To think that people need to read the thread before they comment

I have been on a lot of threads recently where it is quite clear that people have read OP, but nothing else, not even the last post, before they comment.
Has it not occurred to them that things have moved on in 3 days?
It is especially annoying when OP has already apologised and admitted they were wrong- and yet they still get attacked.
It looks very silly when everyone has worked out it was a spoof, been saying so for the last 100 posts and someone pops up and answers it seriously!

I admit to not always reading every post, but I do get a good flavour and read the last page before commenting. If it is very long and has been rumbling in for days then I don't bother reading or commenting.

AIBU is the most usual place that this happens. Probably people are keen to make their point, but not keen to hear other views.

I read the OP (posted by someone I don't think I've come across before, rather than a 'pal') as an expression of opinion rather than a prescription, so I'm a bit baffled by Thread Police type accusations. Though I like the idea of Thread Police Police, and (even better) Self-Policing Thread Police Police.

NorahDentressangle · 23/06/2015 14:35

I'd be able to distribute 'you post like a cunt' tickets

They'd find that very useful, informative Hmm

PausingFlatly · 23/06/2015 14:39

Much like the drive-by bitch plops, then?

Sparklingbrook · 23/06/2015 15:58

I think Pagwatch was comparing to the popular website entitled something along the lines of 'You park like a cunt' with photos of said parking. She didn't make it up for this thread. Grin

YouTheCat · 23/06/2015 16:14

How come, if a load of people agree with the OP and someone comes along who doesn't, they are all now in cahoots and clearly posting all together as friends? Hmm

I know a few posters on here from other places. I know a few by reputation. It doesn't mean I'm pals with them. It certainly doesn't mean anyone is bullying anyone else. That is just utter nonsense.

And as for those saying 'I haven't time to read a whole thread', did you even bother reading the opening post properly? Because the OP didn't say anywhere that they thought everyone should read every single post, just read the first and last page to get an idea. If you can't manage that, then do you really have time to be wasting on MN?

Mehitabel6 · 23/06/2015 16:44

I have read this whole thread and I simply don't understand what you are asking CainInThePunting - you seem to be taking something very personally when I can't remember coming across you before. I can't remember naming anyone.

Yes Sparkling.
I have a friend who loves that site. Grin

Although obviously everything in my post was deadly serious so I should really have consider how useful and informative my weird Internet based tickets would be. Dammit.

YY. Time for serious cat...

To think that people need to read the thread before they comment
YouTheCat · 23/06/2015 16:58

Seriously? Grin

Whiskwarrior · 23/06/2015 17:10

I'm another one who doesn't know the OP either. I'm aware of them from other threads and I think I may even have disagreed with her on occasion!

And no, this isn't a TAAT. A few threads have been given as examples -mostly by other posters.

Serious cat is gorgeous though Grin

Mehitabel6 · 23/06/2015 17:14

I have no mates on MN!
I recognise some names if they regularly post on the sort of thread that attracts me.

Love the cat though!

I think having to go to the last page to post is a great idea. At least that would make it obvious when a thread has multiple pages.

LadyNym · 23/06/2015 19:50

YANBU. This is such a pet hate of mine (on other forums as well as MN).

I really don't have anything else to add because having RTFT I know everything I wanted to say has already been said! Wink
