very wealthy ex pil moving to seven oaks gloating about free unlimited travel

My ex pils have just moved to seven oaks. They are very wealthy (partner of doctors s) and a big reason was so that they will get unlimited London travel for the rest of their lives. This amounts to almost 10k a year.

I'm pissed as they've never paid London council tax and could easily afford the travel cost and for me it's a huge expense I need to pay to work. I just wish they would stop going on bout it. Very unthoughtful and they are just out to get free stuff regardless of if they need / deserve it.

Why do they get a London Freedom pass if they live in Kent?

Moonatic · 18/06/2015 12:34

No idea whether YABU. In fact, I'm not sure I understand your point at all. Wealthy people shouldn't move to Sevenoaks, is that it? If so, YABU.

BullshitS70 · 18/06/2015 12:35

why didn't they pay council tax when they lived in London?

PotteringAlong · 18/06/2015 12:36

The costs of moving to sevenoakes would be an awful lot more than £10k so that's not the only reason they've moved.

Cherryblossomsinspring · 18/06/2015 12:38

Is it because they are over 65 or whatever the age is? If so, then of course they can use their free travel. Its currently available to them and I'm sure they have paid more than their share of tax over the years if thats what you are worried about. They aren't taking anything from you so its not healthy to feel so put out about it.

My mum can afford a train fare (she was a nurse but can afford a train if she has to pay for it) but gets great pleasure out of taking one all the way to see me. It would have cost her £80 each way. Its a small pleasure in life now that she gets it for free. I'm delighted to see her enjoy that small thing the Government has given back to her in her retirement.

Here we go again...

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 18/06/2015 12:40

isn't it only off-peak buses? Which obviously are pretty good in London, but not that great outside London.

SunnyBaudelaire · 18/06/2015 12:42

Yawn.
Sevenoaks is not in London.
At least do your research properly first, please. or go back to your bridge.

TwinkieTwinkle · 18/06/2015 12:42

Can someone explain the OP to a non-Londoner, who has absolutely no idea what this is about?

prorsum · 18/06/2015 12:49

If as Cherry says it's an age benefit, then what's the issue. If you got free travel would you like to be resented for it? Nothing is being taken from you, it's not as if every time they travel money is deducted from your bank account.

It really is a poisonous environment we live in at the moment; a certain section of the populace really resents anyone getting anything.

londonrach · 18/06/2015 12:50

I dont think they can use the underground for free if in kent. They can certainly use the buses as every other person over 65. Maybe i read it wrong. www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/travelling-around-kent/bus-travel/bus-passes/senior-citizens-bus-pass

SunnyBaudelaire · 18/06/2015 12:53

Twinkie, the OP is suggesting that these rich oldies are moving to London in order to get the 'Freedom Pass' which gives free transport in London to pensioners.
The problem is, he or she does not seem to realise that Sevenoaks is not in London so therefore the entire thread is based on a false premise.

8angle · 18/06/2015 12:53

Twinkie I'm a Londoner and I still don't understand the OP! Also if they have been GP's all their lives I think free travel once retired is fair enough, if that's what this is even about!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/06/2015 12:56

I think I know what the GF in your username stands for Hmm

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2015 12:56

Didn't Seven Oaks used in Kent?

Jeez you can't leave anything lying around these days...

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2015 12:57

Ok, who stole my 'to be' from my last post?

Hand it over Angry

SunnyBaudelaire · 18/06/2015 12:58

besides what is wrong with moving somewhere with a better deal for pensioners? I have every intention of moving back to London before I turn 60 for this very reason.

titchy · 18/06/2015 13:00

I want to know how they're BOTH partners of doctors - are they both on their second marriage having managed to screw every penny out of their first marriage to the doctor? Or what?

and everyone over 65 is entitled to free buses.

and Sevenoaks isn't in London so next time you troll raise this issue pick somewhere IN London where your facts will then be correct. Although of course this wold then mean they'd be paying London council tax so your argument wouldn't work. Oh dear....

Legionofboom · 18/06/2015 13:00

I always thought Sevenoaks was one word

londonrach · 18/06/2015 13:01

'To be'. Sorry worra i was pondering if 'not to be' so borrowed yours.....Grin

Hoppinggreen · 18/06/2015 13:02

Well they could have free travel if they want to move to West Yorkshire too!!!!
Houses cheaper than Kent I imagine.

wannaBe · 18/06/2015 13:03

this is bullshit. if you're going to --troll- make stuff up then at least do your homework as to which parts of kent would make one eligible for a freedom pass. Because there are some parts of kent which do. But I guess bromley doesn't sound as interesting as sevenoaks......

Sansarya · 18/06/2015 13:04

I want to know how they're BOTH partners of doctors - are they both on their second marriage having managed to screw every penny out of their first marriage to the doctor? Or what?

Both are partners in a GP practice?

TwinkieTwinkle · 18/06/2015 13:05

Thank you sunny! Glad someone else is as lost as me 8angle!

Koalafications · 18/06/2015 13:07
