Using a wheelie bin for dog poo - unreasonable?

Snowballschanceinhell · 06/07/2015 21:04

I'm willing to be told I'm being unreasonable here. I've just been shouted at by a woman for putting my poo bag (very small, my dog is a pug so doesn't produce much waste!) in her wheelie bin.

I live in a residential area, not many bins on the street, plenty of wheelie bins right next to the pavement (it's not like I walked down her driveway or anything) so I quite often just pop it in the nearest one to me as it saves walking for the next 30 mins holding a bag of shit.

Who is being unreasonable?

OP posts:

my dh occasionally puts poo bags in other wheelie bins, i don't and won't...just feels a bit rude to me (and i'd be scared of someone coming out and telling me off!)

i can sort of see both sides...if you happen to live somewhere with lots of passing dog walkers and your wheelie bin gets lots of poo bags i can see it'd be v v annoying, but the odd one probably doesn't hurt Confused

whois · 06/07/2015 21:27

Thats disgusting, you dirty thing. Carry your dog's shit in your pocket and put it in your own bin!

paxtecum · 06/07/2015 21:28

I put bagged dog poo in an ordinary street rubbish bin the other day and wondered if I was BU by not looking for a dog poo bin.
I would never put anything in anyone else's bin.
They are not public property.

poocatcherchampion · 06/07/2015 21:29

My mum put the bag in my kitchen bin. I was gobsmacked. But I wimped out of telling her no. Just pre warned dh so he could empty it PDQ.
Bleugh

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 21:29

I really don't see the big deal. It's a bin, it's meant to have rubbish placed in it. Dog poo is rubbish.

BoomBoomsCousin · 06/07/2015 21:30

I don't put any rubbish in anybody else's wheelie bin because I would expect it to annoy people. I think it's a petty thing to get riled up about (assuming small quanities, properly bagged, in the right bin) and I wouldn't mind if you put your dog poo in my bin. But sadly I don't think it's generally considered acceptable.

This imo is a fucked if you do, fucked if you don't situation..
People complain dog owners don't pick up dog poo.. but then complain when those who do use bins..
Dog poo does smell but then so do bins generally.. I'd rather a stinky bin then dogshit on my shoes/pram/car mat etc etc.
I have 3 dogs and depending on where we walk, bring dog poo back home or put it into the nearest bin and I honestly wouldn't have expected any drama from binning it whilst out, and I've never had any drama - plenty of people have commented to say its nice to see it being picked up so I'm obviously in some parallel universe!
Can recommend dickie bags for carrying poo on walks

SnapesCapes · 06/07/2015 21:32

I don't think it's as bad as some are making out, but I wouldn't put our dog's poops anywhere but the dog poo bins or our own big bin. No idea why, I suppose I assume others wouldn't like it.

PuckyMup · 06/07/2015 21:33

What a dog eats def impacts smell too .. cheap food = disgusting poo

exLtEveDallasNoBollocks · 06/07/2015 21:33

Pax, I've got a rucksack with a poo pocket. I've been known to forget I've got one in there if we are out hiking - but I notice when I go to put another one inside, not because of the smell. I suppose the smell depends what you feed your dog - her farts are rank mind Grin

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 06/07/2015 21:34

Eww you dirty article
Every time they open their bin they will get a waft of shit smell from your dog's shit. This is unbelievably not ok.

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 21:35

There'll be no waft if it's bagged up and knotted.

Umm I don't have a dog but I've had a baby and even bagged nappies stink, so I don't believe that dog shit doesn't

oddfodd · 06/07/2015 21:40

Funnily enough when DS was in nappies, I could still smell the shit through the nappy bag. And Ivan smell rubbish in tightly tied bags too. Perhaps I just have a very sensitive sense of smell Hmm

honeyroar · 06/07/2015 21:41

I personally wouldn't mind at all. I live on a small holding and I am sick to death of having to pick up bags of dog poo that lazy slobs have stuck into holes in dry stone walls or hung on trees or fences. Putting them in the bin would be a step up!

And I'm not bin proud. I think my bin stinks anyway, can't say I stay long enough to smell what's inside it.

NickiFury · 06/07/2015 21:41

Why are people calling the OP "dirty"? She's said she's happy to be told if shes being unreasonable. Stop trying to shame her.

oddfodd · 06/07/2015 21:41

I don't know who Ivan is. Confused I can, stupid phone

PHANTOMnamechanger · 06/07/2015 21:41

I assume you walk your dog everyday OP? Maybe twice a day, same route every day? And maybe you're even thoughtful enough to choose a different bin each time on your 30 minute walk, right? so in a week, that's maybe 14 bags of poo you don't have to carry home and put in YOUR bin. If emptied fortnighly that would be 28 bags, which till now you have not disposed of yourself in your own bin. Because that would be such an inconvenience to you, to carry them home and to have the stinky bin. So you randomly distribute them round other people, lucky them. And how dare they complain, its only a pug, only a little poo.

Lazy beggar Angry I would be livid if you did this to my bin. The inside of bins get very hot and anyone saying it does not smell if bagged has something wrong with their nose.

still, do pat yourself on the back for not being one of the idiots who hang theirs in peoples trees and hedges Hmm

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 21:42

My dog squeezed out dry little turds, nothing like the foul emission that spurt from a baby's bot.

paxtecum · 06/07/2015 21:43

Eve: the dog is feed very expensive food, but his poo stinks.
Is this a bit like us thinking that our own poo doesn't smell as bad as someone else's?

JeanneDeMontbaston · 06/07/2015 21:43

Eww.

Of course you're being unreasonable. Round where I used to live you'd have been bloody lucky not to get it thrown right back at you, too, not that I'd condone that.

You chose to own a dog.
