Child at theme park the other day? What do you think? We raised our eyebrows and probably initially eye rolled. Or is Zebedee obviously giong to be a cool cat? Guess Zee has a certain ring to it.

My DH really liked it until I pointed out we have a 5 syllable surname and it would be rather long to say together. We had a girl fortunately.

PeppaWellington · 14/07/2015 11:06

Zeb is a cool name.

I know an Ayrton. Maybe one day he and Senna will meet and marry and have little cars together.

I suppose it's been a long time since The Magic Roundabout was on TV, so his classmates will likely be completely unaware of that connection.

But it's the first thing that springs into my mind.

manicinsomniac · 14/07/2015 11:22

Oh, I quite like it.

I know one (though, thinking about it, he might be a Zebediah) who has a sister called Zipporah.

Known as Zeb and Zip - I think it's cute!

But yes - vicar's children.

We went to school with a guy who's parents were obsessed with magic roundabout and his name was 'Zebdylan' his middle name was 'moon' he was the loveliest guy and never got teased. But it was a massively made it up name

DonnaKebab66 · 14/07/2015 11:27

A friend of a friend named their child Zebedee. I immediately think 'Boing' too. Though Dylan and Florence are trendy without the same comparisons.. I love the name Dylan but a bit 'meh' about Florence.

debbietheduck · 14/07/2015 11:29

Could be worse. At least it is an actual name.

I met a two year old Ambrose at the weekend. I was startled, but I think I covered it up OK Grin

PercyGherkin · 14/07/2015 11:32

When DD was in NICU, the next baby along was called Zebedee. I particularly liked that when they'd had to do something to him they would always leave him with "Time for bed, Zebedee".

PinkSquash · 14/07/2015 11:33

I know a Zebedee, a Senna and an Ayrton. Grin

PinkSquash · 14/07/2015 11:34

Grin at Time for bed, Zebedee

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2015 11:35

YANBU

Biblical it may be but it's in a whole different league to the usual Biblical names.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2015 11:37

Dylan has a lot more associations than the Magic Roundabout though! So does Florence. For me the one and only assocation Zebedee has is the Magic Roundabout. It's a very positive association, though!

TheMoa · 14/07/2015 11:38

debbietheduck Ambrose is a perfectly ordinary boy's name!

I'm beginning to thing I must move in weird circles.

I might be a bit amused if a child was named 'keyboard' or something, but really, Zebedee, Ambrose etc. are all perfectly ordinary, run of the mill names, surely?

pot39 · 14/07/2015 11:42

It's cool, although Dylan was cooler!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/07/2015 11:43

John, James, Charles, David, George, Peter, Jack, Daniel, Benjamin, Sam, Thomas, William, Robert, Joshua, Henry, Harry, Jacob, Oliver, Max - these are perfectly ordinary, run of the mill names in my world.

Ambrose and Zebedee aren't.

Not that it matters.

Birdsgottafly · 14/07/2015 11:43

Is this going to turn into the usual Racist piss take, because posters seem to not anyone who is in anyway different to them.

Both Zebedee (Greek) and Ambrose are both legitimate names.

At least google before citing a name as "made up" or "out there".

Zebedee74 · 14/07/2015 11:45

I love it...

Birdsgottafly · 14/07/2015 11:47

""These are perfectly ordinary, run of the mill names in my world.""

Perhaps in your area, but not "your World", unless you just discount anyone who isn't just like you and your friends/family.

RachelRagged · 14/07/2015 11:48

lolllll

Takes me way back to being a bored teen . .Phone box round corner, had phone books in them in those days.. Yep we found a Mr Zebedee and drove the poor bloke nuts ,, ringing and saying "BOING Time for Bed" > He went ex directory in the end haha

dillite · 14/07/2015 11:51

Ooooh, I have been waiting for a weird name thread since Easter Half term! We went to a craft activith at the half term. There was a woman with 2 daughters and a son- Mercedes, Porsche (saw the spelling on a sheet of paper) anf Toyota. O was half hoping for a Ford Focus to roll up at some point.

dillite · 14/07/2015 11:54

It should say Porshe not Porsche.

Bambambini · 14/07/2015 11:55

OfficerVanHalen. "It's a real actual name, and no skin off your nose I assume op, so why do you care?"

I don't particularly care, i actually didn't know it was a real name. Seemed like right up there if i heard someone shout, "Bagpuss, get in for your dinner" or "Maccapacca, stop whacking your brother".

And Ambrose is not an ordinary name.

There's nothing wrong with Zebedee.

Time for bed!
