It's all so ... 1948? ... mummy pushing the heirloom pram, George's historical fancy dress outfit, the Norland Nanny in her starched uniform, the crown jewels font shipped in from the Tower, the fawning sycophantic voice-over on the BBC helpfully sharing with the little people the details of George's internal monologue ... It still is 2015 is it? Haaaaaalp!!!!! I thought these were the new wave modern Royals? Confused

There's William, Kate and a lot of the time Carole, so I doubt they really need a nanny. But at least the nanny provides consistency for the children when their parents are away on their Royal 'duties'. I hope she is paid at least the living wage.

SurlyCue · 06/07/2015 16:47

Hmm, i'm sure there are a shitload of people who dont actually need a nanny, many of whom will be on MN. Not sure why this one is being questioned.

But at least the nanny provides consistency for the children when their parents are away on their Royal 'duties'

yes i would imagine so.

Also, norland nannies tend to command quite high salaries. I dont doubt for a second that she is earning at least a living wage.

Why are all Royal threads so unpleasant?

OurDearLeader · 06/07/2015 16:58

That Christmas card was odd. Apparently they were supposed to have a formal photo taken, but at the last monent Diana decided to wear casual riding clothes and told the nannies to put the boys in the same thing but deliberately didn't tell Charles so he turned up in a suit. She did it on purpose so he would look like a stuffed shirt, remote and formal father while she looked relaxed and the 'fun' parent.

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2015 16:58

They are only unpleasant if you think that anything except what a lovely little family so normal so like us- ooh Prince George looks so cute and not at all like the ghost of a child killed in the Blutz is unpleasant.

SirChenjin · 06/07/2015 16:58

Because there are a large number of us who dislike everything they represent.

lovelychops · 06/07/2015 16:59

Presumably they need the nanny for when they go on holiday without the kids?

BertrandRussell · 06/07/2015 17:01

Really? I can't imagine circumstances where Diana would have chosen to wear riding clothes. Or where Charles wouldn't have just. cancelled the shoot...

I appreciate (not agree) that some might not like the royal family and what they stand for but honesty - can you please name me a Republic that has it better than the UK?

downgraded · 06/07/2015 17:03

Fucking hell! "Why do they need a nanny?" Really?

Ok, let's find the first SAHM we see and ask if her kids go to nursery at all. Why the fuck should the kids of a SAHM go to nursery? Lazy mother what is she thinking? Hmm

They have a nanny because they can afford a nanny and they want a nanny.

SirChenjin · 06/07/2015 17:03

Or work.

Oh - hang on...

You'd rather live in any of those countries? You don't think presidents have a cost?

Ok, rather than better, a country that benefits by not having a royal family. I just cannot understand the hatred and vitriol. We have a democratic process, the elections. So the hate can't come from being controlled by the monarchy because we're not. I
