To think that people need to read the thread before they comment

I have been on a lot of threads recently where it is quite clear that people have read OP, but nothing else, not even the last post, before they comment.
Has it not occurred to them that things have moved on in 3 days?
It is especially annoying when OP has already apologised and admitted they were wrong- and yet they still get attacked.
It looks very silly when everyone has worked out it was a spoof, been saying so for the last 100 posts and someone pops up and answers it seriously!

I admit to not always reading every post, but I do get a good flavour and read the last page before commenting. If it is very long and has been rumbling in for days then I don't bother reading or commenting.

AIBU is the most usual place that this happens. Probably people are keen to make their point, but not keen to hear other views.

It's just like real life, then

YANBU, or at least reading all the OP's posts (which can appear in a different colour if you customise on Mumsnet New). A lot of people make themselves look right twits otherwise.

I think that people get avoided in RL if they want to talk all the time but never listen.

More and more I see RTFT - posted in irritation when it is clear that people haven't the faintest idea of where the thread has got to, but assume it is the same after 500 posts as it was in the beginning.
Once you start a thread you have no control over where it goes to- in my experience this thread is quite likely to go along lines that I can't predict.

YANBU. There was a thread recently that was a prime example of this - someone posting about a positive pregnancy test (after lots of problems conceiving), but then very shortly about losing the baby. But still posters were congratulating her, because they hadn't read the whole thread.

But who has the time to read through 100s of posts. If you are using mn on a phone it's very limited to how you can customize posts.

If you CBA to read the thread, just hide it and avoid looking like a nob when posting your snippy bitch plop when the thread has moved along.

YANBU. If people can't be bothered to read the full thread because they are too terribly busy and important but their opinion simply must be heard - then surely they could just skim through looking for OP's posts, whether highlighted or just using the handy 'find' feature on their browser?

Is it? I have had no problems on either an iPhone or a Nokia Lumia. OPs' posts are all neatly highlighted, as are mine.

Agree, BWIW. I've seen ones like that too, very sad. I don't always read every post but I do try to get the jist of what's going on, otherwise what's the point in commenting?

Not a clue. I tried the app, didn't like it, and use the browser instead. Better supported, easier to read, less buggy.

YY I think get the general jist. TBH after hundreds of posts everything has usually been said from every angle so no need to post anyway.

Use MN however you like. Just don't be an arse. Posting on a thread with hundreds of posts without reading any of them increases chances of looking an arse considerably.
