Using a wheelie bin for dog poo - unreasonable?

Snowballschanceinhell · 06/07/2015 21:04

I'm willing to be told I'm being unreasonable here. I've just been shouted at by a woman for putting my poo bag (very small, my dog is a pug so doesn't produce much waste!) in her wheelie bin.

I live in a residential area, not many bins on the street, plenty of wheelie bins right next to the pavement (it's not like I walked down her driveway or anything) so I quite often just pop it in the nearest one to me as it saves walking for the next 30 mins holding a bag of shit.

Who is being unreasonable?

Bleugh! It's YOURdog and YOUR dogs shit! Take it home with you, put it in YOUR bin and don't out it in anyone else's IMO. I have dogs and would never dream of dumping MY dogs shit in anyone else's bins. It's bagged, brought home and put down the toilet. It's not difficult to carry a bag for a short distance.

holmessweetholmes · 06/07/2015 21:47

I wouldn't mind if someone put some in my bin, but that's because I'm a dog owner myself. I can totally understand that non dog owners wouldn't want other people's dog poo in their bin. I know bins are smelly things, but dog poo really is extra smelly, even when it's bagged. I think it's a bit of a rude thing to do really. But clearly some very kind people don't mind! There's a privately-owned field on the edge of my village and the owner not only lets people walk their dogs in there, but has put a poo bin by the gate for people to use!

Muffles: you empty the bag down the loo or do you put the bag and poo down the loo?

exLtEveDallasNoBollocks · 06/07/2015 21:48

I reckon I'm lucky with the Mutt then Pax, she's really not that bad. Now the Rottweiler...Christ that was honking Grin (But it was still ok in the wheelie bin)

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 21:48

The OP said about half an hour ago that she will refrain from doing this in future. Your bins are safe so calm down.

Snowballschanceinhell · 06/07/2015 21:49

PHANTOMnamechanger - no, he gets one walk a day. I don't do the same walk every day, when I pass a poo bin i obviously use that. If he chooses to shit near my house, I either double back and dump it in my bin or I wait until I'm home (dependent on where we are, he's a dog so doesn't do it on command).

I asked if I was being unreasonable, quite a few people told me I was. I took that feedback and said I wouldn't now do it in future.

But thanks for your message though, very helpful.

Our bin bags are lifted out of our wheelie bins and anything not in a bin liner gets left. A bag of poo would have to be hoiked out and disposed by me. I'm a dog owner and have to carry a bag of poo twice daily. It's not hard. If you can't manage that you shouldn't have a dog.

threenotfour · 06/07/2015 21:51

Oh my goodness...is this even a geniune question. Yes YABU. Very much so. Take your poo home and stink your own bin out. Gross.

Murfles · 06/07/2015 21:51

Empty the contents down the loo. Why would anyone attempt to flush a plastic poo bag?

LOL at all those outraged owners claiming my doggy's poo doesn't smell nasty

it is amazing what you can become accustomed to, to the extent you don't notice, isn't it.

StayWithMe · 06/07/2015 21:56

I'm afraid I think anyone doing that is taking a bloody liberty, and I look after other people's dogs. I've just come back from walking three medium sized dogs. It's attitudes like this that give dog owners a bad name. On occasion I've been out with six dogs and I carry a rucksack with a larger plastic bag in it in order to carry the shit to the bin. I'll take it home and dispose of it in my own bin before using someone else's. You chose to have a dog so you look after it's shit, wether that's disposing of it in a dog bin or your own bin. Some people put large bin liners in their bins, do you expect them to tip the bin or have to pick the shit bag out of it before lining it again? It's not your bloody bin!

StayWithMe · 06/07/2015 21:58

P.s OP I'm glad you're willing to dispose of it in an other way, bty. I was directing my comments to those who still think it's ok.

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 21:58

PHANTOM I was merely saying that you can't compared the smell of a dog turd to the smell of a baby's nappy.

Nothing particularly, 'LOL' worthy about that.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 06/07/2015 21:59

Some bin men will only take black bags.

Still better than just leaving them at the base of a tree which we get loads of round here. Who do they think is going to pick it up?

And while we are in the subject - dog owners who let their dog wee on the bin bags that are out for collection (we don't have wheely bins in these parts) - that's such an unkind thing to do.

exLtEveDallasNoBollocks · 06/07/2015 21:59

Well done Snowball, I'm impressed at how well you keep your cool Smile. Not something worth getting het up over.

Any pics of the pug?

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 06/07/2015 22:05

I wish dog walkers would use my bin, better than cleaning it off shoes or bike wheels.

InvisibleAnxiety · 06/07/2015 22:11

YABVU! That's out of order.

I'd be fuming if I'd put the bins out for collection and returned home later that day only to find a bag of dog poo at the bottom. I don't have a dog and most certainly would not expect to find anybody's dog mess in my bin, bagged or not. Angry

It wasn't a public bin and nor did it belong to you, therefore you shouldn't be putting anything in there without the permission of the owner.

We use bin liners in our wheelie bins and I wouldn't be too happy fishing out dog poo in order to line my bin for my own rubbish.

Supersoft · 06/07/2015 22:38

I must be odd. It wouldn't bother me at all. Much rather that then see those bags of poo that some dog walkers leave lying around / thrown into hedges. You can use my bin anytime op!

howtodrainyourflagon · 06/07/2015 22:45

credit is due to the OP for hearing the YABU message and taking it on board. I'd be if someone did that in my bin because I'm a bit grossed out by dog poo. But I'd rather it ended up in my bin than on my shoe.

ReginaBlitz · 06/07/2015 22:56

You are out of order how rude?! I have a dog and have never done this, I carry the shit until I find a bin or I get home, your dog your problem as if someone wants a stinking bag of someone else's dog shit festering in their bin for a possible 2 weeks.

SistersofPercy · 06/07/2015 23:25

My mum did this once, completely by accident and in a world of her own she tossed it in a bin at the end of someone's drive. Mum got home and suddenly realised what she'd done. She was so horrified she went back.

She was head first in the bin when the home owner appeared, they had a bit of a laugh about it and mum apologised but ultimately the lady didn't mind, not that mum ever did it again I add.

As a dog owner I have to say poo stinks. I bring my poo bags home to my own bin and wouldn't put them in someone else's. The situation couldn't arise where one was left in my bin but as it would already have poo bags in it then it wouldnt bother me providing it was bagged and in the right bin. That said, had input got my own dog and kept my bin smelling nice then I'd probably be a bit hacked off about it.

kali110 · 06/07/2015 23:40

Welldone for not losing it op!

Id be pissed off too, purely as a load of others have said, the bin men would just leave it!
What is this about expensive food making poo not smell?
My hedgehog eats tiny £4 bags of cat food and her poo reaks Grin

JeanneDeMontbaston · 06/07/2015 23:43

Um ... while I am glad the OP realises she is doing something disgusting, I'm not sure she deserves credit for not 'losing it'! She admitted in her OP she expected this response, so had an idea it might not be ok to litter with dog poo before she posted.

I am not clear how she deserves praise for not compounding that by being rude, really?
