AIBU?

To be distinctly peeved that my thread was treated as spam.

It was a link to a really important National Autistic Society survey.

I posted it in AIBU for traffic. Lots of people signed.

But then it was banished to some godforsaken corner of MN. Because someone reported it as spam Angry Sad

While I don't think YABU and I wouldn't have reported it, I do think you need to realise that we all have our own causes and charities that represent our daily lives. If lots of us posted, it would spam the boards.

I've managed to find and complete the survey, but I do feel that MNHQ could have stickied it rather than banishing it, as it fits so well with their ethos and the campaign they support to include children with disabilities.

It's an important survey which could make a real difference. It's hardly simple consumer research or "Vote for my child in this pageant".

Indeed.

Perhaps I should clarify.

The link is a surveymonkey survey for completion for people with ASCs, parents/carers of children with ASCs or professionals working with children with ASCs to complete about their experiences of daily living.

The results will be used to inform an upcoming campaign to promote and improve public understanding of Autism.

In that sense, the link is not hoping to garner support for a charity, as such.

Also Maggie, with your permission, can we change the title for your initial thread (we've made the link clickable) to make it clear who should be filling it out? It's for those who live with autism or who care for those who do, yes?

We can see that NAS are planning a major awareness campaign in 2016 from the survey and we'll be sure to let our campaigns team know about this.

I do wonder about people and why they think their special case is more special than anyone else's.

So why is it ok to link to a personality test for example, like the one in discussions of the day, but not to a survey?

And for relevant professionals, yes.

That's great. Thanks.

I don't think the original decision was disablist; it was in line with the MN's standard that surveys are, technically against the rules. And yes, this is a TAAT, but MNHQ's comment addresses this and is, in my opinion, a very fair response.

Thanks for your comment, Nicki. I wouldn't normally bite, but for some reason I couldn't ignore the keyboard warriors here.

That was a chatty thread in Chat. Not a survey link in aibu.

And I wonder about people who can't think outside the box and see that some people things need addressing on an individual basis rather than just ranting "rules are rules". Shows rather limited thought processes to me.

They're both something someone has seen and thought other people might be interested in. It's not Maggie's own survey. And people post things in AIBU all the time that aren't strictly AIBUs.

I completed it as a parent llama so I'm not sure.

It does apparently select participants on the first page - so maybe try it and see?

But I've seen plenty of links to petitions in threads - and they haven't been pulled. Threads on Ched Evans and abortion spring to mind
