Virtually everyone has said they cry at the end of this kids book but I bought it to read with the wee one this evening and...nothing. I wasn't quite sure what bit I was supposed to find emotional other than the poor wee bugger who's got sniffles and coughs Hmm

Am I just a cold hearted bitch or is there something I'm missing?

OMG. I accidentally posted after page 1, not realizing there were 3.

Now just read the whole thread.

My, my, aren't we a soppy lot tonight!

Hugs for all you soppy MN-ers!

And DEF agree with
For a while we thought we may never have children thanks to DH's cancer treatment, so being a mother with a baby boy still seemed quite miraculous to me. (I need to remember that feeling when the DCs are driving me crazy these days).

It too us 6 years to produce our DD for exactly that reason! So with you!

SingingSamosa · 24/06/2015 23:17

I quite liked that book and read it often to my children. I don't think any of their stories have ever made me cry though! I haven't read Dogger so am prepared to be emotional if needs be!

BikeRunSki · 24/06/2015 23:42

"... And she came...." Mawsy. Love Owl Babies, shame my DC don't.

yellowcurtains · 24/06/2015 23:52

Oh. "And then Bella did something very kind"

waaaahhhh

MiscellaneousAssortment · 25/06/2015 00:20

Do you think a 5yr old DS would still like any of these?

(Pleading loaded question!)

I've stopped reading them sonehow and even worse, bedtime stories have become pushed out and rushed for the last few months as school give so many things to do at home we have to do their reading instead.

I'm revolting :) home books need reinstating!!!!

AGnu · 25/06/2015 00:52

Love You Forever is creepy. I've not read it as an adult but I remember it being read to my little sister... It was like a ghost story or something.

Peepo gets to me though. I've googled & not found any evidence that it was about his dad. All the articles talk about him being adopted due to being illegitimate & reference either his parents or his mother. No mention of his father specifically other than to say that he was told "wait until your father gets home" type things. One or 2 do say that he has identified himself as the Peepo baby but absolutely nothing about it being the last time he saw his dad. I shall cling to the thought that it might not be true & the wonderful man who did so much while the mum had a snooze might actually have been real & continued to be a supportive husband/father throughout the children's youth! Wink

ChwatFeechers · 25/06/2015 01:01

Ahh Peepo gives me a massive lump in my throat.

MitzyLeFrouf · 25/06/2015 01:22

I'll Love you Forever makes me blub. In fact I've just read it again and may me blubbing now.

The only lolz moment is when the mother breaks into her adult son's home and crawls along the floor to watch him sleep.

'AIBU to think my MIL shouldn't be breaking into our bedroom.....'

Yes, it effected me that much!

MitzyLeFrouf · 25/06/2015 01:26

AGnu I think I'll cling with you re. Peepo! The alternative is unbearable.

houseHuntinginmanchester · 25/06/2015 01:40

Just read love you forever and couldn't help but think of the mother crawling across grown sons floor in the dead of night as an mn talk of the day... Pissing myself imagining the replies GrinGrin

Sorry to spoil the mood Grin

What!! It never occurred to me to cry at the end of Ten Little Fingers and I have been reading it to DS pretty much every day for 3 months. It irritates the shit out of me! I don't think the drawings are very good and the bit about the baby being born on the ice really irks me, no babie are born in Antarctica which is where penguins come from (but I suppose showing a polar bear would be rather less benign). DS seems to like it though.

I also bloody hate the Little Yellow Digger which should be a called A Clusterfuck of Incompetent Digger Drivers. Why does the little yellow digger emerge as the hero when it started the whole mess in the first place? (Clearly overthinking it).

Thank god for Hairy McLarey & the excellent Scarface Claw.

Trickydecision · 25/06/2015 06:23

Goodbye Mog.
I am compelled to read it and torture myself whenever I see it in a bookshop and then snivel behind the bookcases.
Thank heaven the DGCs do not have it at home.

weeblueberry · 25/06/2015 06:29

I'll definitely agree with Goodbye Mog. We don't even own that one and it brings a lump to my throat. DP read the first page in a bookshop before our first baby was born and I looked at him with horror and told him to put it back.

Although we will probably need the book before long. damn mortal cats

Peepo? Really? I've just returned it to the library after 1 read through because I found it so frustrating to read!

It's the ITNG theme tune which gets me.

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with second baby (lost first) all these books make me cry, esp 'Someday' and once their were giants....i have no idea how im going to read aloud in the future! :S

Dowser · 25/06/2015 06:47

I think I must be missing the Peepo gene ;-)

Loved all those books when the kids were little. The giant jam sandwich. Fantastic.

Stanley bagshaw and the 14 foot wheel. No roses for Harry. One of the funniest books I've ever read. The trouble with mum....excellent book. Loved them all and the fact they only took about 10 minutes to read.

I used to buy one a week. Tried reading the Beatrix potter stories to my grandson and gave up. Long winded. Went on forever and sometimes had difficult concepts to explain to a small child. Brought out his dads books from the loft and it was just plain sailing.

Almost wish I hadn't given them all away to their parents now. I really enjoyed them myself.

DeidreChambersWhatACoincidence · 25/06/2015 07:02

I remember we all went to see the film Charlottes Web and I just didn't get it. The 'some pig' bit...what was that about? Confused It probably didn't help that I dozed off.

NittyDora · 25/06/2015 07:12

Oh Fay, that's so sad.
Stickman always makes me cry too, it his sad wee children and then Santa bringing him home and then 'I'm sticking right here in the family tree'.
