To be outraged when ladies don't wash their hands after the toilet?

It happens all the time, at work, at the gym, in restaurants, shopping centres......

Why do so many ladies use the loo then just flounce out of the toilet and give the sink a complete swerve?

Off they go back out into the world spreading their toilet germs from their hands onto unsuspecting people, it makes me so mad ð??¡

I just don't get it, what is it about soap and water that some of the population want to avoid after doing their business?? AIBU to get so angry about this?

I'd say being intimate with your partner is hardly the same as some dirty strangers germs being spread around because they can't be arsed to wash their hands.

TattyDevine · 22/06/2015 16:06

What other people do is none of my business.

hand washing is the least of my worries. It's the dirty buggers who pee on the seat and don't wipe it off I'd like to deal with first.

That truly is disgusting.

Stubbed · 22/06/2015 16:08

I rarely wash my hands in public loos basically because I don't like wet hands and I'm not patient enough to stand under a hand drier. Also my children v sensitive to noise and would rather wet themselves than go into a loo with a hand drier. Difficult yes, but tbh I don't get ill from it and I don't care either. Think people are v precious about it.

I would wash my hands if I weed on them, touched something dirty, changed a nappy, was about to cook or eat, or had an upset tummy. Otherwise I rarely bother.

Stubbed · 22/06/2015 16:09

And I don't believe for one minute that it does me any harm. I don't get ill much.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/06/2015 16:09

Micah I blame pee splattered toilet seats on people who insist on hovering. If everyone plonked their bum down it would be a more hygienic experience all round.

Bilberry · 22/06/2015 16:15

Anti-bac only works on clean hands, it is not a substitute for washing. Even if this wasn't the case, putting it on after you have left the toilets means you spread your germs to the door hand. Great for you, you might be immune to your own germs but selfish not to think about infecting others.

(I also use a tissue to open the external door).

God how absolutely disgusting Stubbed - you have touched something dirty; your arse and the toilet flush to name just two things.
Thanks for spreading your germs around and infecting the rest of us.

Wolfiefan · 22/06/2015 16:18

Yuck! I really don't understand why people don't wash their hands. It's just disgusting. If you are allergic to the soap why not carry some you aren't allergic to?

mrsdavidbowie · 22/06/2015 16:22

I expect you're not into water sports Grin

RiverTam · 22/06/2015 16:26

I thought that anti-bac gel only works in clean hands? So if you haven't washed your hands it first make any difference?

ExConstance · 22/06/2015 16:27

see here hand sanitisers not very effective against norovirus, not effective against c. Diff or anthrax spores ( you'd be unlucky to find that in a toilet!)

I suppose wearing gloves and removing them after flushing but before doing up clothes the using a glove to open the door is the only safe way, it would look and sound a bit neurotic though.

Yanbu I hate it when people don't bother. My Sil doesn't and has passed that habit onto her kids. They try and sneak off without washing their hands!
So many germs can be passed in public toilets especially, norovirus to name one. Yuk!!

God Almighty some of the replies on this thread are shocking.
I'm not a germophobe but hand washing after using any toilet is basic hygiene! BASIC!

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/06/2015 16:34

I love washing my hands when at home. I have lovely bluebell soap on the go.

meglet · 22/06/2015 16:34

yanbu.

I'm this close to bellowing at someone in our building who doesn't wash after using the loo..

SnapesCapes · 22/06/2015 16:39

Ds2 is 4 and is having a lovely shouty-whisper phase atm. We were out in a restaurant recently and a lady came out the loos and went to open the door, he looked at me and loudly pronounced "look at that lady, she's not washing her hands, isn't that naughty Mummy?". She looked directly at me and went "Oh, fine then" and washed them, like she'd been guilted into doing it.

Tbh if you need to be guilted into personal hygiene by a batshit 4 year old, you need to have a word with yourself.

SnapesCapes · 22/06/2015 16:41

Olivia yes. I can honestly say it's an automatic reflex that I don't even have to think about.

I buy Method hand soap in the mickey mouse dispenser for the DC's bathroom to encourage them, and they're generally very consistent with it.

hippospot · 22/06/2015 16:45

Antibac gel won't stop viruses btw

Stealthpolarbear · 22/06/2015 16:45

Apparently you should only wash with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty, otherwise use hand gel. I do not get that at all.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/06/2015 16:46

I have to wash my hands when I get in from work. Literally and metaphorically washing the day off.

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 22/06/2015 16:46

Here's a cheery thought for you - the handles on shopping trolleys have germs too. A US Study found 72% had fecal matter and of the ones they studied further 50% of those had E.Coli.

Germs are everywhere and yes we probably should wash our hands more than we do, but not to the point of obsession. Anit-bac gel only kills bacteria (good as well as bad) and not viruses so its bugger all use for colds, flu, norovirus and god knows what else.

Like some other PPs I don't generally get wee or poo on my hands when I'm going to the toilet. I commute by train everyday, work in a building with 800 other people and go about my life. I'm surrounded by germs and frankly rarely get D&V.
