to ignore my colleagues request to close the window because of their hey fever

I just don't believe him. He takes breaks outside to smoke and goes outside for his lunch. Surely if his hayfeaver was that bad he'd stay inside?

I hate having all the windows closed in the summer as its stale and stuffy.

Looking at his eyes they seem fine also. Aibu?

Tell him to take some Claritin ffs. I would not be happy about not having fresh air circulating in the summer months.

Pollen count is really high this week so do sympathise. Not that i agree with fag breaks but 5 mins outside doing that is not the same as window open all day. I take antihistamine daily but am still suffering badly. Do u have a fan in the office? This would keep u cool and help his symptoms

I think you just don't like him, hayfever is not a made-up thing and people can suffer enough to be off work with it. I think you need to compromise, just as you would if it was someone you liked.

so he comes in smelling of cigarette smoke and you all have to suffer that by keeping windows closed?? he doesn't care about his health really does he? sounds like he enjoys the 'control' hay fever gives him

I think YABU. I'm suffering terribly with it at the moment, even after taking antihistamines. Yesterday, I sneezed about 50 times in a row just from an open window.

I'm obviously not saying hayfeaver is made up, just his. Haven't heard him sneeze once.

Thanks tennis I think it is about control. Its just hard to argue when someone claims a medicial condition.

My hay fever is awful this year despite taking antihistamines. Lots of people suffering this year
It's irrelevant he smokes. A short trip outside is not the same as having the Windows open all day

he should be taking his nightly hay fever tablet such as Cetrelief, like the rest of us hay fever sufferers.
then he wouldn't having any symptoms at all.

My hayfever is pretty bad at the moment. I'm not sneezing because the windows are shut, but if they were open all day I'd feel pretty rubbish. And I do go out to get myself a sandwich, which is generally ok. Its the all day thing thats a problem. Although now I've started thinking about it my nose has started to run again. Arghhhh!

Why are people so dismissive of hayfeaver?

My son was In hospital last Tuesday because of hayfeaver, it triggered a respiratory attack and he had to stay two nights. That's the second time this year he's Been in due to it

spog oh for us all to be cured of all our symptoms with just one magic pill - DS9 is on 5 separate medicines for his at the moment and that is jst to be able to get him to muddle through - I agree with wankerchief about the dismissal of this condition being so benign (and to OP DS seems fine during the day but the cumulative exposure to pollen during the day often means by bedtime he is really suffering and can barely open his eyes)

I suffer terribly from hayfever, but still like the windows open, I take prescription strength anti-histamines, I put vaseline up my nose and wear wrap round glasses, having the window open is just fine.

My hayfever has gone into overdrive recently. Pollen count is high and the weather mavens have red warning signs over most of the UK.

But my windows are open, it is too stuffy otherwise. I manage it with the tablets... as should all adults.

Kids are obviously a different kettle of sniffles

My husband takes his hay fever tablets but some days they just don't touch the sides. Thankfully for him his workplace understand and have a fabulous aircon system so everyone is happy and cool without it affecting him.

Just because someone is not sneezing or coughing doesn't mean it is not affecting them, with dh it affects his eyes first meaning if it gets too bad he cannot see to do his work properly, he has sneezing fits but he could go 2 hours without one then sneeze continuely for 10-20minutes, his cough comes all though the night keeping us all awake. His also asthmatic.

Sorry I garbled on but yabu.

Not everyone sneezes with hay fever. Most do, but that's only one bit of it.

After 4 supposedly 1-a-day antihistamines, I'm not sneezing but I still feel like death.

But, YANBU. He can't expect everyone to work in a stuffy office.

I think you should Vaseline him all over, wrap him completely in cling film and then open all the Windows and set fire to him, but remember to put his sunglasses back on first

I have hayfever/asthma and take antihistamine when the pollen count is high. An open window even with antihistamine could be very problematic.

However, I'm sceptical about someone whose selective hayfever doesn't prevent them fagging up/eating lunch outside.

Has he said why he wants the windows closed? Is he cold/struggling to hear on the phone due to outside noise?

YABU. Pollen count is really high today and it's not up to you to decide if he's faking or not. I've been taking my antihistamines daily for the last month but for the past week or so I've still been suffering. Get a desk fan if you need air circulating every day and don't have aircon.

OP, yabu to be so dismissive of someone's allergy. It can be utterly miserable.

I would say to him you're happy to have the windows closed providing he stops the fag breaks so you're not subjected to his stale fag smoke all day

I do not think you are being unreasonable. I think the hayfever brigade on here are being UR. We all have our own issues to deal with. Yes there are different strains of hayfever and I don't doubt people suffer horrendously from it but he does not sound like one of these people. Compromise,open/close every half hour.

Yeah, I am such a numpty!

However hay fever in adults is a manageable condition for the vast majority of sufferers. You just have to stick at it and not forget all about it in between bouts...

It is just as naïve to assume that everyone who claims to have a medical need must automatically trump the needs of all others.

I am laughing at the hypocrisy of some posts here
