day off school for family day out

ghostspirit · 25/06/2015 20:59

would you let your children have a day of school for a day out?

OP posts:
formerbabe · 25/06/2015 21:00

No! Unless I had distant relatives coming over from abroad for one day only!

SoupDragon · 25/06/2015 21:00

No.

Grewupinafield · 25/06/2015 21:01

I think you need to expand on the circumstance

chairmeoh · 25/06/2015 21:01

No. But mainly because it would mean me taking a precious day of annual leave too, which is better used during school hols.
My DD is 7, I do think age and time of year (sats etc) is also a factor.

bridgetsmummy · 25/06/2015 21:01

No, not when the summer hols are coming up

Klayden · 25/06/2015 21:02

Nope but I am mean.

odyssey2001 · 25/06/2015 21:03

No. That is what weekend and holidays are for.

Nativity3 · 25/06/2015 21:03

Yes. I am sure I go against the grain but I really don't see the issue!

Go and have a nice day out! I've done it!

It's a much more pleasant experience than going in the summer holidays!

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2015 21:03

No

AnyoneForTennis · 25/06/2015 21:03

No

Why?

bobajob · 25/06/2015 21:04

In the last couple of weeks of the summer term, yes.

crustsaway · 25/06/2015 21:04

Depends on the age of the child. If under 10, yes of course.

FuzzyWizard · 25/06/2015 21:04

Is it for Wimbledon? If it was then possibly... For legoland not so much. Depends on age of the child and whether the day out was something that could be done at another time.

formidable · 25/06/2015 21:04

No, why not wait until the holidays?

DementedSwan · 25/06/2015 21:05

No, unless it's a family wedding or the only day distant close relatives are around.

Family days are for holidays and weekends (if work schedule allows).

Mine are reception and nursery age and I wouldn't allow it. Maybe I'm mean Confused

Ragwort · 25/06/2015 21:06

Very, very unlikely - and never have & DS is 14 now. Depends what it is for - perhaps if it was a family funeral but not for a 'jolly'.

Days out happen at weekends or during the school holidays - more than enough time for days out.

formerlyofLadysmith · 25/06/2015 21:07

Yes, possibly. Depends on the circumstances.

I wouldn't keep my Y2 child out to go to our local museum for the day... But I may well keep them off school in the next few weeks, when I am expecting DC3, we will need to go visit dying FIL, and SIL is visiting from overseas.

Depends what it is

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 25/06/2015 21:09

I would if it was a special day out as a one off but my dp works all weekend and isn't really allowed to book them off.

msgrinch · 25/06/2015 21:09

No there's plenty of time in the holidays, term time days off are for emergencies and bereavements not family days out. I'd have to take annual leave and face a fine for unauthorised absence, more than enough time in the many holidays my ds has.

Sirzy · 25/06/2015 21:10

No.

duplodon · 25/06/2015 21:13

Yes, I do it all the time.. Maybe six or seven days over the year. But I don't live in the UK and it is a normal enough thing to do here.

AnyoneForTennis · 25/06/2015 21:13

This time of year is when the new term starts for many schools.......it's a myth that the last few weeks of summer term are spent playing games and watching DVDs.

JeffTheGodOfBiscuits · 25/06/2015 21:17

Yes.
