Using a wheelie bin for dog poo - unreasonable?

Snowballschanceinhell · 06/07/2015 21:04

I'm willing to be told I'm being unreasonable here. I've just been shouted at by a woman for putting my poo bag (very small, my dog is a pug so doesn't produce much waste!) in her wheelie bin.

I live in a residential area, not many bins on the street, plenty of wheelie bins right next to the pavement (it's not like I walked down her driveway or anything) so I quite often just pop it in the nearest one to me as it saves walking for the next 30 mins holding a bag of shit.

Who is being unreasonable?

YANBU.

It's really important to keep poo off the street. If that means dog owners putting it in the nearest bin so be it. It's a bit weird to object to waste going into a bin. Although, I suppose if you were filling the bin up that might be different...

maddening · 06/07/2015 21:15

Yabu take it home And put it in your Own bin!

MuttonCadet · 06/07/2015 21:16

I have two dogs and it would never cross my mind to use someone else's bin.
YABU, I use a cartridge bag with a plastic bag inside it and chuck them in our bin when I get home.

paxtecum · 06/07/2015 21:16

Sweet: it is in an issue.
It's not about the space, it's about the STINK.

I would be pissed off if someone put poo in my bin.

Kamden · 06/07/2015 21:16

YABU; your dog shit, your responsibility to find a public bin.

trixymalixy · 06/07/2015 21:16

YABVVU, take your dog shit home.

Worse still, I have some twat who keeps putting their bagged dog shit in my glass and recycling bins, which I'm furious about. They won't be collected if the bin men see a plastic bag in the bin.

Penfold007 · 06/07/2015 21:17

YABVU this is a bin she pays for. Take your dog's poo and put it in communal bin or your own bin..

merrymouse · 06/07/2015 21:17

I have a dog and pick up dog poo daily.

However I wouldn't expect somebody else to be happy about dog poo and I wouldn't put my rubbish in somebody else's bin.

I've had to go through bin contents before now to check whether something has accidentally gone in the rubbish. I would be very unhappy to come across an unexpected bag of poo.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 06/07/2015 21:17

At least you didn't put it in her recycling box, like someone did to us Hmm

my bin stank for ages after it was used for bagged dog poo.

MsVestibule · 06/07/2015 21:19

You've got to be kidding??? I'd be really unhappy if somebody put a bag of dog poo in my bin! Carry it until you find a public bin, or put it in your own when you get home.

paxtecum · 06/07/2015 21:19

I'm really relaxed about things like little kids needing to pee over a grid, or sit on a potty in the high street, but putting your dog's shite into someone else's bin is gross.

Snowballschanceinhell · 06/07/2015 21:19

Thanks all - I will, in future, wait until I find a dog poo bin or take it home with me.

I can't believe that any of you think it's okay to use people's bins for your rubbish. Would you help yourself to a refill of your water bottle from their tap?

They're people's private bins that they pay for

WhyTheDrama · 06/07/2015 21:19

Yabu - I wouldn't want anyone to put a dog poo bag in my bin.

Mrsderekshepard · 06/07/2015 21:20

So where do you all put your dog poo if your so opposed to put it in the wheelie bin??

exLtEveDallasNoBollocks · 06/07/2015 21:20

A properly bagged dog poo will not stink out a wheelie bin. Dear god get a grip. We've got a poo bin at the bottom of our drive and it only smells when it's full and the lid hasn't been closed properly (and it too gets emptied every other week).

A tiny pug poo is no bigger than a little finger - it's not going to make a blind bit of difference. Unless your general waste bin only contains completely dry waste then it's going to smell no matter what's in it (mine honks courtesy of the waste food on packaging etc).

These threads pop up now and then and I'm always amazed at the strength of feeling people have for their bloody bins. You'd think the bin was a piece of furniture that lived in the sitting room the way some people go on Grin

PtolemysNeedle · 06/07/2015 21:20

YABVU. Really really unreasonable. That is so rude!

Carry it home and put it in your own bin.

lomega · 06/07/2015 21:20

Ask yourself; would you want someone else to put dog shit in your personal wheelie bin at home? If you don't mind, and don't see why they're annoyed, then ask yourself what WOULD bother you in your own wheelie bin for the next 2 weeks - and then reassess. Not everyone likes dogs, therefore they don't own them and thus don't need to deal with dog crap in their bin (until a pet owner decides to put it there anyway)

And I say this as a dog lover/owner!!!!!!!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 06/07/2015 21:21

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if you used my bin for your poop or any other small piece of rubbish. I don't have a dog, or even particularly like them but we should think more about being a community. Your bin is my bin. At least you picked it up.
My partner on the other hand would be furious and would probably threaten to follow you and post it through your letter box (he wouldn't dare really )
He still tells a story about someone we know who he caught throwing a coke can into his parents bin over 20 years ago when he still lived at home!

oddfodd · 06/07/2015 21:23

Eve - my council also won't empty bins unless everything is in black bags. So one little bag of dog poo potentially means my bin doesn't get emptied for a month. And of course it smells!

paxtecum · 06/07/2015 21:25

Eve: dog shit stinks, even when double or triple bagged.

I often end up with a triple bagged dog poo in the car as there are no bins on one walk that I do. It stinks.

merrymouse · 06/07/2015 21:26

These threads pop up now and then and I'm always amazed at the strength of feeling people have for their bloody bins.

Who knows what people do with their bin? Maybe they disinfect it every day? Maybe they like to hang out in it? Their bin, their choice. You are free to think they are bonkers, but it isn't your bin and you shouldn't put rubbish in it.

deriant · 06/07/2015 21:26

I don't see the problem. I wouldn't care if you put it in my bin.
