Bedroom door - what about yours?

Random, I know. Do you sleep with your door open or closed? I'm sure years ago I used to have it closed, but after getting a cat, kept it open. Would be so weird for me to have it closed now!

How about you? How about your dcs?

Those saying its a fire safety thing, I'd rather have it open in that case, so that at least I'd know there was a fire before it took hold.

The idea that the hall and stairs could be raging but we're all locked in our separate rooms scares the life out of me!

If you leave the door open, you'll die from the smoke before you realise there is a fire.

Being locked in the room is the best thing if your stairs are on fire.

Make sure you get a decent fire alarm, though.

Open, unless DTD.

So, your kids know when you are DTD? Grin

Closed - for fire safety
Also means you can keep the room dark
It's less noisy if someone else is moving around / getting in late / going to the loo / getting up early
Helps keep moths / flies / wasps / other annoying things out the room

Open for the cat here too!!
We used to shut it and they ripped up the carpet outside our door. So, um, yeah, it stays open. Barely though. I like it closed tbh, I feel safer.

Closed because of the cat! He likes to sleep on my head when he manages to slip into the room in the middle of the night.

All doors open in our house. At all times.
Apart from the kitchen door to keep down cooking noises and smells.
And the toilet door (separate to the bathroom) when the room is in use if I can get DD2 to do this it will be a miracle
Bathroom door is nearly always open too. People just draw the shower curtain across for privacy.

Ajar for the cat to squeeze through. Although I think I'd prefer it closed. If I have a nap in the day time I close it and it feels much quieter and cosier.

Mark the majority of doors in home interiors have a 30minute burn time. I think it's actually a requirement in social housing. So a child on the other side of that door has an extra 30 minutes before they're in any real danger providing that door stays shut.

Can you tell there's a fire fighter in my family? Smile

Open, with door stop, for the cat.

My DDs have always liked theirs shut.

Small house with fire alarms, I'm in a HA house and the doors wouldn't take 30 mins to burn.

I thought that about mine Birds but had the fire service out to assess and was surprised when they said they will. It's worth having them out to check.

The smoke, though is the biggest killer. A shut door will reduce the amount of smoke going in the room, adding even more survival time.

I would prefer the doors to be closed but I have a child whose claustrophobia is so severe that not only do they feel unable to be in a room with the door closed, they go into panic mode if I am in a room with the door shut, just in case I can't get out again. It is exhausting.

Open for the dog here. He sleeps in the spare room (his choice), but he's a scavenger, so occasionally needs to go out in the middle of the night if he's eaten something disgusting out on a walk.

Open (unfortunately!). If it is closed I have to keep 'pumping' the faulty handle for the door to open, so for safety's sake it's left ajar which does nothing for our privacy => nothing for our sex life. Pah to all you cat owners! 3 DC's and open bedroom door..... I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions Grin

I'm all for open, DH likes it closed. We compromise and have it ajar! No kids and dogs sleep downstairs but having it closed freaks me out.

Closed. Find it impossible to sleep with the door open. Get spooked out! Not permanently closed though, I have demanding cats that meow at each side of the door a good dozen times before they settle down, so constantly reaching over the bed to open/ shut the door until they finally settle down!

Why not just shut the door for privacy? Seems like the obvious solution.

Always open, as is dds. We only close them for the purpose of getting changed if other people are here. Same for the bathroom door, that's only closed when other people are here too.

Closed as much as possible. The doors don't stay shut so end up being about a cm or two open.

Closed. It's a fire door that closes by itself anyway

Closed. I keep my windows open for ventilation but windows always closed

The joys of having a firefighter brother (just don't tell him I charge my mobile overnight)
