To not quite see the fuss with Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes?

Virtually everyone has said they cry at the end of this kids book but I bought it to read with the wee one this evening and...nothing. I wasn't quite sure what bit I was supposed to find emotional other than the poor wee bugger who's got sniffles and coughs Hmm

Am I just a cold hearted bitch or is there something I'm missing?

I'm one who can't actually read this book without floods of tears. I've actually had to take it off the bookshelf as I literally cannot read it outloud. DS was a long time coming to us (5 years and three rounds of IVF) and there were many times I never thought I'd have a baby to call mine ...... so the ending rather touches a sensitive nerve .....

And as for 'Love you Forever' ......

NotYouNaanBread · 24/06/2015 20:40

What's the one where the little girl sees herself as an old lady in the woods or something? I SOBBED in Barefoot Books once over that one. It's v popular in the US, I think? I saw it and picked it up to roll my eyes about sentimental Americans, and then the sentimental Americans got their revenge on me. #sobbing

molyholy · 24/06/2015 20:43

One True Bear. Oh my god. I have read this book so many times, but I cry every time I read it to my dd. Breaks my heart.

haveabreakhaveakitkat · 24/06/2015 20:44

Not Now Bernard upset me so much I put it in the charity box

JustOneMoreSliceOfCakePlease · 24/06/2015 20:47

Cute book but I can imagine crying at it..

GloGirl · 24/06/2015 20:50

I'll Love You Forever...

I'll Cry Forever more like! Thought I'd never stop

Stealthpolarbear · 24/06/2015 20:51

"I often shed a tear at the goodnight song on CBeebies"
Yes me too. Tears of relief and exhaustion

ReluctantCamper · 24/06/2015 20:52

haveabreak , Not Now Bernard is a guilt vest for me. Would I notice if a monster ate on the the DCs? WOULD I???

ReluctantCamper · 24/06/2015 20:52

Obviously I mean guilt fest, not vest

Bah!

Fishandjam · 24/06/2015 20:56

Peepo is definitely blubsome. So is Snail & Whale. But the one that really chokes me is a lovely book called "The Winter Cat" by an American author called Howard Knotts. Basically a story about a stray cat who is adopted by children, but written lyrically and with beautiful pen and ink illustrations. I get as far as "'Look! Homer is home!' And the house is warm and it feels like summer" and just snivel.

Hottypotty · 24/06/2015 20:59

'The paper dolls' kills me every time

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 24/06/2015 21:05

I never used to cry at anything before I had kids.

Now I'm reduced to an emotional wreck by the In The Night Garden theme tune Confused amongst many MANY way way too many other things Confused

ItMustBeBunnies · 24/06/2015 21:05

Definitely agree with Peepo being a tear-jerker.

Also, The Christmas Day Kitten by James Herriot and Goodbye, Mog by Judith Kerr.

kathhere · 24/06/2015 21:07

Oh yes Hottypotty the Paper Dolls made me sob. Not the snipping but the growing up (hope that's not a spoiler). Wept buckets at the thought of my girls being that grown up

wigglesrock · 24/06/2015 21:10

BikeRunSki - I saw Shadowlands with my husband - I cried, I practically had to carry him out of the pictures - he was in floods and not manly tears, huge wracking sobs.

I don't get Peepo, I actually hadn't heard of Peepo until someone mentioned it on MN - mustn't be big where I am. Owl Babies made me sniffle a bit - the little owls waiting on their Mum.

cantbelieveimonhere · 24/06/2015 21:11

Think it depends what age your baby is when you read it

for me, lo born a month early weight tiny. felt so scared of this tiny being, and thought of being responsible for lo's welfare. complications after section. was grateful for ten fingers/
toes. with no experience all i had was love and kisses. ABSOLUTELY BALLED!!

UterusUterusGhali · 24/06/2015 21:15

Oh yes to Peepo.
Guess how much I love you sets me off.
Sophie's Masterpiece about a spider makes me howl.
There are more. I'm crying now ffs.

Earthbound · 24/06/2015 21:18

I have yet to get through a reading of 'Love you Forever' without crying. The DCs think there's something wrong with me.

Lagoonablue · 24/06/2015 21:21

Not a book but when Jessie sings 'when she loved me'. God I bawl every time. Just feels nostalgic and sad and reminds me of the children and how they are growing up. Also TS3 when Andy plays with his toys for the final time before going off to college.

My boy is never leaving home!

weeblueberry · 24/06/2015 21:29

Oh jings it looks like I've got a long list of potential books to get me going!

I have read Peepo and didn't quite appreciate the sentiment behind it until it was pointed out to me. Maybe I'm just so bloody exhausted come bedtime that I'm missing these things.

I think the one that's come the closest to making me cry is Mama Do You Love Me? And even that it's more of a sad happy face than a cry.

I'm not completely devoid of emotion though. I'm binge watching Downton from the beginning and cried at a particularly emotional episode yesterday. Snot, tears, the works...

Oh my gosh, I'm 24 and I had Not Now Bernard on VHS. it was the ultimate treat to watch it in bed. I'd totally forgotten it until this thread.
