to buying any!

Cotto · 24/07/2015 16:24

mint

Open the window !Wink

mintpoppet · 24/07/2015 16:27

Cotto, that's how superspiders get in!

Cotto · 24/07/2015 16:27

I don't want to upset or frighten anyone but you can google Youtube Christmas tree fire if you want to.

It shows how a room is engulfed in flames and the smoke fills the room in 45 seconds

Please close all your internal doors - shut the cat downstairs .

Cotto · 24/07/2015 16:29

mint
im not scared of spiders !
Actually you are right though .If the cat comes in my room he goes spider hunting at 4am GrinHmm hence I shut him downstairs

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 24/07/2015 16:34

If I closed the doors, my ds with SNs would get up repeatedly opening them all. He cannot function with them closed. I would have to literally stay up all night closing them again and again. It's unfortunate, but I can only do so much.

intheenddotcom · 24/07/2015 16:39

Don't want to scare you sallying but smoke can make you unconscious before the alarms go off.

Our neighbor had an issue with his chimney which resulted in our living room filling with smoke - the alarm didn't go off. Had it checked - it wasn't faulty just not enough smoke!

Lweji · 24/07/2015 16:50

Door open here, to allow air to circulate.

Yeah, and smoke to circulate too. And carbon monoxide.

fingers crossed for you.

helenahandbag · 24/07/2015 16:59

I've never been able to sleep unless my door was closed ("Properly! Until it clicks!" as I would roar at my parents when they tried to half-arse it Grin) but now I have to keep it closed because the dog sleeps in our bed and if he can get out, he goes out to fetch toys and then barks at us to play in the middle of the night Hmm

mintpoppet · 24/07/2015 17:18

''Fingers crossed for you.''

Really? You do realise house fires are uncommon. I know they can happen but it's not like they are spontaneously breaking out right, left and centre.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 24/07/2015 17:22

We have teens. Their doors are closed. My door is propped open an inch or so (for the cat), if the cat is out, the door is fully closed.

NobodyLivesHere · 24/07/2015 17:22

Mine is closed. Kids depend on if they get up to pee and shut them behind themselves or not.

treaclesoda · 24/07/2015 18:00

Alice, it is much the same in our house. Although it isn't that our child has SN, it is a severe phobia. If someone can cure the phobia I would love to have all the doors shut.

Sallyingforth · 24/07/2015 18:04

Have you done an escape rehearsal, at night
Better than that. We did the real thing once when the alarms went off! (long story :( )

Yeah, and smoke to circulate too. And carbon monoxide.
That's why we have smoke and CO detectors.

bec3105 · 24/07/2015 18:24

Dd14 door closed
Ds9&10 door open
Me and dh door ajar always used to be open so we could hear the kids at night but now that's not an issue

VelmaD · 24/07/2015 19:07

Mines opposite. Always had it open a little bit, until we got a cat and now it's shut!

Icedfinger · 24/07/2015 19:54

Open, but just a crack! DD is 2 and can push it open.

morelikeguidelines · 24/07/2015 19:57

Open because of dcs (little one is 18 months).

Used to be a closed door person before dcs.

thugmansion · 24/07/2015 21:24

I think the rules for this must be set very early on in life when you first start to co-habit or get married. Ours has always been doors open, lights on, TVs/consoles/music on at any hour anyone liked, sleep where you dropped and so that is the norm for us. Silence and darkness would feel like death to me but if that is your rule then live and let live. It's whatever you are happy with.

MrsBigginsPieShop · 24/07/2015 21:25

Ds's door closed on second floor (safety). Our door open on third floor (anxiety). Fire doors throughout so we should shut then all but don't. Half and half.

Purplepoodle · 24/07/2015 21:27

Closed as too bright otherwise (and I keep thinking I see things in the door way if open)
