Using a wheelie bin for dog poo - unreasonable?

Snowballschanceinhell · 06/07/2015 21:04

I'm willing to be told I'm being unreasonable here. I've just been shouted at by a woman for putting my poo bag (very small, my dog is a pug so doesn't produce much waste!) in her wheelie bin.

I live in a residential area, not many bins on the street, plenty of wheelie bins right next to the pavement (it's not like I walked down her driveway or anything) so I quite often just pop it in the nearest one to me as it saves walking for the next 30 mins holding a bag of shit.

Who is being unreasonable?

I would never do this! I thought you were going to say your own wheelie bin. I wouldn't like someone putting their dogs shit in my bin, even though my own dog's is in there.

GobblersKnob · 07/07/2015 11:02

Your bin is not your property it is the property of the local authority and for the disposal of rubbish.

oddfodd · 07/07/2015 11:03

honeyroar - that would be fine by me. I pick up the empty cans/bottles that kindly teenagers jam into my hedge and put them in my recycling bin so you'd save me a job. Cans and bottles are not bags of poo :o

Love the idea of the dog carrying it - unfortunately mine would try to eat it, dirty decker!

Fecker not decker!

Oldraver · 07/07/2015 11:06

I have a hatred of maggots and do my best to avoid them. The wheelie bin is cleaned and not used for food so I would not be happy someone chucking shit in it.

Honey I think there is a bit of difference between dog poo and recylable goods. Though it is possible the owners may not want their bins used

Queenmarigold · 07/07/2015 11:10

Oh that's disgusting. YABU.
You decided to own a dog, god knows why they are stinking germ ridden fleabags so be responsible and look after it. That involves putting it's repulsive bags in the correct waste bin, and it's relevant what kind of breed or how much 'waste' it produces. Then you can go home and have it sitting on you, sitting on your sofa and your floor. Nice.

The bin may belong to the council, but it is definitely for the householder's rubbish, hence why the council may enforce rules about the quantity and type of rubbish that will be collected and whether it needs to be bagged.

HamishBamish · 07/07/2015 11:17

YABU to use someone else's private bin. It's your dog, carry it's poo home!

Queenmarigold · 07/07/2015 11:40

Not nasty, just truthful. Disgusting animals.

findingmyfeet12 · 07/07/2015 11:42

I haven't read the thread but I can't believe that anyone would be so removed from reality as to think this is acceptable.

When people do things like this it makes me wonder what other liberties they're taking on a daily basis.

As a dog walker, it would be great to just be able to put the poo in the nearest bin but I've never been brave enough to do it (apart from in one person's bin who has told me they don't mind).

Queenmarigold you may want to stop reading here as I think the next bit will be too much for you.

I put the bagged up poo in my coat pocket and then put it in my bin when I get home. Today I had 4 bags in there for an hour. Not particularly pleasant but I cope. I always joke to people that it keeps my hands warm on a cold day (when actually I always wear gloves rather than put my hands in there).

SideOrderofChips · 07/07/2015 11:58

YABU i wouldn't want to be smelling your dogs shit everytime i wanted to put something in my own bin!

MessedUpWheelieBin · 07/07/2015 12:08

We're social housing. There's increasing resentment to our existence, smelly bins and fly's are one of many hot topics.

Bin men here only take black sacks out. Anything loose is left. I'm (substantially) disabled and it's difficult enough to clean my wheelie bin, (though I always have) and takes me a lot longer than 30 mins each week.

It’s particularly miserable when I’m having to deal with nasty stuff people have dumped on me as easier than dealing with themselves.

It's a constant uphill struggle to ensure my circumstances affect neighbours's as little as possible and reduce their right to pick on me.

People can choose to add to other people's often hidden problems, or not, by the choices they make. Dealing with your own dog poo's an easy one.

(ps my name's co incidental to this thread! Smile

specialsubject · 07/07/2015 12:21

everything that lives excretes. This is not against dogs, it is against their owners. if you want to keep a dog, clean up after it and yes, if necessary carry the poo around with you.

same as you do with a baby until you can find a SUITABLE bin for the nappy. And really, same as you yourself do - you wait until there is a convenient point for excreta disposal.

mousmous · 07/07/2015 12:23

yabu
use your own bin or get rid of the dog

bishboschone · 07/07/2015 12:26

Very very unreasonable .. That's just gross .. Who gives a shit if you have to carry it for half an hour .. You chose to have a dog !!!

SayThisOnlyOnce · 07/07/2015 12:37

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I don't care if my bin smells, I don't ever sniff it. I don't care if it is dirty as I don't need it to be clean.

Can't believe people can be so precious over a bin.

I don't have a dog but maybe I will get some sort of 'I

muminhants1 · 07/07/2015 12:40

YABU. People get fined for having the wrong thing in their bin. Please take it home - your dog, your rubbish!

mousmous · 07/07/2015 13:01

oh and I used to live in a country were the rubbish disposal was billed by weight. other people putting something else in would have seriously pissed me off.

bishboschone · 07/07/2015 13:04

But sometimes ( read often ) I've lost stuff and have to go down the bin to look for it . The last thing I want is to put my hands in dog shit !
