People who are doing it WRONG

My Dad loves to talk about how he enjoys a good barbecue in this weather, once he even invited a lot of family round for one.

His version of a BBQ is a George Formby grill (natch), and in nice weather he plugs it in outside to cook a burger or sausage on. He is quite evangelical about how clever it is to barbecue that way.

It gives me the gritted teeth rage.

Anyone else who is doing it ALL WRONG? Offload here Brew

and you should all be dipping your chips into your milkshake. And your chicken nuggets, if DD is to be believed.

FraggleHair · 01/07/2015 15:25

Salty chips dipped in milkshake is lovely.

My grandpa used to put cream and jam on yorkshire puddings.

they are only pancakes cooked in the oven, lovely in fact

TheCunnyFunt · 01/07/2015 15:36

McDonalds fries dipped into a McFlurry is delicious Blush

NRomanoff · 01/07/2015 15:38

Yorkshire puddings with jam on are amazing!!' Yum!!!

MadeMan · 01/07/2015 15:39

Yes to McDonalds fries in the milkshakes and flurries. Smile

NRomanoff · 01/07/2015 15:39

I have been to the U.S. 8 times everyte the kettle has been rubbish! Maybe it's the kettles not the power supply

RabbitsarenotHares · 01/07/2015 15:41

I'm a swiveller I'm afraid - as PP said that's how I saw my ma put on her bra so I assumed that was the correct way of doing it. Shall attempt to do it up behind my back tomorrow (hopes someone is on standby to come and untie me when it all goes wrong!!!)

I also grew up with butter-free (or, rather, spread-free) sandwiches, though now it depends on the filling. Meat is a no-no, cheese and egg a definite yes. And I have converted to proper butter. I don't mind mayo or salad cream with meats (as introduced to me by a horrified American friend who wouldn't let me have a dry sandwich) but butter/spread just makes it too fatty for my liking. I would eat a buttered sandwich if given one (which I couldn't stomach when I was younger) but prefer them without.

My mother's big thing is cooking joints of meat in the oven until they are bone dry. How to ruin a perfectly lovely piece of meat in one easy step!

Gas bbq are not bbqs

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/07/2015 15:45

Fine example of doing it wrong seen today -
At a National Trust house. Saw someone having a picnic in the garden.
Why?
For goodness sake if you're going to be eating a picnic at least sit in one of the nice picnic areas, you know, the ones with the impressive view of the stately home you've paid to come and see or a lovely view of the beautiful grounds. But the car park?
Or better still, stuff the boring picnic and have yourself a National Trust cream tea in the café. Surely that's the actual point of going to a National Trust house in the first place?

WhattodowithMum · 01/07/2015 15:46

Of course they are.

But, it is irrelevant as no one BBQs here anyway.

haveabreakhaveakitkat · 01/07/2015 15:47

Dh makes his cuppa soup in a cup, then transfers it to a bowl Confused

FraggleHair · 01/07/2015 15:48

No they're not.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/07/2015 15:48

That should read CAR PARK not garden. My phone is another example of "doing it wrong" today. The processor must have melted in the heat.

MrsHathaway · 01/07/2015 15:50

Grin at the idea of couscous being left wing...

NRomanoff · 01/07/2015 15:51

Bbq is done in a pit. Away from the actual flames.

Bbqs here, if you are waiting until the coals go white is similar but not quite the same.

Cooking over an open flame on a gas bbq is nowhere near the same.

NRomanoff · 01/07/2015 15:51

And yes we have a bbq pit!

grapejuicerocks · 01/07/2015 15:52

Expert bra swiveller here. Swivel round waist, and catch boobs on the way up whilst leaning slightly forward.

Vinegar on mushy peas is obligatory.

Teeth before breakfast.

I am correct on all counts. This argument can now cease.

SchwarzwalderKirschtorte · 01/07/2015 15:55

I seem to remember a weetabix-style cereal back in the 70's called SunnyBisk which had serving suggestions of a SunnyBisk with jam is a good snack...

And then I googled and found this Advert:

Weetabix (3): 1981

Here’s one — full of natural wheat,
Here’s one — you can choose how to eat,
You can sweet it,
You can heat it,
You can eat it neat,
Here’s one that’s out on its own,
Here’s one — you can’t leave it alone!
You can chunk it,
You can dunk it,
You can eat it straight or decorate!
Here’s one full of wheat to the brim,
Here’s one — can’t get any more in!
Any way you want it — Weetabix,
It’s the one!

www.headington.org.uk/adverts/breakfast_cereals.htm

so now I don't know if it was Sunnybisk or Wetabix or just everyone advertised that you could eat them without milk and golden syrup. Which is of course, the correct way.

SchwarzwalderKirschtorte · 01/07/2015 15:57

D'oh! Heat is frazzling my brain.

I meant that Weetabix should only be eaten with milk and golden syrup.

TinyManticore · 01/07/2015 15:58

Bras fasten at the back, and it's easy to do (unless you have a disability that prevents it) honestly, you should have been practising since you were teens and then you'd be able to do it.

People who think marshmallows are called marshmellows do my head in. It's wrong wrong wrong. Ditto people who say or spell McDonald's as MacDonald's, but I don't know why it bothers me as much as it does.

Also the way my DH says the word 'similarity' - he puts a U sound in it, so it comes out as 'sim-yularity' Angry

simplethings · 01/07/2015 15:59

Ex partner used to eat cheese on toast without melting it Hmm

I swivel my bra, i just cannot do it up from the back. I also put milk in tea first, but i'm happy with the way i do these things Wink

FraggleHair · 01/07/2015 16:02

Your happiness is irrelevant, please correct these transgressions immediately.

muminhants1 · 01/07/2015 16:06

you should have been practising since you were teens and then you'd be able to do it.

I used front-fastening bras in my teens...

muminhants1 · 01/07/2015 16:10

until he met me, he'd never ever eaten beans on toast

I'm 43 and haven't either. I don't like baked beans! And yes I'm British!
