Parking on our drive.

We had a family day out today, and came back to someone parked on our drive. The car is still there. No sign of the owner.

Bloody cheek. Who does that?

I'd refuse to answer the door when they want their car back.

DorisLessingsCat · 28/06/2015 18:18

Love a parking thread Smile I hope it's a juicy one.

FeelingSmurfy · 28/06/2015 18:19

When they knock just say you don't know who's that car is, if someone you dont know can park in your drive then surely it's believable that someone you don't know could park in front of it

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/06/2015 18:19

This happened to my sister. They blocked him in ( no choice really as absolutely nowhere else to park near their house).

The driver turned up and was really angry about being blocked in. No apology offered or anything. BIL made him wait outside and finished eating his dinner before he moved the car.

Theresaflyinmyhouse · 28/06/2015 18:20

People are so weird. Are you sure it's not actually your car? Maybe you've gone back or forward in time? Or slipped into a worm hole?

Goldmandra · 28/06/2015 18:20

Perhaps it's a lovely gift from a secret admirer Grin

Lweji · 28/06/2015 18:20

You could also dent any knowledge about the car blocking them.
And mention something about everyone parking on and in front of your drive anyway. Who's to know who the car belongs to?

FeelingSmurfy · 28/06/2015 18:20

Oh and say its none of the neighbours because you know their cars...sorry I can't help...shut the door

Lweji · 28/06/2015 18:20

deny, not dent.
You don't want to deface their car, or yours.

CrohnicallyAspie · 28/06/2015 18:20

Didn't we have one once that was a simple case of mistaken identity? Mrs Smith of 1, Main Road said someone could park on her drive while they went on holiday, but they parked on Mrs Mumsnetter's at 1, Main Avenue instead?

wheresthelight · 28/06/2015 18:20

It's not illegal to lock an empty drive it irks to block a drive that has a car on it iirc. But it's classed as a civil matter so the police probably wouldn't give a toss unfortunately.

Shameless marking my place though and passing out the chocolate biscuits

Great minds, and all that. :)

Wow I would be fuming

peaches1999 · 28/06/2015 18:23

It's been there for two hours now since we arrived back. we are giving it til 7pm and going call 101 report it as abandoned.

Is it legal to BLOCK someone's drive while they're not in it or is it legal to PARK in someone's drive while they're not in it?

ZenNudist · 28/06/2015 18:24

Surely they're trespassing or something. How can it be legal to park on any old persons drive and then illegal to block them in.

KatoPotato · 28/06/2015 18:25

Settling in...

PrincessOfChina · 28/06/2015 18:27

I would report as abandoned now assuming you've checked with a few neighbours. That way we can all hear the update quicker Grin

CardinalRed · 28/06/2015 18:28

Excellent move to block them in.
Awaiting further developments

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 28/06/2015 18:28

How rude, I cannot imagine ever having the neck to park on a random drive. I am now following with interest Grin.

Lweji · 28/06/2015 18:28

You could get your car jack to lift one front wheel, put a skate board under the wheel (I wonder if it will take the weight), then on the other side, and push the car onto the road. Then repeat in reverse.

Alternatively, get the neighbours to help you lift the front and push it out.

amarmai · 28/06/2015 18:29

BlueThursday · 28/06/2015 18:29

Do you live near an airport or anything? My friend lives in prestwick and this type of thing happens all the time!

SabrinnaOfDystopia · 28/06/2015 18:30

Shock plenty of cars parking over driveways ime - but on driveways? I would not hesitate to block them in with my car - and take a very long time to answer the door/move my car again.

I threw potato peelings at the last car that parked over our drive.

In our experience, police are just not interested in driveway blocking - we contacted the PCSO last time, and you can have them towed if you're blocked in, and need to get your car out - but I reckon by the time we'd have got that requested the person will have moved anyway...
