Dd has come home from school saying a boy dropped a green bean in the dinner hall. The t.a said 'pick that up or I'll make you eat it like last time'. Boy picked it up and ate it.

Dd has no reason to make this up but she's 6 and could had mis heard /mis interpreted the situation.

Would you report it? Who to?

She may have misheard or it could be second hand information with the last bit added. I very much doubt it is true. Do you drop your daughter off at school. Yes mention it to the teacher tomorrow.

It's good you are aware that your dd may have misinterpreted. However, it is a bit concerning. Ask to speak to the class teacher and relay what your dd told you. Say you were concerned about it and wanted to know what it was about.

It's unlikely the dinner lady in question will admit to it if true but it should be a shot across the boughs.

Maybe she made him eat the ones on his plate last time and just dropped that in at the end

It sounds like she said 'or' you will eat it, but the boy picked it up and ate it anyway. I really think your dd misunderstood this.

Glitz-yes that makes sense, maybe she meant 'pick it up or you'll have to eat them all' rather than 'pick it up and eat it off the floor like last time'.

Dd was adamant that the child was made to eat it though.

"Pick that off the floor, and eat them like I told you last time" - very easily misinterpreted by a sixyear old

Why did he eat the green bean if the TA hadn't asked him to?

I'd actually raise this. Adults are not above being bullies.... qualify it with exactly what you've said here. It'll do the ta nor the boy any harm to simply make the teacher aware if nothings amiss.

For those saying you'd report it,how would you do it? Just a quiet word with the teacher at the end of school with dd present to explain what happened?xx

Formidable-I'm new to the whole school system,I'm genuinely asking for advice on how best to deal with this situation. If you want to make snarky comments go and make them somewhere else.

I don't think you can report something that has absolutely no effect on your child without sounding ridiculous TBH.

Only-if your child had been made to eat food that had been dropped on the floor would you want that person pulled up for it? Genuine question. We're assuming here that dd is giving a correct account of events.

If my child was bothered by whatever might or might not have happened, I'd report it. I wouldn't expect someone else to report it based on what their DC might have overheard.

If every parent raised everything their 4,5,6,7 year old told them they saw or thought they saw with the school, I'd imagine there would be little time for superfluous stuff like learning.

I'd just mention quietly to your child's teacher that while its possible she has the wrong end of the stick and there is an innocent explanation, dd told you the following... Because if it is true, the little boy very possibly needs some support with the situation. I'm speaking from a position of having brushed something similar off from my own 4yo, and bitterly regretting it folks, so please - no hatchet wielding.
