To think MN is getting nastier?

So far this week we've had giving birth referred to as 'calving' (in the context of women having children while young). Someone loved that one so much they immediately commented on what a great expression it was and repeated it.

We've had someone propose that Prince Phillip should be 'humanely destroyed'. swiftly followed up by a similar suggestion about taking him out to a barn or a shed or some such and shooting him.

We've had a thread about the death of a convicted murdered where several posters queued up to tell us they were, smiling or "laughing gleefully" or simply to post "lol" as a one word comment. (Okay she was a vicious killer and will not be much missed, but really?)

Add to all of that the Budget threads where in the midst of people worrying and calculating the cut to their household budget, other people came to gloat and make helpful observations such as "If you can't afford DC, don't have them."

MN didn't used to be nasty. Vigorous, challenging etc; But not nasty.

What's going on around here?

Baddz, the posters that post that kind of vile shit are not here for any other reason than to be cunts.

They are not Mumsnetters. They are just here to get off on upsetting people.

It's trolling. Best ignored. I know it's hard but they want a reaction.

mrsruffallo · 20/07/2015 17:59

Is it my life on mars thread sunsetseaside?

Baddz · 20/07/2015 18:00

I don't go on many topics on mn anymore.
I like the "safe" places!

Sunsetseaside · 20/07/2015 18:02

No, haven't seen that one mrs :)

Baddz · 20/07/2015 18:03

I have to say I was genuinely shocked by what happened to Laqueen.
I liked her posts....who cares if she was a hairy handed trucker from Glasgow in reality?
Some posters actively tried to out her.
Awful.

Baddz · 20/07/2015 18:05

I have had such great support from posters on mn - especially in the last 2 years which have beeen The worst of my life - it makes me sad that other posters aren't seeing that side of mn or are being scared off like chipping.

Baddz · 20/07/2015 18:06

...on a lighter note...
My Dh ate a fatball thread, anyone?
:)
I laughed til I cried

mrsruffallo · 20/07/2015 18:06

I am usually on chat these days. I have had my share of conflicts on here, some my fault I am sure, but have mellowed over the years!

limitedperiodonly · 20/07/2015 18:36

There's a foul post doing the rounds on chat. Led by one poster who is ALWAYS present when there's a scrap.

This is the kind of thing I hate about this kind of thread.

Have you either challenged or reported it Sunsetseaside?

Perhaps you have, and if so, I apologise for singling you out. It's not personal but it's an indication of how these threads always descend into 'she was horrid' which might mean the person was a thoroughgoing cunt, misguided or just had a different POV to you.

I'm quite sure that I've been viewed as a thoroughgoing cunt.

I'd prefer it if someone challenged me on the thread.

I'd usually say I'm not, because I'm bullheaded like that and feel justified because I tend to post about things I know about rather than wading in.

But sometimes I have a different POV or make mistakes that I'd prefer people attempted to engage rather than automatically adding me to their Spreadsheet Of Hate.

Sometimes I'll say: 'Yeah, you're right. I didn't think of it that way. Sorry about that. I was mistaken or misjudged the tone of the thread.'

I don't always like it if someone pulls me up and sometimes stay away for a while licking my wounds and considering my response. I always come back though.

That response might be very rude. But sometimes not.

If all else fails, there's nothing wrong with having a Spreadsheet of Hate btw.

I'd call it a Hating Book because I'm Old Skool and my hero was the scabrous, skewer-wielding dwarf reporter Hitmouse from the Uncle books

Sadly some bitche nabbed the NN Hitmouse before I joined MN.

Recent thread, where the OP was immediately flamed to within an inch of her life, when I don't think her OP was that different from certain other posts on here which attract a lot more sympathy and "hear hear".

Evidence that MN is becoming nastier, methinks. Woe betide anyone who starts a thread without knowing the unwritten rules of MN.

usualsuspect333 · 20/07/2015 18:45

I can usually be found in the midst of a scrap Grin

But I've only posted on this thread and one other today.

mrsruffallo · 20/07/2015 18:47

Scraping is fine. I should know. I just can't get worked up anymore!

usualsuspect333 · 20/07/2015 18:49

I wasn't scraping on the other thread. I was troll hunting being supportive.

limitedperiodonly · 20/07/2015 18:56

I was genuinely shocked by what happened to Laqueen. I liked her posts

That's your opinion Baddz

It's not everyone else's.

That's the wonder of MN.

Baddz · 20/07/2015 19:02

I just wonder at posters who go out of their way to try and out someone irl.
I think it's a really strange thing to want to do.

But, yes, that's only my opinion.
I have known posters hounded off mn sn.
It's bullying. Plain and simple.
And it's allowed to go on because mn don't police the boards fairly.
I don't envy them the job, but it's inconsistent at best.

Baddz · 20/07/2015 19:04

Anyway....must go and interact with the DC.

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/07/2015 19:06

But that isn't what happened is it? I thought she gave away a bit too much information about something her husband had done, massively regretted it and as a result had MNHQ delete all her posts.

I don't think they're in the habit of deleting a poster's 'back catalogue' so she was actually given preferential treatment.

Baddz · 20/07/2015 19:09

I think prior to that people had "tracked her down" to her workplace and said she couldn't live where she claimed to?
All very odd.
I just didn't care.
So what if she fibbed a bit?
I could be pippa Middleton for all you know! :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/07/2015 19:10

I think these threads run the risk of getting nasty themselves as people air their personal grudges.

It's far better IMO if people address nastiness on threads and confront it when they see it.

CoogerAndDark · 20/07/2015 19:13

Yep. There's some thread-trailing spitey shite on here for sure.

Baddz · 20/07/2015 19:13

I agree fanjo.
I suppose if one feels the Way the op does the logical reaction would be to cut down on mn use or de Reg.
Shame, though.

YouTheCat · 20/07/2015 19:14

I don't do grudges.

I might strongly disagree with someone on one thread (pretty sure I've disagreed with Fanjo many a time) and then wholeheartedly agree with them on another.

The only posters I have a problem with are the ones with a very clear agenda who turn up only on some thread topics and are just there to goad. Those ones I make a mental note of and then report every time they behave like twats. I don't see that as grudge holding though - I see that as a public service. Grin

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/07/2015 19:15

Baddz I know you're actually Kate! Pippa is just a red herring.
