Eyesight - what???

Er, sorry for a blatant request for traffic Blush

Last couple of days my eyesight has seriously deteriorated. I wear glasses but I have blurred vision and "floaters". Could this be to do with heat? What should I do? Cam see
Better without glasses at the minute.

Help? Please?

Pregnant? In each pregnancy I suddenly noticed a deterioration and needed a new prescription (different each time and reverted postnatally).

Needs a HCP if it persists.

Any pain, sensitivity to light?

How's your blood pressure?

You need to be checked out by a Dr really, could be iritis, uveitis, many things

Go and see an optician ASAP to get checked out - new floaters can indicate a problem, as can a sudden deterioration in eyesight.

I would see an optician as an emergency if it were me. You don't fuck about when it comes to your eyes.

If you've noticed a sudden increase in floaters, then it could be a sign that something else is going on. I would visit an optician in the first instance.

What do floaters mean? I've always had them to an extent. Have had
Migraine eye disturbance before but it's like milder form and no headache or sicknesd

That needs checking. Urgently. There could be a problem with intra-ocular pressure or blood supply to the retina, both of which are dangerous.

Is it there all the time?

One day I woke up (literally, just appeared one morning) and noticed that when reading, words in the middle ?f the page moved around. I tried each eye and found that the bottom corner of my left eye was blurred. Most of the time, when using both eyes, I didn't notice but when trying to focus on small things, it was very difficult and distracting.

Didn't go away next day so went to the opticians. Diagnosed as a detached retina and had an operation three days later.

A year later and it is fine. That eye is slightly weaker but my eyesight is basically back to normal (corrected by contacts)

Have you seen any odd flashes of light, or something that looks like the air is sparkling?

I agree an optician would be a good first port of call.

3 years ago, I went to the optician at 10 am, and by 5pm that day I'd been at hospital for 6-7 hours, finishing off with laser surgery for a tear in the retina. The optician referred me straight to my local hospital's eye casualty clinic.

I booked in the opticians as an eye test, they're sure to have one or two slots. If not, emergency app at gp or local hospital?

Is it much worse then yesterday? Like I said, my operation wasn't until three days later as my retina was detaching at a very slow rate. One day may make no difference so don't panic.

Yes just go to your local opticians and explain your problem- someone should see you and if necessary refer you to your eye clinic by way of a phone call and a letter to present

Ring the opticians AS SOON as they open and explain your symptoms. They'll give you an urgent appointment. It's vital you get it checked, this could be really serious.

The fact that the correction with your glasses has changed is what is worrying. If your eyes were irritated, the blurring wouldn't be affected by your glasses, but you mentioned that you can see better without your glasses than with which suggests that something internal may possibly have happened.

Opticians usually keep a few slots open for emergencies or can squeeze you in between appointments. If not your usual branch, you can try others.

Alternatively, if you have an eye hospital you can get to, some have an A&E. I might be worth calling 111 to see if you can be triaged for that or if they can find somewhere else to send you to be checked.

The optician will be able to refer you to the local ophthalmology unit at the hospital if it's non-urgent so there's no need to bother with the GP (who will ask you to go to the optician anyway). If you can't get an emergency appointment at the optician tomorrow then I'd recommend A and E. Some hospitals (such as QMC in Nottingham) have dedicated eye A and E units.
