Child at theme park the other day? What do you think? We raised our eyebrows and probably initially eye rolled. Or is Zebedee obviously giong to be a cool cat? Guess Zee has a certain ring to it.

Zebedee is actually an approximation to the Hebrew name Zebadiah, actually, Birds, and there was nothing whatsoever racist about what I said. I don't think a single person on this thread has said that it's a made up name, either.

A previous poster said that for her Ambrose and Zebedee were perfectly ordinary, run of the mill names. I was surprised by that. It's got nothing whatsoever to do with ethnicity, probably a lot more to do with class and personality and age. I personally have never met a person called Zebedee and I can only recall one Ambrose who would be in his mid 50s now.

Ambrose was popular in the 30s or thereabouts, I think. Friend's cat is called Zebedee Grin

I'm a female who goes by Zebbie, short for Zebedee, 95% of the time....but that is a nickname derived from the name of a cat, who was named after the Magic Roundabout character.
No-one says 'boing' to Zebbie, although they do very occasionally try to lengthen it again to Zeborah (like 'Debbie', I guess), which unfortunately sounds like the stripy horse...

Ambrose is a proper name. it's the name of a Catholic saint from the 1500s too.

Isn't it Zebediah in the bible.....?

I've heard far worse names and I'd rather be called Zebedee than Dave or John. Zeb is quite nice really!

There was a girl in my class called Zippy.
Zebedee is better.

Also I'm in my mid twenties and I grew up watching the magic roundabout so his parents won't be too young to remember!

My DD has a Zebedee in her class, his Dad is a Vicar so I'm assuming it's a biblical reference rather than a TV show

If I had to choose either Zebedee or Nevaeh for my child, I would go for Zeb every time.

I know one. Goes by zeb but mum calls him by long form very loudly and in every sentence.

The parents are both 'wannabe' cool - they are very nice on their own but when in a group with contrasting 'cool' people they he really nervous trying to agree with both and totally contradicting themselves!

I don't mind the name though. There is another boy called Ziggy. I find that weirder but he totally suits it - he has hair like sideshow bob!!

Do you think all of the people on this thread who know vicars with sons called Zebedee actually all know the same vicar?

I don't get the pearl clutching either. There's no such thing as a 'proper' name. All names are made up and people attach rubbish to them such as 'it means God's wingman' or something.

A name made up 2000 years ago doesn't beat a name made up last year.

It's not 'pearl-clutching', it's light-hearted, fgs!

'Why does anyone care what other people call their children?'
Because you imagine a child suffering their whole life with a silly name like Toyota. They're named after a car! Yes I know Mercedes is a real name.
I'm not saying Zebedee is a silly name, btw.

I hope the mercedes, porshe, toyota is a troll. I know mercedes is fairly well known but porshe and toyota?

Do you reakon its cars the kids were conceived in? Maybe it wasn't a good time between porshe and toyota...
