...What do you all do? 2 teachers and 2 TAs here and have no idea what to get for them. I don't want to spend too much as money's a bit tight, I don't want to buy them things they won't like or end up with 28 other things the same.

I'm stressing out about getting it right and I only have till Friday to sort it.

AiBU to wish it wasn't the done thing to get presents?

As an aside I absolutely love both teachers, they have been amazing with both DC, and we will have one again for another year.

I've always thought it was awful that we have become conditioned to buy teachers presents. Reading these comments about some teachers binning home made ones underlines my thoughts. (Although it was nice to hear some teachers treasure a homemade card more).

It's become a bit of a show off competition between parents IMO. I only ever gave one or two presents to teachers when I was at school, and they were ones that really stood out and really helped me. I just did a work trip to a country that sells cheap, but good silver. One colleague paid £10 for beautiful silver bracelets for teachers presents. At home they'd be £20. She was sniggering, saying the other parents are going to hate me! I'm glad my SS is at college nowadays!

DD is very good at writing lovely, personal messages, so her teachers always seen to like the cards/letters that she writes for them. I always write a card as well.

Last year, dd wrote a story with her teacher in a starring role, and gave it to her at the end of the year. The teacher had really helped dd with her writing, so I hope that she liked it.

This year's gift is a bit random, but it's based on a conversation that dd had with the teacher earlier this year, so again, I hope she'll like it - dd certainly put a lot of thought into it!
