... to ask about your experience of "Shewees" or other such weeing devices?

I am off to do some hill walking soon. I often need to wee, and though I love an al fresco wee this can be difficult when in mixed company and, in the area I go to, where there are very few trees!

I wondered if a Shewee or Whizz would help. Has anyone tried one?
I can't help feeling it would be messy, and only marginally more discreet than the usual 'squat'.

If you did find it OK, would you also think it would be suitable for young DDs?

Thanks!

My Sister bought one. I know she practised in the shower (as it suggests) but I have no idea whether or not ahe actually uses it.

avocadotoast · 17/06/2015 00:21

I've used the disposable Shewees at festivals etc. in fact at one festival my then-housemate brought a few home to keep in the bathroom for guests to try as a novelty...

They are very good. They take a bit of practice though - and depending on your clothes it can be hard to get the positioning right without derobing your bottom half. I'd recommend giving them a go though!

swiggityswoogity · 17/06/2015 04:14

spend a bit more money and get the reusable ones not cardboard. don't clamp it tight against you, it needs air to get in or it backs up and overflows.

Get a long spout and practise. with a little practise you won't need to remove any clothes, just unzip

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 17/06/2015 06:39

I tried a shewee (with extension) in the shower and pee went everywhere. I tried several times but eventually gave up.

If anyone has a good technique, please let me know!

Don't forget to tip it forward when removing the shewee, otherwise the content spills backwards and makes you look like you've pee'd yourself took ages to dry Blush

GrinAndTonic · 17/06/2015 07:07

I have one and have used it for years. It's great for travelling and road trips.
Practicing in the shower is a good idea.

Swannykazoo · 17/06/2015 07:11

Great name Grin!
Definitely try different reusable ones. I found a Shewee wasn't great but a Whizzaway (I think) was a slightly different shape so worked well with no leaks. Took me a while to get the hang of being able to relax to wee standing up with clothes on though!

RackofPeas · 17/06/2015 07:23

I tried using a shewee as DH and I did a bit of wild camping before the dcs. I just could mot manage to go properly when standing up!

HellBoundNothingFound · 17/06/2015 07:31

I use mine at festivals (pissing in a bottle like a man is part of the fun), practice practice and practice. The psychological barrier is one to hurdle but once smashed, you can do it.

Also as a pp said, to push it too hard to the area as you will leak. Make sure you sit to have a wee after a few shewees to ensure you've emptied your bladder fully!

Marilynz · 17/06/2015 07:34

I use shewee when camping. They're ok but you end up with pee down your leg half the time!

Fluffyears · 17/06/2015 08:44

My friend used one at a festival and bored into a bottle in our tent. I couldn't 'go' despite being desperate my body obviously couldn't compute the situation.

MiddleAgedandConfused · 17/06/2015 08:47

Have tried the Shewee - it takes lots of practice to be able to use it without the wee going everywhere. It is a nightmare when it goes wrong as you get wee all over your trousers. I gave up.

SlaggyIsland · 17/06/2015 08:49

Sheewee is brilliant! I go hillwalking a lot and it's a godsend when there's not a lot of cover.
Technique - what works for me is getting the back part really far back, right to my bottom. Don't clamp or try to create a seal. Hold it and tilt your pelvis so that it's facing as downwards as possible, remember you're using gravity.
I battled at first but with a bit of practice one gets the knack.
I have the Sheewee extreme, it's got a pipe extension.

morelikeguidelines · 17/06/2015 08:49

Can you put it inside your trousers so as to wee outside? Is that the point? Or do you have to pull then down anyway?

SlaggyIsland · 17/06/2015 08:50

Yes you can. You can open your zip then slip the sheewee under your knickers. So you can pee whilst being completely covered up.

SunshineAndShadows · 17/06/2015 08:51

I've tried sheewees, found it very easy, no spillage just need to get your head around peeing standing

SlaggyIsland · 17/06/2015 08:56

Luckily I've had plenty of practice of standing and weeing by frequently pissing in the shower.

MrsTrentReznor · 17/06/2015 09:00

I bought one after a terrible squatting accident on a Cornish moor whilst checking out Men an Tol... Turns out the moors are nice and soft on a bare bum... Blush
I've been practicing, but not mastered it yet.
I bought a shewee in bright pink with a carry case and an extension tube. I haven't had a public debut yet. More practice needed. Soggy jeans. Not an attractive look. Grin
It grosses out my DP, but I'm fed up of getting my bum out in the open to pee in bushes when out walking.

AdventureBe · 17/06/2015 09:05

If you have a re-usable one, what do you do with it once it's wet?

With practise squatting is no harder IMO and the mixed company is for sending down the path to distract anyone who appears out of no-where!

Sheitgeist · 17/06/2015 09:14

Ah, fantastic, thanks for all the replies! I may give it a go, but not sure which particular peeing device would be best: the Shewee looks really narrow, but I read that the Whizz is too squashy. I guess it depends on one's own particular anatomy!

I guess it may be nice, having a nice, bonding, stand up wee alongside DH out in the wilds... or writing my name in the snow. Though the wetness afterwards still bothers me.

Little DDs though... can anyone advise for them?

AdventureBe it's made of that plastic that repels liquids, so a good shake is all you need until you get to soap and water.

I'm rubbish at squatting Sad I always end up in an undignified heap. Sometimes with piss filled shoes. Sad

slippermaiden · 17/06/2015 09:28

I tried once at Glastonbury and couldn't perform! I think I need to squat to wee and this was all standing up like in a urinal! Give mea bush to tinkle behind any day!

Hygellig · 17/06/2015 09:34

I've tried a shewee but find it very difficult to wee standing up. It feels like deliberately trying to wet yourself. But I think if I practised I could get the hang of it.

Mermaidhair · 17/06/2015 10:22

I love peeing in nature. I feel so free and airyGrin I like the idea of squatting ( you have to be careful with too much pressure though, it can spray back at you) Oh and gently dabbing dry with a leaf.
