Are my dresses unreasonable for the school run?

MyNameIsPinkiePie · 01/07/2015 10:35

I wore the black dress yesterday (see pics) and got a filthy stare off a woman pushing a buggy on the school pick up. I don't think I had my kids with me at that point. I later wore the dress to a Christian youth group, in fact I wore it to the office earlier the same day and it seemed fine. Today I had both kids on the way to school, I was wearing the dark red dress with a black cardigan. I got another long glare from the same woman, it was her staring that made me realise it was her again! I wouldn't wear the dark red dress to the office and I have pinned it to make it less low on the bust. They are both soft jersey dresses. But are they really that bad and does it make a difference whether I'm a mother or on the school run as to whether these outfits are appropriate?

GW?

Goshthatsspicy · 01/07/2015 12:58

I agree, l hope pinkie hides this.
And actually, do try the style and beauty section.
More lighthearted, and you can concentrate on clothes!

TheHouse... Oh that. Yes, I think that's very possible. Low self-esteem doesn't sound like this, imo. The Muslim comment was odd, the boobs/legs on display but yet OP is supposedly not confident in spite of the pose. Yes, I think the photos may be of somebody else. That way an OP could get her kicks from seeing comments that are none too flattering, having set the right scene for that. Perhaps the woman in the photo has upset the OP in some way, possibly by 'tinkerbell-ing', there's a lot of that about.

No way of checking.

Randall I started wearing shorts as soon as it was warm enough this year - consequently I have legs which are the colour of actual honey, rather than pasty pasty white white, which is the look I usually rock. It never occurred to me before that the reason my legs are so white is because they are never out.

No one's stared at me, mind.

hahahahha @ this thread

"Perhaps the woman in the photo has upset the OP in some way, possibly by 'tinkerbell-ing', there's a lot of that about."

What is 'tinkerbell-ing'?

RandallFloyd · 01/07/2015 13:01

My calves don't tan.
They seemingly repel the sun.

My thighs and feet go brown (ish) but my calves stay pure white.
It's an ossom look.

And non-racist comments? Do Muslims not post on S&B? Or, indeed, anyone who might be offended by a racist comment? [Hmm]

Wideopenspace · 01/07/2015 13:03

Me too Randall. But shorts, consistently, from spring and I have BROWN legs.

CrystalCove · 01/07/2015 13:04

Christian street preachers? Is that the religious version of manic street preachers?

LegoComplex · 01/07/2015 13:04

looks good to me

CrystalCove · 01/07/2015 13:04

Forgot the Grin

It doesn't take a genius to work out what is behind this post. How it came about, and why it is peppered with such odd statements.
I'm surprised that only a couple of us can read it.
Aren't any if you wondering why op isn't fazed by the banter/jokes?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/07/2015 13:06

Grunt... holding out your skirts and posing for a picture. A poster upthread coined that excellent phrase.

I do the odd twirl whilst I'm waiting for a kettle to boil maybe but I don't have a camera in my hand or an audience.

Wideopenspace · 01/07/2015 13:07

Gosh - erm...Is the OP a robot?

ScrumpyBetty · 01/07/2015 13:08

Can't wait for tomorrow's thread, please update us with photos of your outfit (what will it be tomorrow? I'm beside myself with excitement just thinking about it) and do let us know if you get any more filty looks from religious or non religious parties.

MyNameIsPinkiePie · 01/07/2015 13:08

Sorry, it's real and yes I'm very hard on myself. I know in part it's the result of bullying at school and what people wore or how they didn't their hair was very important as you'd be judged harshly. I want to look ok but not noticeable so as to be judged. We can't all be as self assured as you all seem to be.

Pagwatch - I hate the staring and am waiting for the time I'm invisible. I think it will be nice when that passes and am almost jealous of those who are there now and don't have the same pressures to look a certain way.

I'm afraid I am asked if I'm my daughter's sister, once at almost 31 and DD2 was 18 months. Once just before Xmas at 32 and asked by the lady in a toy shop with my then four year old Dd1. Last one was Monday and DD1 is five and wanted to talk to the lady's dogs - saw her in the morning and later in the afternoon when she said she thought I was her sister. I told a woman I met a couple of weeks ago I had kids and she looked shocked, I reassured her I was in my 30s - "and not a child bride" was her response. I don't think I look young but people do. And I am not stupid enough to post my face on here.

I too need to know what tinker bell-ing is??

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/07/2015 13:10

Indeed, Gosh, I was surprised at the lack of 'thank yous' to the positive comments. That is what would be expected and dare I say, 'normal'? OP has posted around all of those and continues to be incendiary, ie. not as honest as 'inflammatory' but more couched so that a slow burn of indignation is achieved in the posting community before..... BAM! It explodes in a heap of something smelly.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/07/2015 13:11

cross posted with some 'aftersun'...

derxa · 01/07/2015 13:12

OP Sad person that I am I looked up your previous posts on mn. I don't think posting this on AIBU is a good idea for you.
Good luck Dx

Roussette · 01/07/2015 13:12

Maybe I'm missing something but why are you upset at looking young??

you wanna try looking old, you'll get fed up of that! Also, when you get to the invisible age, believe me you won't like it one little bit.

OP sometimes people say things like "I thought you were her sister" either as a joke or a turn of phrase in my case, it would be a joke. Why do you fixate on this sort of stuff?

This is a very odd thread and I am not sure what you were hoping to get from it. Please enlighten me!

Goshthatsspicy · 01/07/2015 13:13

See?
Crushingly low self esteem, can make for very odd interpretations of social situations.
I hope people understand you a bit better
now pinkie

I got asked for ID buying booze in Morrisons the other day.
I almost snogged the cashier.
