to think nearly all the mums I see are bottle feeding?

Not judging those who can't breastfeed but when taking my new born out the past 3 months I've only seen one other mum breastfeeding. Are you all hiding? Smile

Nope- it's about 50/50 where I am!

NotQuiteCockney · 18/07/2015 15:21

Rates vary quite a bit by region.

LokiBear · 18/07/2015 15:22

Yabu. Most of the new mums I see are breastfeeding. Out of my social circle I don't know any new mums who haven't breastfed for a time. Some only for a few weeks but they still breastfed.

grabaspoon · 18/07/2015 15:22

I am a nanny so will often be spotted out bottle feeding the young baby however if my boss was there then she'd be breast feeding.

badtime · 18/07/2015 15:23

Interesting choice of words, OP. Are you judging people who could breastfeed but choose not to, for whatever reason?

WorraLiberty · 18/07/2015 15:24

So good of you to judge those who can't. I'm sure they'll be very grateful Grin

What about those who don't want to?

Goshthatsspicy · 18/07/2015 15:24

Well, have you considered they might have expressed the milk?
Plot thickens.... Wink

BeautifulLiar · 18/07/2015 15:25

Same here. I never see anyone in my age group breastfeeding.

prettywhiteguitar · 18/07/2015 15:26

Maybe they are all eating cake at home feeding their babies

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 18/07/2015 15:26

Why is this a problem for you OP? You do what you want and let others get on with what they want. No biggie.

Goshthatsspicy · 18/07/2015 15:27

My mum doesn't breastfed either, however she is 73. Grin

prettywhiteguitar · 18/07/2015 15:27

I have fed in ikea, gym, beach and camping and seen others

Bellebella · 18/07/2015 15:28

They might be expressing, I only fed my son via the breast for a little while. The rest of the time I expressed, I found it much easier for me and ds.

That and some people may not feel comfortable feeding in front of people, I know plenty who choose to go into a feeding room or somewhere quiet and discreet. Or simply people choose not to breastfeed.

There could be plenty of reasons.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 18/07/2015 15:29

What's unreasonable about you seeing babies fed from a bottle?

arethereanyleftatall · 18/07/2015 15:29

Round my way, most breast feed.

53rdAndBird · 18/07/2015 15:30

Most babies in the UK are ff or mix fed by 3 months, so YAprobablyNBU. But some women also feel awkward about bfing while out and about, too, so maybe some of them are hiding!

formerbabe · 18/07/2015 15:31

Who cares anyway?!

newmumma2015 · 18/07/2015 15:31

I mention it because it would be nice to have some extra support. Not judging anyone who can't or choose not to. I live in Scotland and mid wife told me breastfeeding numbers have dropped dramatically. Nice to know its more common to see in other areas. Makes me less worried about feeding in public.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 18/07/2015 15:32

Nip over to the breast feeding board, you'll get support there.

WorraLiberty · 18/07/2015 15:32

Are there no support groups?

I'm not sure a stranger feeding in the park/local cafe would automatically support you.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/07/2015 15:34

Plenty of people BF without taking the baby out of a sling. They could be everywhere and you'd never know. Also, mixed feeding...

DonkeyOaty · 18/07/2015 15:34

Your HV could prob signpost you to RL groups

(not sure what you are being reasonable or unreasonable about tbh)

formerbabe · 18/07/2015 15:36

I breastfed for a bit but only at home...always bottle fed whilst out and about.

RunningJumpingClimbingTrees · 18/07/2015 15:38

I fed in public a lot and saw a lot of others doing it. I'm in edinburgh....don't know if is near you but there are good bf support groups here. I don't really do it in public anymore because dd only has 2 or 3 feeds a day now she is weaned amd spends her days gobbling spaghetti etc

53rdAndBird · 18/07/2015 15:39

I also felt a bit awkward about breastfeeding when it felt like everyone else around me was bottle feeding, tbh. It faded as time went on though - I am a lot less self-conscious about it now.
