To be outraged when ladies don't wash their hands after the toilet?

It happens all the time, at work, at the gym, in restaurants, shopping centres......

Why do so many ladies use the loo then just flounce out of the toilet and give the sink a complete swerve?

Off they go back out into the world spreading their toilet germs from their hands onto unsuspecting people, it makes me so mad ð??¡

I just don't get it, what is it about soap and water that some of the population want to avoid after doing their business?? AIBU to get so angry about this?

Depends how clean the public toilets are and whether I have DC's with me.

I always have anti bac gel in my bag and use that once I leave the loos-if its just me on my own and the sink areas are clean I will wash my hands, if as in most cinemas, shopping centres etc they are covered in water splashes and I can't put my bag down anywhere without it getting soaked and manky or can't get dc's hand washed without lifting them and getting them half soaked then it is just easier to use the gel-less fuss and less mess.
I do worry about people judging though so always say loudly come on dc3 we will wash our hands with the special gel...obviously I can't do this whilst on my own without sounding mad.

Has anyone figured out how to get a small girl to sit and wee on the toilet without touching anything !I am always shouting 'no don't put your hands on the toilet put your hands on your knees '. Always have wipes too for the seat before little one sits on it-gosh public toilets are pretty grim.

FrenchJunebug · 22/06/2015 17:02

YABU I wash in hot water only. There are germs everywhere! also I don't make a habit on peeing on my hand.

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 22/06/2015 17:07

Another one who thinks gel does not get hands clean even if it kills germs. Gel + water rinse would work though if soap bothers you. Mind you if you are carrying a bottle of gel around you could easily carry a bottle of soap you can tolerate instead.

I don't touch the flusher or the door handle. I flush with my foot and use a paper towel, especially in restaurants where I'm about to handle food. I wash the tap handle as I'm washing my hands so they don't get dirty turning them off. I use paper towels rather than hand driers when possible and I do the hand shake after watching that TED talk.

I don't hover because it is extremely rare for California public toilets to not have seat covers.

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 22/06/2015 17:08

Patrician, most of the stores here have wipes for shopping trolleys.

Applejack100 · 22/06/2015 17:09

are you not in the main being a little too preachy?, i am one of those women - sometimes i wash, sometimes i don't - i had no idea it annoyed people - but i tell you something - i am very rarely ill - my immune system is rock solid - this society is obsessed with germs

Onedayinthesun · 22/06/2015 17:10

It has nothing to do with not getting wee or poo on your hands! You have had your pants down and wiped your vagina and arse with loo roll.

Or are you dirty lot not wiping at all? And have convinced yourself your hands are not dirty at all?

It is most gross to not wash your hands. I will not be convinced I'm being over the top about this.

As long as you are all right applejack , good for you Hmm

cococandyfloss · 22/06/2015 17:15

You flush with your feet?!

Applejack100 · 22/06/2015 17:16

literally yes it is good for me, try it, loosen up a little and stop telling other people how to live

2rebecca · 22/06/2015 17:19

Anyone who talks about "ladies" is BU. I wash my hands often don't bother with soap as it usually doesn't work anyway. I usually dry my hands having been taught that properly drying your hands kills more germs than the washing them thing as they usually only survive when damp.I'm usually in and out so quickly I don't notice what other people do and don't care. I happily touch everything and am rarely ill.

Candycoco · 22/06/2015 17:26

What about people who have compromised immune systems? Is it ok to spread your germs to them?

Candycoco · 22/06/2015 17:27

Also if you have ever done a food hygiene course and you put your hand under the ultraviolet lamp before and after hand washing, I think you'd wash your hands properly if you could see what germs were on them

Applejack100 · 22/06/2015 17:33

i think seeing the said germs under an ultraviolet light would have no affect on me what so ever as it is the presence of those germs that is keeping me so healthy!

Candycoco · 22/06/2015 17:35

But not everyone else applejack ...

LassUnparalleled · 22/06/2015 17:42

but a 'toilet' germ can magic its way through waded paper in an instant?

I was wondering that. I do wash hands but fairly cursorily and more because I'm worried that someone like the OP might be watching me than anything else.

MagicalHamSandwich · 22/06/2015 17:46

No, it's disgusting!

That having been said: client office I regularly visit has precisely one sink for a 7-stall lavatory. And the soap dispenser and paper towels are not next to it but on the opposite side of the mirror/makeup table thingy. There's always a queue and water/soap droplets on the floor. Interior design from hell!

I always go at my office before I have meetings at that place. Can't say I blame the colleagues who work there and simply keep anti-bac wipes at their desks, though.

specialsubject · 22/06/2015 17:48

wonder if anyone ever actually got ill from touching a toilet seat?

all this hovering, scattering paper around and so on actually spreads body wastes further. Put it where it needs to go, clean up after yourself and wash your hands.

if everyone did that the toilets would not be grim.

ohhello · 22/06/2015 17:49

Antibacterial gel doesn't work on bugs like noro though Confused

sinkatron · 22/06/2015 17:52

It takes around 30 seconds to wash your hands. There is no acceptable reason for not doing it. It's just lazy and unhygienic.

tutorproof · 22/06/2015 17:54

I don't. I hate having wet hands and the dryers are always useless.

I can't even blame a skin condition - I'm just a grubby mare.

I'm not particularly proud of it but felt I should redress the balance.

SelfconfessedSpoonyFucker · 22/06/2015 17:58

Coco, almost all public toilets here have either an automatic flush or one like this

cdn.mamamia.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/public-toilet.jpg

Very easy to use your foot.

SunnyBaudelaire · 22/06/2015 18:00

" What about people who have compromised immune systems? Is it ok to spread your germs to them? "

i really dont think that people with compromised immune systems are going to be hanging about in public loos are they now?
When my mother's immune system was compromised she was hospitalised in an isolation block fgs.

ohhello · 22/06/2015 18:00

I'm totally shocked how many people think it's ok not to wash/squirt hands after using the toilet and are actually trying to justify it. It's absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed! Confused

HoneyDragon · 22/06/2015 18:02

I only use public toilets to snort drugs after which I don't care about germs.

spillyobeans · 22/06/2015 18:04

Eurgh i see this all the time and just think why! Even if you didnt want to wash your hands for whatever reason (god knows why??) Surely if someone else was in there by the sinks etc you would be too embarrassed to just walk out
