to be excited about my first cosplay and comic con next month

After following friends and seeing pictures on FB of people at LFCC I feel like now is the time to stop wishing I was somewhere like that and to just go. They all looked like they were having so much fun.

DD1 is very much into the idea and is just as excited as me.

DD2 is also talking about it a lot, but at 3YO Im not entirely sure she has the same idea as what to expect as DD1 has.

Its only a cheap one we are going to (nowhere near the expense of London), but I seem to be spending quite a bit on costumes for the 3 of us. A couple of quid here, a fiver there, a tenner next is all adding up. Im still excited about it.

Funnily enough DH is the big comic geek in this house. He has comics put on hold in his shop, he has to get onto Ebay on a Wednesday to buy his comic. They are all bagged and boarded and filed away neatly. Yet he is so not interested in mine and my daughters plans for next month.

Anyone else go to these things? What can I expect?

Lots of fab costumes, lots of people, great atmosphere, lots to take pics of and temptation to spend LOADS of money on memorabilia. Drinks & snacks are usually expensive.

If your LO dresses up they're likely to be made a fuss of. Smile

iklboo · 21/07/2015 20:59

Who / what are you going as?

iklboo · 21/07/2015 21:00

As if your name isn't a giveaway!

ImCatbug · 21/07/2015 21:03

I love dressing up and going to conventions, been doing it for 10 years!
The costumes do add up in cost, yes, but it's so worth it when you actually get there and show it off!

WhyStannisWhy · 21/07/2015 21:05

Love conventions! We're going to Wales Comic Con. Can't decide whether to do Arkham City Harley Quinn or family cosplay with DP and DD.

EastMidsMummy · 21/07/2015 21:08

YABU if you are any older than about 12.

I knew there would be at least one person who doesn't get it Grin though we are all into different things.

iklboo no Im not going as HQ, not yet anyway. Maybe if I decide it is my thing then maybe then. This is just a small one to find out if its for me.

My DD's are both dressing up too. We are all random things, nothing together. Though DD2 just wants to be Olaf.

Have fun!

EastMidsMummy · 21/07/2015 21:15

I love ComicCons. I don't dress up though. Dd does, as Roman Torchwich.

Funnily enough, I've just put 'Paul' on.

The Newcastle one is brilliant. I love the talks.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 21/07/2015 21:23

temptation to spend LOADS of money on memorabilia

We nearly went to the Newcastle one last year, but we talked ourselves out of going. If York goes well then I might take DD1 to Newcastle.

I didn't finish what I was saying (too busy looking for parts of my costume online too)

temptation to spend LOADS of money on memorabilia is my main worry. So Im taking very little with me so I dont blow it all.

EastMids - at Comicons there's hardly anyone UNDER 12.

YouTheCat · 21/07/2015 21:29

There's one on the cards for November but there's only two guests so far and one of them is Colin Baker, who has cancelled the last two years.

The March one this year was great.

These are a few pics from last year.

Good call. We had a strict budget. We could have spent hundreds if we'd had it. We're ALL geeks in this house. Wink

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 21/07/2015 21:30

ComCon - not unreasonable.

Adults dressing up as sci-fi/game/cartoon characters, very unreasonable in my opinion. It just all looks silly, like children who have forgotten it's not Halloween. However, just because it's not my idea of fun, of course I'm sure you and your daughters will have a great time as it seems your thing.

YouTheCat · 21/07/2015 21:31

And this happened:

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2015 21:33

Dd is 17 and goes to 1 local and collectamania she loves it she feels she is with her people Grin

EastMidsMummy · 21/07/2015 21:37

Unreasonable Girl wears naice knitwear a school run dress and judgy pants.

rosesanddaisies · 21/07/2015 22:15

SistersofPercy · 21/07/2015 23:27

Ooh how very dull life would be of we all liked the same thing.
DH, dd and I all Cosplay, often for charity. This is us at an event last month with a couple of friends ....

I take my DS to lots of these - there are Minicons practically every weekend if you look for them. Which we do Smile

We have a big Comic Con coming to Bournemouth next month - can't wait! Fingers crossed it goes well so we can have it back every year.
