People who are doing it WRONG

My Dad loves to talk about how he enjoys a good barbecue in this weather, once he even invited a lot of family round for one.

His version of a BBQ is a George Formby grill (natch), and in nice weather he plugs it in outside to cook a burger or sausage on. He is quite evangelical about how clever it is to barbecue that way.

It gives me the gritted teeth rage.

Anyone else who is doing it ALL WRONG? Offload here Brew

Your post made it finally dawn on me that 'to be' is the only verb with a singular and plural simple past form! I had to google it to check. It's only 50 years since I learned grammar Blush

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/07/2015 22:22

Sgone? 'Sgone where, exactly?

PHANTOMnamechanger · 02/07/2015 22:24

It's scone as in gone....

and if you THINK otherwise you have another THINK COMING (ie you need to THINK again, it is not thing, which does not even make sense)

OK that one has been done before but I am still amazed how many people do not get why what they think is the correct saying, is not!

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/07/2015 22:27

I'm correct, I'm always correct. Because I'm Welsh, and we all know the delightful tones a welshy can speak in.....

Plus I like dunking buttered bread in tea. If that's not high class, like scowwn eating, I don't know what it....

nooyearnooname · 02/07/2015 22:37

Apologies if the thread has moved on a bit as I've not RTFT, but people who have sweetcorn with Sunday dinner. Wrong!!

And something above has just reminded me of the traumatic childhood experience of my mother's "orange milkshake", which was milk mixed with orange squash. She used to get really annoyed when I asked for strawberry Nesquik instead. Vile beyond.vile.

PoppyAmex · 02/07/2015 22:47

Hot milk in cereal is perfectly normal in the Continent.

Chips with pizza, pasta or Chinese food is odd and wrong.

I enjoy millions of British things and habits, but salad cream is one of the most revolting things I've tried (and I love snails with croutons and beer).

OVienna · 02/07/2015 22:50

Omg salad cream- is it wrong to bathe in it?

Neonladybird1970 · 02/07/2015 22:52

Oh dear. I heard a proper abomination in the chippy earlier. A customer was presented with a range of vinegars - malt (correct), white (possible regional variation) and balsamic Shock no no no.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/07/2015 22:54

Balsamic vinegar is lovely on chips!!

Neonladybird1970 · 02/07/2015 22:59

Posh artisan chips in a gastropub, possibly, chippy chips? No. Just no.

Neonladybird1970 · 02/07/2015 23:01

Have just realised have been told IABU for my first ever post on IABU. Yay!

GloGirl · 02/07/2015 23:19

I actually say sconn and scoan.

The cupcake and the strawberry thing is brilliant. And the banana thing works too. I don't like Nutella.

WTF?? The video woman said Nootella. Presumably because it made out of noots.

ChickenMe · 03/07/2015 05:38

People who keep raw potatoes and also onions in the fridge

People who throw away fruit and veg because it has passed its best before date, even though it's fine.

People who serve strawberries with Elmlea Shock

SwedeDreams · 03/07/2015 06:45

Bacon sandwiches are served without butter BUT with HP sauce you utter tools.

I hate bras in general -but if worn you must swivel, too tight bras are WRONG.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 03/07/2015 07:07

nootella? that's just nooty Wink

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 03/07/2015 07:30

littleham nope, it's cream first then jam (on a scone-rhyming-with-phone). When you have butter and jam on toast you put the jam on top of the butter, right? And cream is to butter as jam is to, um, jam. Logical, innit.

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 03/07/2015 07:32

ovienna just about the only thing on this thread it's NOT wrong to do is bathe in salad cream.

mathsmo · 03/07/2015 07:39

Family who show up at your house 15-20 minutes early 'because they didn't want to be late'. Why??? It's not a bloody appointment. My Dad used to do this so regularly (and then comment about why weren't ready) to both me and my B/SIL that we started to tell him a time that was half an hour later than everyone else Wink

Taytocrisps · 03/07/2015 08:02

I saw one yesterday - man in front of me asked for lasagne and mashed potatoes!

MrsHathaway · 03/07/2015 09:34

When you have butter and jam on toast you put the jam on top of the butter, right? And cream is to butter as jam is to, um, jam. Logical, innit.

I butter my skonn, then add jam, then cream - when I'm off the sugar wagon, that is. At the moment it's cheese scones with butter.

::wanders into kitchen thoughtfully::

Garlick · 03/07/2015 10:46

You people who put the cream on your scone/scone before the jam, how do you get the jam on top of the cream? You can't spread it and using a spoon will just give you a precarious blob, won't it?

WhoreGasm · 03/07/2015 10:48

People who insist on using the calculator on their phone to micro analyse and dissect the group restuarant bill to do an accurate breakdown of who pays what. WTAF? And then go on to actually try to argue the point they only had one piece of garlic bread as opposed to 3 like me

No. Just absolutely no. And thrice no again.

Tuskerfull · 03/07/2015 10:54

Double carbing is wrong unless you are hungover.

This is why I have an issue with gnocchi.

Lancelottie · 03/07/2015 11:01

Double carbing is so not wrong if it's a chip butty.
