Given the number of parents at my DC's school who take them out for 2 weeks at a time for family holidays, I think that yes I would be tempted to for a one off big day out. Never have done though.

FuzzyWizard · 25/06/2015 21:41

You will find chessington Jam packed with school trips at this time of year I'm afraid. Had you gone last week or the week before you might have stood a chance but in the next couple of weeks it'll be heaving on weekdays. (I've accompanied enough trips where to the theme parks to know you're often lucky to get on more than 3 rides in a day at this time of year.

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2015 21:41

Oh and at our primary the kids are starting a topic that will take them into next year so time off impacts next year too.
Can't afford it or don't want to queue? Choose a summer treat other than Chessington!

ilovechristmas1 · 25/06/2015 21:42

for theme park no way, cheap tickets or not

they are always doing offers

really cant see how you can justify that one

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 25/06/2015 21:43

No.

RiverTam · 25/06/2015 21:44

of course the reason matters. Your reason is feeble, imo. If you had said your mum was visiting from Canada and would only be around in the week, that would be a good reason. Getting a cheap deal at a glorified funfair isn't. It's very disrespectful to the staff as well.

bostonbaby · 25/06/2015 21:45

Yes I do it

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 25/06/2015 21:49

broadbeanstew your school should be applying to the Attendance Strategy Team to have fines imposed on those parents. Unless your Head is authorising those absences, which he/she certainly shouldn't be.

ghostspirit · 25/06/2015 21:51

disrespectful to staff? not saying im right im just saying i dont think there are any good reasons to be off school unless its compasionate leave. same as my reason is not a good reason. to me its a logic reason but not a good reason. this will be the 1st and last day of. my kids have had during the school year. i have asked would you let your child have a day of school for a family day one some have said yes some have said no.

OP posts:
Apricota · 25/06/2015 21:51

No, what a poor example to set.

RiverTam · 25/06/2015 21:54

That is totally garbled, I have no idea what you're trying to say. And no, it's not the first day your kids have had off, unless they went to school at half term and in the holidays.

ghostspirit · 25/06/2015 21:57

i said first day of in the school year. meaning during the term time

OP posts:
kinkyfuckery · 25/06/2015 22:00

Not for that reason, no.

Besides, many schools have already broken off for summer.

RiverTam · 25/06/2015 22:05

But so what? They have 13 weeks holiday a year, why do they need a day off in term time to go to chessington? Will you be telling the school that's why they aren't at school?

LynetteScavo · 25/06/2015 22:07

I would but I can't because I work term time only.

Not for Chessington though! Why would you do that to yourself? Confused

JointheJoyride · 25/06/2015 22:08

Yes. One day I would. Everyone here will say no but if you ask anyone in RL they'll wonder why you even asked.

whatstheplanphil · 25/06/2015 22:09

Yes

JammyGeorge · 25/06/2015 22:09

Yes I would

NickiFury · 25/06/2015 22:09

Certainly Smile.

WorraLiberty · 25/06/2015 22:09

Why do so many Mumsnetters say their kids have 100% attendance when they want to keep them off, or take them on holiday?

It's as though sending them to school every day, means they're entitled to more holiday time than any other pupil.

Do the same people chuck a sicky at work because they've almost made it to 10 months without a day off?

usualsuspect333 · 25/06/2015 22:12

Yes. Ignore the ridiculous 'don't have kids' comments.

ghostspirit · 25/06/2015 22:16

usual that did seem bit of an odd thing to say

Starlightbright1 · 25/06/2015 22:19

I think yabu to ask on mumsnet when there will always be a core of people who will see it as wrong no matter what.

Sirzy · 25/06/2015 22:20

I agree worra I often wonder the same thing.
