It's all so ... 1948? ... mummy pushing the heirloom pram, George's historical fancy dress outfit, the Norland Nanny in her starched uniform, the crown jewels font shipped in from the Tower, the fawning sycophantic voice-over on the BBC helpfully sharing with the little people the details of George's internal monologue ... It still is 2015 is it? Haaaaaalp!!!!! I thought these were the new wave modern Royals? Confused

I find the duplicate red shorts outfit kind of creepy and weird. Was it done on purpose? Is George actually a clone and they are trying to repeat history?

Mumblechum1 · 05/07/2015 23:36

I quite enjoy seeing the odd news item that isn't about violence and mayhem. me too NewFlipFlops Smile

Morloth · 05/07/2015 23:40

They obviously enjoy a good game of dress ups. I know I do.

havemercy · 05/07/2015 23:41

I'm not a royalist, but I think they made a lovely little family. I don't know how people can be upset about a baby being christened Hmm

It's lovely to have some good news for a change.

Sixweekstowait · 05/07/2015 23:44

OP - I'm with you. And as for us commenting on it all, it was their choice to parade to church like this. And as for all the money the tourists bring in because we have a royal family?? Oh come on - ?hat twaddle. We have no idea what difference they make but we do know that countries without monarchies do very well for tourists - Paris anyone for example?

They are trying to assert the Windsor brand, to remind people of Ye Goode Olde Days, when the populace tugged their forelocks without question, and the royals were secure.

As more and more ordinary folk join the Royal Family, and the 'blue blood' is diluted, there is less and less reason to keep them, so they have to work harder to justify their position.

After all, who would want to give up such a cosseted life? Not the Windsor Firm!

HuftysTrain · 05/07/2015 23:48

I am not anti the monarchy.

However, I agree there was something very surreal about watching today's news footage. It has to be the most stage-managed spectacle I've ever seen in terms of royal events. The weird attention to detail like they were all putting on a BBC historical drama. Totally agree OP, the way they dressed Prince George was a bit creepy. Why would you research what your husband had worn when he was taken to visit his newborn brother 30 years earlier and then search the globe to track down a near identical outfit for your own toddler to wear to his sister's christening.

Is this what Kate does all day??? Who has time for this??

It would have been less weird to have put him in the actual outfit if it was considered an heirloom.

The pram as stage prop added to the weird throw-back look of the whole thing. I don't know.... I wish the little princess every joy and am definitely not against the monarchy but my oh my, that was a bit weird.

iniquity · 05/07/2015 23:48

I was watching the news when thus came up. Had to turn the sound off as I couldn't bare the reporting if it on the BBC. It just irritates the hell out of me. I don't mind seeing the pictures just the way BBC reports it.

FreudiansSlipper · 05/07/2015 23:49

No one is upset about a baby being christened

People are annoyed that we still have a family who have accumulated immense wealth that we still add too with no choice in the matter and the fawning press and some members of the peasants public

Some like myself feel this has no place in our society today

GiddyOnZackHunt · 05/07/2015 23:53

Yy to Windsor brand. Kate,William and Harry are doing a tip top PR job. William is using his helicopter training to do useful work and Harry has transformed himself. I reckon Kate has a will of iron and is aiming to be a Queen Mary style matriarch running Windsor Inc for 60 years.

senua · 05/07/2015 23:53

Bad example! I haven't been to France in years - despite the cheese and the wine - because their tourist industry is so awful. They haven't got a clue.

SurlyCue · 05/07/2015 23:53

A baby's christening makes people's blood boil? Confused really?

AnyoneForTennis · 05/07/2015 23:53

Ah well, it's here to stay

Like isis

Hatred everywhere. Even at a baby's christening

Postchildrenpregranny · 05/07/2015 23:54

It's clever PR (or not if MNs are representative !) Continuity of Royal Family, tradition etc
I bet they have a Bugaboo for Real Life. I've never seen the nanny in uniform before either

SurlyCue · 05/07/2015 23:54

I dont think Paris is a country.

LondonRocks · 05/07/2015 23:59

Can't do right, whatever they do.

(I am completely neutral about them; weird thing to get worked up about though...) Confused

MegMurry · 06/07/2015 00:00

I have flicked through the pics - it all looks rather peculiar and I don't know why.

The ludicrous Norland nanny uniform, the daft old pram with Kate shoving it up a slope, George's sissy outfit, the sycophantic twits lining the route - it's another world..

leccybill · 06/07/2015 00:01

George's throwback outfit was a little odd.
I hope he knocks about in his Asda shorts and plimsolls when he's digging up worms in the back garden. He's a cute kid alright.

CultureSucksDownWords · 06/07/2015 00:05

"George's sissy outfit" - really? I don even know where to start with that sort of comment.

We have a monarchy, that isn't going to change any time soon. Significant numbers of people seem to love having them, I don't know why. But given that, what on earth do people expect them to do other than to live up to their roles?

SurlyCue · 06/07/2015 00:05

Sissy outfit? Hmm

CultureSucksDownWords · 06/07/2015 00:06

*don't

CaptainHolt · 06/07/2015 00:06

I much prefer William's outfit. Georges blouse is weirdly bouffy and the shorts are a too generous cut and the collar isn't even trimmed.

CaptainHolt · 06/07/2015 00:07

My mistake - the collar is trimmed. It's still shite though.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 06/07/2015 00:12

When it comes to dressing George, I like to imagine that there is a Mrs Danvers type character working in the household, who has been there for many years, since Princess Diana was a new bride and who has never quite gotten over Diana's death. She is insisting on choosing whatever Princess Diana would have chosen in all respects. The real test would be to see if Kate's personal stationary has an elegant "D" in one corner Wink.
