To just not FEEL that overweight??

TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 13:20

I'm one stone overweight. That's quite a lot...but I look in the mirror and think "I don't look fat!"

But I must be!

I'm a size 14 on the bottom and a 12 on top..5.7 and 13 stones.

I am bang on 13st at the moment and 5ft 5. I am a large 14 or small 16 depending on where I shop. Hourglass figure so my thighs and arse are big compared to my waist.

People carry weight differently and it totally depends on your body shape.

I don't feel massive at this size though because I've lost 2st so I've recently been much bigger. I still feel fat in some situations though (mostly when I'm at play group with all the mums of tiny babies who run bloody marathons and do triathlons!)

TheWordFactory · 08/07/2015 18:57

sanfairy whenever I visit Italy, I can walk into any shop and know their clothes will fit/suit me Grin.

Ditto when I go to Latin America.

I will never be a size 8, nor do I want to be/need to be. And it's also silly to talk about the sizes of women of yesteryear and their clothes. I am 6 inches taller than my mother, my feet are three sizes bigger, I am an entirely different shape.

I do not feel fat, because I am not fat Grin.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 18:58

Carabos great egg tip! Thanks!

Ohanarama I don't know but my clothes aren't tight at all....a 14 dress or jeans fits well...I'm small framed so have narrow shoulders and a flattish chest so maybe that'ts it?

Dont I don't know! I just do....a 14 top is baggy on the shoulders and the chest area...a dress will look nice on me if I wear a padded bra but not a 12 in general as the waist wouldn't; fit me.

this Daily Fail article shows how different women can appear....the small woman who is first is short and a size 14....my legs are nowhere close to as wide as hers....the third woman is an inch taller than me...she's a size 12 and her upper body is very like mine but I think my legs and hips are bigger.

OP posts:
TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 19:03

Actually I think my shoulders are narrower than the third woman's but it's hard to tell. I'd upload a (headless) photo if I could....I can't because my phone isn't linked to Facebook and the camera function isn't good. I don't think my laptop camera works either.

leedy · 08/07/2015 19:07

Third woman looks a similar-ish shape to me as well, except I've got bigger boobs and slightly chunkier thighs.

fourtothedozen · 08/07/2015 19:19

I am 5'7", and I would feel huge at 13st. Sorry OP.
I weigh around 9st, and that feels fine. Heaviest I have been ( apart from pregnancy ) is 10 st and I felt very bloated and uncomfortable.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 19:23

Four yes...I do feel big. But earlier in thread I amended as I've lost a few pounds now. {proud} since I weighed myself...4 to be exact but still obviously a long way to go. I never put ANY weight on after DC 1 but after DC 2 I seemed to expand....I was taking no excersise at all and still eating what I wanted.

Change is coming.

OP posts:
TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 19:24

What I mean is that I feel big NOW. THe more I've talked on this thread, the more I've realised that it's not right....I have too much padding...I didn't feel overweight but I do....as someone said, it's hard because with a lot of oveweight folk around me, it all gets skewed.

I stumbled upon this article recently which was interesting. There is a picture of a row of woman and you have to guess which is the healthy weight www.theguardian.com/society/the-shape-we-are-in-blog/2014/sep/10/obesity-body-image

FreakinScaryCaaw · 08/07/2015 19:34

I'm 5 8 and around 13 stone. I still feel sexy but would like to tone up and lose some tum.

But I love my 36Ds. I don't want to lose my curves so am just eating fairly healthily and keeping active but not going daft.

I was skinny when young and hated it.

I think if you feel good then it makes you look good too.

I work with some stunning young women who have no confidence in their looks. It's not new but I think there is way too much pressure on people nowadays to look 'perfect'. A lot of shallow people too.

sanfairyanne · 08/07/2015 19:47

CheesyToast - like the link. i am like number 4, my bmi is over 25 though but i am tall and muscly

leedy · 08/07/2015 19:48

FWIW, here is an attractive headless photo of what 13 stone in size 14 looks like. Not exactly svelte but hardly squeezing my vast unwieldy bulk sausage-like into my garments either.

To just not FEEL that overweight??
FelixFelix · 08/07/2015 19:57

Leedy you look the same as me Smile

I like this thread.

I'm 5'7", and after 3 kids I'm now stuck at 155lb. I work so hard at diet and exercise but it's coming off sooooo sllloooowwwwwlllllyyyyyy. Literally 0.5lb a week on average!

Almost tempted to post today's underwear shot just to fat shame myself HmmGrin

monkeyfacegrace · 08/07/2015 20:16

Ah sod it here you go.

So thats 16 weeks post baby (with polyhydramnios so bump was obscene).

155lb (11st 1lb?)
32GG bust.

Cry myself to sleep over that body. I ming.

But by Christmas I will be down to 140lb and look like me again!

FreakinScaryCaaw · 08/07/2015 20:19

Monkey that's a lovely bra.

Runningupthathill82 · 08/07/2015 20:20

As this thread has proved, people have completely lost sight of what overweight looks like.

I'm 5ft 6ins and the heaviest I've ever been is 12 and a half stone. I was 40 weeks pregnant and absolutely huge.

My normal weight is around 9st 7, which makes me a size 10 (or, with vanity sizing, an 8 or even a 6).

I'm not skinny, my BMI is bang in the middle of normal. But I'm known in the office as being the "skinny exercise freak" just because the majority of my colleagues are much bigger, and because I exercise 6 days a week.

Runningupthathill82 · 08/07/2015 20:22

Don't cry yourself to sleep, Monkey! At four months post baby you should be being kind to yourself. You do not "ming." Really.

fourtothedozen · 08/07/2015 20:26

Running- I agree. Attitudes about what is overweight is becoming skewed.
Far more people are obese than 40 years ago in the UK.
It's a dangerous road if we start normalising a 4 stone weight excess.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 20:27

Leedy you're very like me too....I have small bust and similar shape.

OP posts:
TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 20:32

Monkey you have a lovely waist and bust. 16 weeks post baby!

OP posts:
leedy · 08/07/2015 20:41

I'm probably bustier than I look in that photo, I have mysteriously widely spaced boobs that naturally sit where a minimizer bra would put them.

monkeyfacegrace · 08/07/2015 21:04

No really, I am gopping. Make my eyes want to bleed.

Bra set was new today, I wasn't going to buy one as I'll drop a few sizes over the next few months but wanted something nice for the interim.

running is right, we have all lost sight of what's normal. I am hugely overweight and at a very real risk of weight related issues if I carried on life at this weight.

Being overweight is somehow celebrated and being skinny is chastised.

But cake is just so damn nice Wink
