Teachers presents ....

...What do you all do? 2 teachers and 2 TAs here and have no idea what to get for them. I don't want to spend too much as money's a bit tight, I don't want to buy them things they won't like or end up with 28 other things the same.

I'm stressing out about getting it right and I only have till Friday to sort it.

AiBU to wish it wasn't the done thing to get presents?

As an aside I absolutely love both teachers, they have been amazing with both DC, and we will have one again for another year.

A card and bottle of wine? Mug with their name on- I would love one as mine keeps getting borrowed stolen

I made a little booklet with ds once about the things he'd enjoyed and remembered at school that year. His teacher was really pleased and it cost nothing.

I work in a school, and my favourite presents have been the homemade ones. My absolute favourites were a handmade bracelet in a card with a soppy poem, and a picture made up of lots of words in different colours- it had been created on the computer, printed off and framed.

Small box of biscuits/chocolates? A picture drawn by your child?

little that sounds lovely and that's the sort of thing that I'd keep for years (and bring out whenever things get tough and I wonder why on earth I do the job)

Is a homemade and nicely decorated cake a big no no or acceptable?

One teacher is pregnant so no wine there. How would I know what to buy the other? White, red or rose?

I'd just do a nice card, made by/written in by the child.

I just loved having home made cards. I still have some lovely letters written to me by parents.

hippo it really depends on the child. Honestly, does your child remember to wash their hands after the toilet, and cover their mouth when they cough and sneeze? If so a homemade cake will be appreciated.

However, if your child is like mine, and no matter how neat and tidy they may be when they leave the house, within half an hour they have a snot candle approaching their top lip, dribble hanging off their chin, and various stains of dubious origin adorning their top, the cake will be 'saved for later'.

The ones I love are the cards with lovely messages, mugs, pictures the kids have made.

But a sincere spoken thank you is worth just as much to me. Or wine

Really? Charming. I hope you don't work in our school. My cakes always go like, um, hot cakes at the various cake sales and I know the teachers like them because they buy them.

Homemade cards have always been my favourite. Baked goods are a no unfortunately (especially squished cupcakes presented in a sandwich bag from the students pocket!)

I've never bought pressies for teachera. A simple thank you for doing their job should suffice.

Can you really blame a teacher for not wanting 30 pieces of homemade tat? Its one thing when you love the kid making it, but 30?

No, a home-made cake is fine. Much appreciated.

But a home-made trinket, jewellery or picture - sorry, but I'm not going to clutter my house up with parental crafts, thanks.

We have an alpha mum who organises a collection, and them gets the teacher something from the whole class. I love her approach

To be honest, I don't think most parents really want presents - obviously booze or something expensive is nice, but 30 trinkets not so much. A card and a genuine thank you is better.

That should be "most teachers" - though most parents probably don't want to do presents either.
