To not understand the obsession, amongst grown adults, with fucking Minions?

My FB news feed.constantly gets clogged up with 'likes' and 'shares' of cheesy quotes from the 'Minions Quotes' page (what have they even got to do with Minions apart from the fact there is one standing next to the words?), videos of 'A Minion kiss, just for you' etc, and pictures of Minions knitted hats, Minions cakes, Minions high heeled stilettos, Minions glittery shit wine glasses, the list goes on.

I have 'half' watched Despicable Me, it was alright. Am I missing something here or am I really just friends with a bunch of infantilised twats?

I read it literally, as in "obsessed by fucking minions" or as they used to say: rogering the maids.

Poor minions, being constantly fucked by all these fb people!

Stop the minion rape!

Esmesgirls · 29/06/2015 16:17

DD2 (3) is terrified of minions! She definetly agrees with you!

JinglyJanglyJungleBigGameTours · 29/06/2015 16:18

Well, I'd argue it's better to read Harry Potter than say, Heat magazine.

I don't get the objections though. I enjoyed Harry Potter, I also enjoy adult fiction and non fiction. They're not mutually exclusive.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/06/2015 16:23

Me too, Jingly - in fact, well-written children's fiction can be really pleasurable to read.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2015 16:28

I think they're popular because they're completely innocent, very silly and totally joyful.

They appeal to our silliness and we all need silliness.

ppolly · 29/06/2015 16:33

I would argue that some children's fiction (not necessarily Harry Potter) is a great deal better than a lot of adult fiction.

I'm not especially disturbed by minions on my Facebook feed, they are harmless enough and it will all wear off soon.

DorisLessingsCat · 29/06/2015 16:38

I want a minion or 50 to look after all the crap Envy

But I also want a night fury (HTTYD) and Baloo the Bear.

FenellaFellorick · 29/06/2015 16:43

It's fairly dull being a grown up. sometimes it's fun to be silly.

Minions isn't my thing but my god don't let me near a swing or a slide Grin

I can't imagine not being daft once in a while. I like to think you're truly a grown up when you finally realise you don't have to be a grown up all the time.

SistersofPercy · 29/06/2015 17:21

Minions amuse me greatly (especially when saying bottom Grin) but I have to admit those bloody Facebook life quotes annoy the shit out of me. I think I've managed to block most of the sites now along with a few non minion irritations (Aunty Acid I'm looking at you!) but it's taken me about 6 months to get a minion free timeline.

Memes aside, I find being grown up overrated.

kissmethere · 29/06/2015 18:11

I like them but the minion film wasn't as funny as it should have been. Was really amazed at the amount of men and women without kids in the cinema. I don't get the adult obsession with them.

We went to see the film yesterday - it was one of my more enjoyable kid cinema experiences and we were all laughing at the jokes. I've sat through so many shit films for my DC so this was a pleasant surprise - for this reason YABU I'm afraid, there's a lot worse out there than Minions!

SistersofPercy · 29/06/2015 23:34

Ok, have now seen the movie (just dh and I, no kids Blush) most disappointed in no utterance of the word bottom, but I do rather love little Bob.

My stance on minion memes has not changed.

MidniteScribbler · 30/06/2015 03:09

Someone needs to explain to me the link between breast cancer and minions as this one keeps appearing on my facebook page.

WellErrr · 30/06/2015 10:37

I have never seen the film and never never will, all because of those fucking awful memes.

mimishimmi · 30/06/2015 10:47

I've never seen the Despicable Me films but saw Minions today with DS. It was breathtakingly ....dull. I started dozing off at numerous points. It was just trite and no witty humour (unlike the Pixar films which I love) at all . I couldn't understand or brlieve it when audience started cheering at the end, including the adults.

SophieJenkins · 30/06/2015 10:53

I'm happy not to be on Facebook if it's ruining the joy of minions.

I love minions.

I don't obsess about them but I may have recently bought a Pop vinyl Carl from the bargain bin in Halfords because I felt sorry for him Blush

The films are actually very, very very funny indeed and I laughed probably every 30 seconds throughout the second one.

I don't like many kids' films but it was seriously good. Smile

MNHQ could we please have a minion emoji, just for a week or two? to save Sarah the trouble Grin

avocadotoast · 05/07/2015 18:57

Soooo I saw this on FB just now and thought of this thread straight away... A minion wedding. Seriously.

Some people really need to grow up and that includes you, Harry Potter reader

Well, you'd love me then as I love minions AND all the Harry Potter books.
If you've never read Harry Potter, don't knock it.
As for the minions, love them too. Loved both Despicable Me's and the minion movie. Although I really don't get the Facebook quote thing though, as MINIONS BARELY TALK and it's all twee sap stuff anyway so I never post them. Smile

thelostboy · 05/07/2015 20:45

Don't get me wrong, I quite like the Minions, but I certainly don't want to fuck them!

craftysewer · 05/07/2015 21:02

There was a Minion themed wedding near us yesterday Hmm
