People who are doing it WRONG

My Dad loves to talk about how he enjoys a good barbecue in this weather, once he even invited a lot of family round for one.

His version of a BBQ is a George Formby grill (natch), and in nice weather he plugs it in outside to cook a burger or sausage on. He is quite evangelical about how clever it is to barbecue that way.

It gives me the gritted teeth rage.

Anyone else who is doing it ALL WRONG? Offload here Brew

As a teen I used to regularly eat thin slices of apple in milk, delicious!

I admit to being a swiveller (blame DM!) as for sandwiches, butter ALL the time (the more the better!) DH only has the thinnest scrape of butter on the bottom slice only! I HATE the sandwiches he makes me, so dry and unappetising!

Also on the sandwich theme, my general rule of thumb is: If I can eat it, then I can (& will) eat it in a sandwich (especially leftovers mmm!).

Red top milk is NOT milk, its white water.

DM used to make us a delicacy as children known as 'chopped up egg with butter', only works when eaten from a mug though!

I suspect Esmeralda of being my sister . So, Es, what did our parents believe to be an acceptable topping for fishfingers, huh??

LadyNym · 01/07/2015 19:35

I'm curious about front fastening bras. Are they adjustable in the underbust strap?

MadeMan · 01/07/2015 19:37

Has anyone tried stepping into their bra and simply pulling it up from their feet? Is that a viable solution to the swivel dilemma?

NEScribe · 01/07/2015 19:42

Interesting - must share this!! There was a TV documentary a couple of weeks ago where they set up a dental unit for people who just don't go - usually due to fear.
The expert dental advice included .... brush your teeth before food and not after - which goes against everything I've ever been taught.
They said using a toothbrush after breakfast when you have sugar/acid on your teeth from orange juice/cereal is akin to pouring acid on your car and then brushing it all over with a brillo pad.
Well, put like that it certainly makes sense - but I still haven't been able to bring myself to brush teeth before breakfast. I think you need to do it afterwards so that your mouth feels nice and fresh for the day ahead ... but apparently that is totally wrong :(

NotCitrus · 01/07/2015 19:43

Weetabix mixed with cheese to make a topping for tuna pasta bake actually works rather well - it goes all cheesy and crunchy. One of my mum's better ideas.

As opposed to a 'healthy Christmas cake'. Sugar-free because all the dried fruit would apparently make it sweet enough. No. It didn't.

Swivelling bras is fine if you do it round your waist so the bra doesn't stretch too far. Bravissimo said so so it must be true! [maybe they just want to sell me more bras?]

Also, ILs, if your veg are grey when cooked, unlike any you have ever seen in an advert for eating veg or on any cookery programme, you are doing it WRONG!!! Ditto the meat. And especially the potatoes!!!

MadeMan · 01/07/2015 19:47

I've always brushed my teeth before eating and then just a quick slosh around the mouth a couple of times with water throughout the day after eating food, or drinking sugary drinks.

MadeMan · 01/07/2015 19:48

Drink lots of milk too as that's good for teeth.

BlueBananas · 01/07/2015 20:11

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour that would be a chucky egg! Boiled egg mashed with butter & salt served in a mug, proper comfort food Smile
I genuinely thought my family invented this, are we related??

DansonslaCapucine · 01/07/2015 20:21

ChandlerBong - egg mashed up in a cup was a treat in my house growing up.

I especially loved my Nana's version as she used real butter and salt.

DollyTwat · 01/07/2015 20:22

Bra swiveller here
Cold toast with butter is lush
Buttered toast dipped in hot sweet tea is RIGHT
I can't have shepherds pie without buttered toast - that's from my mum
She also used to have milk with ice cream which is very very wrong
Cheese on toast and salad cream is right

and

Chinese food you HAVE to make a volcano nest of fried rice and chips then put the main dish in the middle
Same for curry actually

SenecaFalls · 01/07/2015 20:30

I developed a taste for cold toast with butter (and toast racks) as a student in the UK. It is considered an odd thing to like in the US. Smile

binkiesandpopcorns · 01/07/2015 20:52

Delurking to add that my DH likes COLD mince sandwiches, the very thought makes me shudder.

Bahhhhhumbug · 01/07/2015 21:16

My DH puts the milk and sugar and tea bag in first. He also keeps chocolate in the fridge rendering it practically tasteless (imo). Worst thing he does wrong is when we go out for a meal. He insists on putting the money and tip on the plate with the bill and then when we leave HE PICKS IT UP AND TAKES IT TO THE TILL whether it be downstairs or wherever. I die a little every time. I've suggested to him that next time he takes a megaphone and announces to all our fellow diners that they all look a bit dodgy and therefore he is not leaving money lying around in case they 'ave it away.

Zebda · 01/07/2015 21:41

My GMIL, who is lovely but bonkers, makes homemade fruit compote and then throws it over the fence to feed the foxes. They love it apparently

^ this is genuinely WRONG sortingcat not only is compote a major fav in our house, but also a massive faff to make and turns a mountain of fruit into a meagre amount of compote - who would waste this on foxes?!

BikketBikketBikket · 01/07/2015 21:42

People, you are mocking my Great Family Tradition..! My Dad always had butter on his Weetabix, so do I, so does my DD - and now my DGD likes them Smile
My friend, on the other hand, puts butter on her (hot) BACON SANDWICHES...!!! Shock She says they're lovely - I say 'Yuk' Grin
Oh and all you bra-swivellers are deeply weird...arms in, boobs in and hooks done up at the back is the only way..!

SillyStuffBiting · 01/07/2015 23:08

Wait, sorry I only got to page 9 and have had something of a revelation.

You're meant to toast bagels?!

Garlick · 01/07/2015 23:17

Grin Silly, you silly! Cut 'em in half widthways.

WixingMords · 01/07/2015 23:20
Confused
SillyStuffBiting · 01/07/2015 23:22

No way! I always wondered why people went on about them, they just tasted like dry stodgy rubbish to me.

MadeMan · 01/07/2015 23:50

What else goes in a bagel apart from the obligatory cream cheese? Could you put corned beef in a bagel?

MrsHathaway · 01/07/2015 23:59

Cream cheese and naice ham in a toasted sesame seed bagel is pretty close to heaven.

Nutella and sliced banana pretty tidy too.

Dammit.

mortil2 · 02/07/2015 01:39

Can I just come in to add that a fishfinger sandwich ALWAYS has to be made with white bread. Brown is just very wrong

Offred · 02/07/2015 01:55

Xh in his unmodified state puts no butter on sandwiches, eventually he compromised on putting the amount of butter required for both sides on one side. He just wouldn't listen to reason. Butter sticks the sarnie together and stops things going soggy... Angry

He also once cut a bagel in half the wrong way...

I like guacamole, smoked salmon and brie on an onion bagel... nom
