For a while I've been 'losing' random things, leggings, tops, cardigans, eyeliner etc etc etc.

Thought I was being scatty and disorganised.

Gutted my room this weekend in prep for decorating and still couldn't find lost bits..... Just bumped into my cleaner who was wearing two of the items I've lost (one very distinctive) at first I thought no it can't be but as she scuttled off I thought wtf ? She looked mortified and I was speechless.

She still has a key and is due to come mon or tues. I'm so angry, I don't know why I didn't say something I think it was disbelief at first

Presume she didnt turn up for work this week ?

BitchBags · 23/06/2015 22:55

What a cheeky cow! I so hope she gets caught out by the police. The thought of someone stealing from vulnerable people makes me Angry

pudcat · 25/06/2015 20:20

how have you got on with this cleaner this week?

SilverHawk · 25/06/2015 20:41

My very elderly DPs had some bits stolen from cleaners. They were tremendously upset and shaken.
It was the first time they had let agency cleaners work as a pair. The cleaners were reported to the agency but I don't know if the agency took it further and sacked them.
Well done OP for helping to weed out the crooks Flowers

Edenviolet · 25/06/2015 21:24

I have heard nothing from the police since reporting the incident so I will be contacting them tomorrow. I had a text from the cleaner on Tuesday saying she was going to return my key that day (I'd changed locks on Monday) but she didn't return it anyway

Not sure what will come of me reporting it I just wish I could earn her other clients

Warn not earn

Any update, please, OP?

Edenviolet · 28/06/2015 09:53

Absolutely nothing.

She has not returned my key and I could not speak to anybody involved with my report, I will have to phone again tomorrow but I have a feeling I'm just chasing up something that's probably been put to the bottom of the pile Sad

I don't think much will come of it but I want to feel as if I've done something. She cleans for other people and I don't want anyone else to lose some of their things.
I'm struggling without a cleaner, dh has been having to get up at 530 am each day to tidy and clean and do some washing. I could get somebody else but just don't want to let anyone into our home now

Have you thought about using a franchise cleaning service like Merry Maids?
Expensive, but maybe an option for the short term?

ThingummyJigg · 28/06/2015 11:45

Was she effectively self employed?

I'm usually the first to say 'stay out of it' but on this occasion, I might consider informing HMRC and the benefits office, if there's a chance it mightn't only be you she's fiddling. Not that that will bring back the stolen items but I would feel better knowing that some sort of shitstorm landed on her as a result of her theft. Sometimes karma needs a helping hand.

I'm assuming, you see, that someone happy to lift the odd item of clothing, is not averse to neglecting to declare an income either.

I would be livid too, OP.

Edenviolet · 28/06/2015 12:24

From googling her I'd be inclined to think you may be right. Hasn't been the first time so I'm sure they'd be very interested ......

Dh thinks I should just leave it now but I still feel very angry that she abused a position of trust, stole from us and is probably doing the same to others

I do not know them, she had just told me that she cleans for a lot of elderly people in the area as well Sad

Check with local Age UK etc that she isn't on their recommended list.

daisychain01 · 28/06/2015 15:49

What would possess someone to steal distinctive items of clothing and then wear them when in the presence of their owner? That's baffling ...

MasterchefIwish · 28/06/2015 19:02

OP be careful please. She has shown she is a thief and has a key to your house. I would be firmly pressing this to the Police.

Gruntfuttock · 28/06/2015 19:09

daisychain01, the OP just happened to come across the cleaner in the street on the occasion she was wearing the stolen items, it wasn't in the OP's own home.

Edenviolet · 28/06/2015 22:19

I don't think she would have realised that I'd customised one of the items, I've also changed the locks so it doesn't matter that she's got a key anymore.

I will try and speak to age UK, I know somebody who volunteers for them so will speak to her. It's horrible as it made me feel so vulnerable that someone I thought was trustworthy stole from us. I know not everyone is like that but for now, even though I need the help desperately I just don't feel I can let anybody else in my house. I've spent all weekend tidying up and I'm exhausted especially as dd2 has been unwell but at least it's done

Thanks grunt would help if I RTFT, wouldn't it Grin

Hedgehog, I tend to be [maybe] over-cautious re cleaners at least until I know them well after a few months. I'd try to go for word of mouth recommendation for your next cleaner.

NiceBitOfCheese · 28/06/2015 23:21

Hedgehog, if you are who I think you are (ie from reading other posts) then you have many troubles in you life, and she is a vile low-life for taking advantage of you. Glad you have got rid.
