WIBU to keep my son off school for this?

Fantoosh · 26/06/2015 14:55

So I had a hairdresser appointment this morning for 9.30. I desperately needed a cut and colour before going on holiday next week.

Unfortunately my dd was sick at 7.30am...although she seemed fine afterwards. This meant I had to keep her off school.
Given that the chances of getting another appointment in time for the hols was zero, was I bu to call in a sicky for my eldest son (14) this morning to watch her while I kept the appointment I had? Fridays are a half day at school anyway here.

My hair is looking great now but I don't know if I did the right thing.
What would you have done?

Trashy?

I let my DS have an afternoon off once to wait for the Sky repair man.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 16:58

What are you doing getting sky??? how irresponsible you or your dh or dc have to have an afternoon off. your putting tv over jobs and education. tut tut.

you should have a job that does hours that accommodate installation staff

YouTheCat · 26/06/2015 16:58

Usual, you should have predicted that, calculated the probability of Sky breaking and made sure you had already pre-booked that day off from work.

How will these poor children ever get into a RG university?

Sparklingbrook · 26/06/2015 16:59

I think when the mother posts on MN in AIBU about what she decided to do with HER children there may be some opinions.....

Starting the thread was a bit of an odd thing to do, especially after the event and being so sure it was absolutely fine anyway. Grin

LashesandLipstick · 26/06/2015 17:01

They never had a chance at going to an RG university anyway, I bet they weren't in rearward facing seats until 4 and were given a biscuit at 5 months old

faints loudly

usualsuspect333 · 26/06/2015 17:01

Don't fret . he works full time now and hasn't had a day off sick in over a year.

YouTheCat · 26/06/2015 17:02

Oh Lashes! The horror!

Lavenderice · 26/06/2015 17:04

You were completely unreasonable, you broke the law, you are a crap role model for your son and you sound entirely vacuous.

Oooh, I feel so much better now that's said.

Fantoosh · 26/06/2015 17:05

Lashes I just can't even begin to imagine the depravity!

Farmacy · 26/06/2015 17:07

This thread has made me laugh! What is the worst she will have taught her son? To lighten up once in a while and that following the rules to a T every minute of your life is just silly. Do you all only have 3 month olds? If any of you have adult or teens children and are being judgey then you are flat out lying to yourselves that you have never done anything "wrong" with your children. Or that you have never done anything that others wouldnt judge you on.

FLAT
OUT
LYING!

LashesandLipstick · 26/06/2015 17:07

You know how it goes, miss a morning of school and all of a sudden you're selling crack to hookers behind the local chippy.

Fantoosh · 26/06/2015 17:08

Steady on Lavender!

Yes.

That's what we've all said.

Confused
Sparklingbrook · 26/06/2015 17:10

Blimey Farmacy. Confused

GoblinLittleOwl · 26/06/2015 17:11

Simply: I despair.

00100001 · 26/06/2015 17:12

It;s easy to jest about "just a morning of school"

but the attitude some people have to education in this country is pretty shocking.

You have countries in this world where girls are denied and education, countries where parents work their butts off to pay for their child's education. They would not say "lighten up" or anything of the sort, they'd be aghast that we have such a HUGE privilege and we just go "eeeeehhhh, you know what? My hair being dyed is far more important"

It's embarassing really.

usualsuspect333 · 26/06/2015 17:12

Someone needs to call 101 and SS and possibly MI5 and the SAS.

YouTheCat · 26/06/2015 17:13

I called Ghostbusters.

PotKettleInterfaceSituation · 26/06/2015 17:13

OP - AIBU to judge the woman I saw today who was throttling her child with a packet of licorice shoelaces while calling him a cunt?

MN - YABVU! You don't know what sort of day she's had! Poor woman! MYOB and stop judging! It could have been worse! At least he probably gets sent to school every day and gets an education!

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 17:14

Well fan this is MN. where you'd be unreasonable fir not leaving your body when your in a coma and making falafel fir your kids lunch.

occasionally shit happens we have to.improvise. It's not as if she was in a drunken stupor in bed and the teen was rolling the joints fir her

00100001 · 26/06/2015 17:16

err insisting on only going to one hairdresser and pulling your child out of school to facilitate that isn't "shit happens" Confused

Sparklingbrook · 26/06/2015 17:16

Well it's been a lovely distraction from RL but I'm out as this thread is becoming increasingly bonkers.

I hope you and your hair enjoy your holiday OP.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 17:18

The kid being sick and having an appointment you stand to be charged for if you don't attend would qualify as shit happens fir sure.

usualsuspect333 · 26/06/2015 17:19

No Sparkling,stay. Bonkers is good.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/06/2015 17:20

I am lmao at all the pearl clutching and pant hoiking here Grin

If a RL friend told me this I'd go "Ooooo you naughty girl...does that mean we've got time to go for a drink as well?"

Hope you have fab hair and an equally fab holiday
