AIBU?

To be distinctly peeved that my thread was treated as spam.

It was a link to a really important National Autistic Society survey.

I posted it in AIBU for traffic. Lots of people signed.

But then it was banished to some godforsaken corner of MN. Because someone reported it as spam Angry Sad

even if people are objecting to it, at least it is being noticed,

Horrid disablist decision mnhq

Oh, nonsense. I have Asperger's and agree with MN. AIBU is not the place for surveys, etc no what matter the topic is.

I think there's lots more than 1% or us, though.

Yes, I do too Ellen.

So one small success!

It asks if you're a professional working in the field of autism - I don't think I can really say that I am as ASD isn't my predominant professional interest (it's more of an incidental thing if that makes any sense!)

Yes, what a shame. At least you tried Smile

I've done it, though it does seem to assume professionals working with people with autism are all doing support for daily living confused

Oh I see. Hmm

well, I've seen this thread and I've filled in the survey. I didn't clock the other thread before it got moved.

I spotted the first thread and filled it in.

My understanding is that there's a large minority of posters on MN with DC with SN (most common SN being ASD/AS or similar) and quite a few posters with DXed or unDxed ASD themselves. I guess we were either brought here by the SN topic and stayed for the LOLs or perhaps have difficulty maintaining RL friendships due to caring responsibilities or maybe find socialising by forum suits our personalities. Or coincidence. After all at least 1/100 are DXed with ASD. I think there's lots more than 1% or us, though.

Thanks, Maggie. Flowers

Sounds fair enuff from mumsnet and well explained

They were definitely not being unreasonable but I hope that you feel less cross now that they have given you an explanation of why they applied the rules

To clarify - we don't PULL threads with petitions or links to surveys.
But we will move them to their specific topic.

But I've seen plenty of links to petitions in threads - and they haven't been pulled. Threads on Ched Evans and abortion spring to mind

I completed it as a parent llama so I'm not sure.

It does apparently select participants on the first page - so maybe try it and see?

They're both something someone has seen and thought other people might be interested in. It's not Maggie's own survey. And people post things in AIBU all the time that aren't strictly AIBUs.

And I wonder about people who can't think outside the box and see that some people things need addressing on an individual basis rather than just ranting "rules are rules". Shows rather limited thought processes to me.

So why is it ok to link to a personality test for example, like the one in discussions of the day, but not to a survey?

That was a chatty thread in Chat. Not a survey link in aibu.

I don't think the original decision was disablist; it was in line with the MN's standard that surveys are, technically against the rules. And yes, this is a TAAT, but MNHQ's comment addresses this and is, in my opinion, a very fair response.

Thanks for your comment, Nicki. I wouldn't normally bite, but for some reason I couldn't ignore the keyboard warriors here.

Also Maggie, with your permission, can we change the title for your initial thread (we've made the link clickable) to make it clear who should be filling it out? It's for those who live with autism or who care for those who do, yes?

And for relevant professionals, yes.

That's great. Thanks.
