After following friends and seeing pictures on FB of people at LFCC I feel like now is the time to stop wishing I was somewhere like that and to just go. They all looked like they were having so much fun.

DD1 is very much into the idea and is just as excited as me.

DD2 is also talking about it a lot, but at 3YO Im not entirely sure she has the same idea as what to expect as DD1 has.

Its only a cheap one we are going to (nowhere near the expense of London), but I seem to be spending quite a bit on costumes for the 3 of us. A couple of quid here, a fiver there, a tenner next is all adding up. Im still excited about it.

Funnily enough DH is the big comic geek in this house. He has comics put on hold in his shop, he has to get onto Ebay on a Wednesday to buy his comic. They are all bagged and boarded and filed away neatly. Yet he is so not interested in mine and my daughters plans for next month.

Anyone else go to these things? What can I expect?

I thought cosplay was a sex thing. You learn something new every day

Mrsjayy · 22/07/2015 08:35

sistersofpercy are you darth did you have your own music Grin

Notso · 22/07/2015 08:48

DS1 really wants to go to one of those comic things. I am reluctant because people in masks actually scare me.

Mrsjayy · 22/07/2015 08:51

What age is he can you send him in with a friend and pick them up

Bicarb · 22/07/2015 09:05

Expect there to be a LOT of Harley Quinns.

Notso · 22/07/2015 09:09

He's 10 but none of his friends are really into it as much as him. I'm hoping he meets someone in secondary!

steppedonlego · 22/07/2015 09:15

Ah! I'm jealous! You're all going to have a wonderful time!

Sighing · 22/07/2015 09:28

I make costumes (sometimes) for my cosplaying friends. It's easy to spend big time. I advise improving a costume over time gor different events. Not that I can do that. I have many costumes!

There are a couple in Sheffield next month Officer. One at Magna and one at the arean. DD is going to both.

Bunbaker · 22/07/2015 09:38

The arena. D'oh!

Haha no mrsjay, I'm one of the stormtroopers. Darth is fab, he's the same height as Dave prowse as well so people tend to stop and stare when he walks into a room.

There will be a few harleys, but from experience most will be different and I suspect most in the up coming cons will be the new margot Robbie Harley. That is the nice thing about that particular character, there are so many versions to portray.

Mrsjayy · 22/07/2015 10:30

notso I am sure your son will to quote another mumsnetter they find their tribe at secondary school give it a couple of years he will be dressing up as the doctor like the rest of them, sistersofpercy so wanted you to be darth do you go all over or just your area comic cons?

Bombaybunty · 22/07/2015 10:36

I've just given my DS tickets to one in London for his 13th birthday.

He is very excited.

SistersofPercy · 22/07/2015 10:59

We go all over Mrsjay. The photo I posted was from a private party but we do everything from cons to car shows and local fetes. We've usually got collecting buckets out and raise money for kids charities mostly. Next month we are doing a small local fun day for a local children's hospice. We just turn up, high five lots of small people and generally have a ball.
You'd be amazed how many people ask to take photos of us with their dogs as well!

SistersofPercy · 22/07/2015 11:02

Oh, and for the Harley lovers, heres DD at a con last year Smile

YANBU! I was at LFCC over the weekend, and have attended for the last couple of years. We didn't cosplay this year as work has been manic, but I really want to get prepared for next year!

Enjoy and remember to share pictures with us!

Notso · 22/07/2015 11:12

Here's hoping MrsJayy or I will just have to get dressed up myself, preferably as something with very dark glasses so I can't see anything.

We're going to Manchester ComicCon on Saturday. Ds2 (12) is very into comics (I blame Big Bang Theory) and has been to Telford and Birmingham this year.

He's going as Heath Ledger's Joker in a home made costume: purple trousers from EBay, shirt and tie from charity shops, and we're awaiting the arrival of a white lab coat from EBay so I can dye it purple for him. He's practised his makeup and it's looking good.

Ds3 (8) will be either Darth Vader or a ghost pirate from Scooby Doo, not decided yet. Ds1 (14) is going but not in costume, and I am far too old and fat to dress up so will be going as Myself.

They are great fun and there's a brilliant atmosphere, with everyone being very supportive of each other's costumes. Ds3 was a dimiutive Darth Vader at Birmingham and some adult Stormtroopers saluted him as he strolled past - it totally made his day.

There are some "intetesting" people around (the scowling, chubby, bearded, 50+ man wedged into a kids' Dalek outfit being notable), but it's all very fun and "live and let live". I quite enjoy them but I don't let the Dcs know this as I need to let them think I'm doing them a great favour by accompanying them Wink.
